Spazi dell’emozione dove le strategie di visual merchandising e le politiche di marketing colpiscono dritte al cuore e alla mente il potenziale acquirente. Non si tratta soltanto di rendere ben visibile la merce e illuminare a sufficienza le superfici commerciali, bensì creare atmosfere e stati d’animo, agire sulle pulsioni d’acquisto e mettere nella giusta luce la presenza individuale dell’impresa commerciale. In questo negozio, dedicato ai più piccoli nel centralissimo Corso Martiri della Libertà di Brescia, interior design e tecniche di Visual si legano ad un accurato studio illuminotecnico che si fonda proprio su questi principi. L’ atmosfera rilassante dominata da toni caldi, ottenuti miscelando sorgenti mastercolour a ioduri metallici con HIT (CDM-TC), si fonde con i colori pastello degli arredi. La merce esposta, con i suoi colori brillanti, si pone così subito in evidenza attraendo su di sé lo sguardo del potenziale cliente. I complementi d’arredo, le isole espositive e la zona cassa, sono evidenziate con un livello di illuminamento maggiore e con proiettori ad alogeni con lampade AR111 con funzione di luce chiave. La luce, così concepita aumenta la sensazione di dinamismo e quindi di novità all’interno dello spazio, oltre che rappresentare una valida guida alla shopping experience. “Theater OF DREAMS” is the definition that would mostly suit today’s modern shop. An emotion-filled space where visual merchandising strategies and marketing policies aim at the very hearts and minds of potential customers. It is not simply a matter of adequately displaying goods and providing sufficient lighting to the shop’s surfaces, but of creating the right atmospheres and moods, enticing customers to make purchase decisions and casting the shop’s unique personality in the most suitable light. In this shop, catering to the youngest customers in Brescia’s High Street, Corso Martiri della Libertà, interior and visual design techniques combine with an accurate lighting design study based exactly on these principles. The relaxing ambiance features a predominance of warm hues, obtained by mixing mastercolour metal halide lamps with HIT (CDM-TC), pleasantly merging with the pastel colours of furnishings. The bright, cheerful colours of the goods displayed are therefore immediately highlighted and attract the potential customer’s attention. The furnishing accessories, the display islands and the checkout area are brought to their best advantage with a higher level of luminousness and with halogen AR111 lamp projectors with key-lighting functions. The lighting design enhances the sensation of dynamism and excitement inside the space, as well as supplying an invaluable guide supporting the shopping experience. Il prestigioso complesso museale delle Gallerie dell’Accademia di Venezia si appresta a ritornare da protagonista sulla scena dei grandi musei internazionali. L’importante progetto di restauro, curato dall’ architetto Tobia Scarpa e fortemente voluto dall’architetto Renata Codello sopraintendente ai Beni Culturali di Venezia, non si occupa solo del recupero e del riassetto delle sale esistenti, ma si estende ai locali prima occupati dalla scuola dell’Accademia di Belle Arti e alla chiesa della Carità, che insieme aggiungono al complesso 5000mq di superficie espositiva, praticamente il doppio rispetto alla precedente configurazione.

The prestigious museum complex of the Accademia Galleries in Venice is about to take its rightful place as a key player among the greatest international museums. The substantial restoration project, curated by architects Tobia Scarpa and desired by the superintendent of Cultural Heritage of Venice Renata Codello, does not only deal with renovating and restoring existing rooms, but extends to the rooms previously occupied by the Academy of Fine Arts and the Church of Charity, adding a further 5,000 square metres of exhibition surface to the complex, and practically doubling the previous layout.

