UNION Pacific Railroad has revealed its annual Building America Report, which encompasses the railroad's unwavering progress towards its safety, sustainability, corporate accountability, and community engagement goals. As part of its resolute commitment to corporate transparency, the report meticulously tracks the headway made to address Union Pacific stakeholders' most crucial issues, as identified in its 2021 materiality assessment.

"This report exemplifies our relentless pursuit of the goals outlined in our Building a Sustainable Future 2030 strategy and upholds our unwavering dedication to transparent communication," declared Chairman, President, and CEO Lance Fritz. "By placing our stakeholders at the very core of our decision-making process, we can unearth the optimal solutions, empower our customers to accomplish their objectives, and fortify the bonds with the communities where our employees reside and operate."

Through its comprehensive approach to safe train operations, facilitated by cutting-edge technology, 1.5 million hours of top-notch training for its workforce and advanced maintenance methodologies, Union Pacific has elevated key safety metrics in 2022. Notably, derailments on Union Pacific decreased by a remarkable 21% compared to 2019.

In tandem with its safety endeavours, Union Pacific invested a staggering $1.9 billion in its infrastructure to ensure consistent and reliable service. In 2022 alone, the company installed almost four million new rail ties and undertook the replacement, resurfacing, or expansion of over 20,000 track miles, affirming its unwavering commitment to constructing a safer and more efficient railroad.

As technology assumes an increasingly pivotal role in Union Pacific's operations, the preservation of its systems and data security has gained paramount importance. Implementing a trailblazing qualitative cybersecurity risk management process, the railroad has safeguarded its operations against potential cyber threats or attacks, resulting in no significant disruptions to date.

The report further emphasises how Union Pacific's substantial investment of $24.1 million in the community has reached an impressive 2,500 non-profit organisations in 2022. These contributions have facilitated the development and improvement of community spaces, workforce training, safety enhancement, and environmental advancement.
