“Imagination is a formation of new ideas that are not present to the senses

(Lindberg, C. A. And Steneson, A. 2010)

This project is a collaboration between myself and menswear student Luke Shaw. By joining our faculties we have created a fantasy world built on imagination to inspire us to design a tans-seasonal, mixed mens- and womenswear collection for the year 2012.

-The idea of creating something non-existent. -The odd and surreal feel. -The invented characters and their bizarre behaviour and habits.

A primary source for silhouette ideas has comefrom observing generic people with interesting habits, that then let on to a more specified subject, cruise ship travellers. We are aiming for a traditional cruise look with some comical and odd elements. The concept is built on imagination. Cruise ship characters travel to a place where, when they step of the ship, it is their curiosity that drives them to explore the environment. Their knowledge of the islands will then start growing on them, as a part of their identity. The intension is to show, with embroidery, the mark that the cruise journey has made on the characters.

“Like a costume or other identity, m becomes in front. It is like a mask –

my work reveals something that is behind the face that suddenly – not a mask that you put on, but something that groves out of you (Maurizio Anzeri)

...The idea o

of using two different colour pallets to lay emphasis on the embroidery.

Dye test, to achieve the right green and blue shades on 100% wool and 20/80 % wool/cotton mixed shirting. Colours used: Olive Green and Madonna blue.

A muted colour pallet for the ground colour and another flamboyant one for the embroidery.

Use layers for 3D effect and also as a styling element, multiple layers of garments within an outfit.

The idea of making an unusual pattern for by using a chemical grid as a starting point and make it as it has been shaken up by an earthquake. Do the same with a simple check as well. Idea developed with Luke Shaw.

Flamboyant colours used to achieve mineral colours and moss stitch used to mimic the French knot effect.

Use different techniques together to get a texture changing textile looking like frost.