Un primo esempio di quella che sarà la futura illuminazione del museo, così come pensata dall’architetto Tobia Scarpa, è possibile osservarla nella sala XIII al piano primo del Museo. Qui gli apparechi Ray, disegnati dallo stesso architetto Scarpa appositamente per mettere in risalto le opere d’arte, si integrano perfettamente con il contesto culturale circostante. Ciò che si percepisce è la luce che irradia le opere in modo naturale senza generare riflessioni e senza abbagliare il visitatore, questo anche frutto della professionalità illuminotecnica del Geom. Riccardo Campion, che ne ha curato illuminamenti e puntamenti. Il sistema, frutto di numerose sperimentazioni e già testato con successo nelle prestigiose esposizioni temporanee su Carlo Crivelli, Giorgione, Tiepolo, e nel complesso di Palazzo della Ragione a Verona, sarà installato in tutte le sale. Per alcune di queste applicazioni, la necessità di rispetto e conservazione della struttura originale, ha costretto i progettisti allo studio di soluzioni espositive dedicate, complicando il lavoro degli illuminotecnici. Ciononostante, la grande flessibilità del sistema Ray, ha permesso di applicarlo anche in queste situazioni, evitando il ricorso ad altre soluzioni e preservando l’uniformità funzionale ed estetica delle sale.

A first example of what the future museum lighting installation will be like, as designed by architect Tobia Scarpa, can be appreciated in room XIII at the first floor of the museum. Here the Ray luminaires, also designed specifically by architect Tobia Scarpa to light works of art, perfectly blend with the cultural context surrounding. What one perceives is the light being cast onto the masterpieces in a remarkably natural way, without generating any reflexes or glare and without blinding the visitor, also thanks to the illuminating engineering professionalism of Mr. Riccardo Campion who took care about the illuminance and light beams. The system – rolled out after extensive experimentation and testing – has already been successfully tested in the prestigious temporary Crivelli, Giorgione and Tiepolo exhibitions as well as in the Palazzo della Ragione complex in Verona, and it will be installed in all the rooms. For some of these applications, the need to respect and preserve the original structure has forced the designers to come up with dedicated displaying solutions, making the light designers’ job even more complicated and demanding. Despite that, the great flexibility of the Ray system has allowed to apply it successfully also in these challenging situations, with no need to use other solutions and fully preserving the functional and aesthetic homogeneity of the exhibition rooms.

All’ingresso nord della città di Caltagirone, in una zona di margine del centro storico vicino ad una cava d’argilla che, per secoli, ha fornito le antiche fabbriche dei ceramisti locali, si trova l’ex area industriale della “Conadomini” che dal 1984, anno di chiusura degli stabilimenti, giaceva in stato di completo abbandono. Tra gli edifici del complesso, l’importante architettura industriale della fornace. Si tratta di un primo progetto stralcio, curato dall’architetto Francesco Sagone, che punta a rilanciare e collocare Caltagirone all’interno dei circuiti turistici siciliani attraverso un’operazione di valorizzazione del proprio patrimonio culturale, sopratutto nell’arte dell’antica ceramica e della fabbricazione dei laterizi. L’importante opera di restauro di questa architettura industriale, di tipo Hoffmann, propone il mantenimento e il recupero degli elementi più importanti dell’impianto nel rispetto degli elementi costitutivi e formali che la caratterizzano. Le innovazioni apportate riguardano esclusivamente l’introduzione di alcuni necessari presidi tecnologici e impiantistici. Le lunghe gallerie (mt. 75,00 ), possono ospitare alcune mostre temporanee o raccontare ai visitatori i momenti più significativi della straordinaria storia che lega il territorio alla produzione ceramica dall’epoca araba fino ai giorni nostri. L’uso degli stessi materiali ha permesso di mantenere immutata l’immagine della fornace sia all’esterno che all’interno dove rimangono ben visibili i segni del calore e del tempo. La nuova architettura si sviluppa in senso longitudinale, assecondando la direzione della fornace. Un corpo edilizio alto mt.16, a forma di parallelepipedo a base quadrata di mt.14x14, è la prima forma architettonica percepibile, pensata come una sorta di “cerniera” tra la fornace e il resto del nuovo edificio. Le gallerie della fornace, di sera, si illuminano grazie ai proiettori posti dentro i fori della volta, che un tempo servivano per introdurre il combustibile, creando una atmosfera particolarmente suggestiva. La presenza della grande vetrata del corpo centrale annulla la cesura fra esterno oltre a rappresentare una magnifica sorgente di luce naturale. Lo spazio espositivo è modellato intorno ad un’area centrale, lungo la quale sono stati dislocati tutti i servizi per il museo. Il recupero e riuso dell’edificio industriale, in modo particolare della fornace Hoffmann, assieme alla realizzazione di nuovi edifici rappresenta un importante momento di rinnovamento urbano, con chiare ricadute anche culturali; nella volontà dell’Amministrazione Comunale esso segnerà, infatti, l’avvio di un processo di riqualificazione diffusa dell’intera struttura urbana, e quindi con conseguenze positive per la valorizzazione del patrimonio storico.

