J.S. Bach „Brandenburg concertos“ BWV 1046-51
The Freiburger Barockorchester (FBO) looks back on an unprecedented history of success. From its student beginnings in 1987, within a few years an internationally sought-after orchestra emerged, becoming a regular guest in the most important concert halls and opera houses. The FBO’s very special sound (on period instruments) is frequently praised, as is the ensemble’s virtuosity and the variety of its repertoire: from early Baroque to the present. The ensemble takes this sound from Freiburg to its European neighbours, to North and South America, to Asia and even to Australia and New Zealand. Since May 2012, the “Freiburgers”, together with their colleagues of the ensemble recherche, have an internationally unique home: the Ensemble House, a musical workshop and incubator for new ideas in historical and contemporary music.
The Freiburg BaroqueConsort (FBC) specialises in the less frequently played music of the seventeenth and eighteenth century. The aim of this formation, consisting of members of the Freiburger Barock Orchester, has always been to present unusual programmes that rediscover pieces, which seldom, if ever, appear in current concert programmes, or to present supposedly well-known works in a new light, played from an unusual perspective. Thus the ensemble’s horizon extends from English (“A Masque of Beauty“) to north German music (“AbendtMusick“, “Bach and friends“), from compositions of the Habsburg period (“Habsburger Serenade“) and early Italian Baroque music to combinations of Baroque and contemporary music.

Violinist Petra Müllejans is a versatile musician who loves – and plays with passion – almost every type of music. She prefers to do this in a familiar environment with personally close musical collaborators. She has been a member and Partner of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra (FBO) for many years and leads it as Concert Master, regularly performing as a soloist. She is also among the permanent members of the Freiburg BarockConsort, the FBO’s chamber music formation which has specialised in the music of the 17th and early 18th century that features soloists.
Gottfried von der Goltz has established himself in the international music scene as a Baroque violinist and as one of the Artistic Directors of the Freiburger Barockorchester (FBO). As common in the 18th century, he leads the FBO from the position of the concertmaster.

Petra Müllejans’ approach to Baroque and classical music is characterised by the constant search for a narrative method of making music – which she has best achieved in her beloved work in the orchestra, her collaboration with Hille Perl and Lee Santana in The Age of Passions ensemble, and with her Hot and Cool klezmer group. She has become quieter and more relaxed during the course of her musical journey through life

(about which she is very pleased). She is a passionate teacher whose work with her students is close to her heart. Petra Müllejans is Professor of Baroque Violin at the Frankfurt University of Music and the Performing Arts and also teaches at Lucerne University.
The most recent recording oft he FBC was released in May 2012. It features a selection of instrumental music by Johann Heinrich Schmelzer (1620-1680) and has been enthusiastically received by the international critique: “Essential to these latter-day resurrections are compelling performances, and the Freiburg players, members of the crack Freiburger Barockorchester, provide them in spades.“ (The New York Times, 17 May 2012 )
Under the artistic directorship of its two concertmasters Gottfried von der Goltz and Petra Müllejans, and under the baton of selected conductors, the FBO presents itself with about one hundred performances per year in a variety of formations from chamber to opera orchestra: a self-administrated ensemble with its own subscription concerts at Freiburg’s Concert Hall, Stuttgart’s Liederhalle, and Berlin’s Philharmonie and with tours all over the world.

The FBO collaborates with important artists such as René Jacobs, Andreas Staier, Isabel Faust, Kristian Bezuidenhout, Christian Gerhaher, and Pablo Heras-Casado. It has a close alliance with the label harmonia mundi France, a successful musical partnership reflected in numerous CD productions and the receipt of prominent awards, such as the recent Germany’s ECHO Classical Music Award 2014 and Edison Classical Music Award 2013, the ECHO Classical Music Awards 2012 & 2013, Gramophone Award 2012, Edison Classical Music Award 2012, Gramophone Award 2011, Germany’s ECHO Classical Music Award 2011 and the German Record Critics’ Annual Award 2009.
The Freiburg BaroqueConsort is also dedicated to performing vocal music, be it a concert performance of Johann Sebastian Bach’s St. John’s Passion with a small cast of singers and instrumentalists or a CD recording of madrigals by Giovanni Valentini (in collaboration with the Orlando di Lasso Ensemble).
His repertoire ranges from early Baroque to contemporary music, illustrated by a broad discography, which shows him as a tremendously versatile and flexible musician: as soloist and as orchestra director. Most notably, Gottfried von der Goltz has gained a reputation as a specialist in the music of the long-forgotten Dresden Baroque and of the four Bach sons. In addition to his engagement with the FBO Gottfried von der Goltz regularly performs as guest director and soloist with the Berliner Barocksolisten, the Württembergisches Kammerorchester Heilbronn, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra (hr-Sinfonieorchester), the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra and others. For a couple of years he

has worked closely together with the Norsk Barokkorchester serving as their Artistic Director. Gottfried von der Goltz is also dedicated to performing chamber music in various formations. As Professor for Baroque and modern violin he is a popular teacher at the College of Music in Freiburg.