At the north gate of the city of Caltagirone, in an area on the edge of the old town near a clay quarry which supplied for centuries the ancient workshops of local potters, lies the “Conadomini”, a former industrial estate which had been in utter neglect since1984, the year the production facility was closed. The kiln’s remarkable industrial architecture stands out among the buildings of the complex. It is a first excerpt project attended by the architect Francesco Sagone, in order to relaunch caltagirone and include this town in the sicilian turistic itineraries, through an operation to promote its cultural heritage, especially in the artistic panorama of crafts and trades. The important restoration work of this example of industrial, Hoffmann-style architecture, maintains and recovers the most important elements of the physical industrial layout at the same time as respecting the formal elements which characterize it. The innovations carried out exclusively involve introducing some necessary technological facilities and installations. The long galleries (75 metres) can house some temporary exhibitions or inform visitors about the most significant moments of the town’s extraordinary history, highlighting the bonds with the regional ceramics production from the Arab age until today. The use of the same materials has allowed to leave the image of the kiln unchanged both outside and inside, with the marks of fire and time still clearly visible. The new building has a longitudinal layout, following the kiln’s orientation. A 16-metre-high body, a 14x14-metre, square-based parallelepiped is the first perceivable architectural shape, designed as a sort of “hinge” between the kiln and the rest of the new building. In the evening the kiln galleries are lit by projectors located inside the vault’s openings, which were once used to introduce the fuel, creating a particularly evocative atmosphere. The large and beautiful glass window in the central body of the building annuls the caesura with the exterior as well as being a magnificent source of natural light. The exhibition space is organised around a central area, around which all the museum services have been arranged. The restoration and re-use of the industrial building, in particular the Hoffmann-style kiln, together with the erection of new buildings represent an important step towards urban renewal, with clear implications also from a cultural point of view; in the Local Council’s intentions it will mark, in fact, the start of a process of widespread development of the whole urban structure, consequently providing opportunities for better exploiting the full potential of the region’s historical heritage.

Una nota di personalità che è rappresentata anche in UDG attraverso l’inserimento di colori decisi come il verde acido e il magenta che, grazie alla luce, diffondono nell’ambiente piacevoli riflessi colorati.

A range of wall, ceiling and pendant fixtures for LED, halogen and metal halide light sources. Available in two different sizes, they are produced in cold-formed steel pipe. The internal steel structure features a clutch-guide system for placing the lamp along the vertical axis and cardan movement in die-cast aluminium with optional light beam adjustment by +/-50°. Six different finishes are available: natural steel, natural steel-white, natural steel-lime green, natural steelmagenta, white, OLD chrome. Equipped with LED lamps (from 4 to 8 power LED), metal halide HIPAR 111 and CDM TM lamps, halogen QR111, QR-CB 51 and PAR16 lamps. UDG features an underground style - its no-fuss, stark finishes and the use of natural steel pipes bring to mind the inner city and industrial estates of large metropolises where the hues of steel engage in dynamic dialogue with the bright colours of graffiti. A further mark of UDG’s personality is represented by opting for bright colours such as lime green and magenta which, carried by light, diffuse in the environment pleasantly tinted reflexes.

Sistema ad incasso strutturato per la combinazione di illuminazione generale e d’accento. Realizzato in alluminio estruso, si compone di moduli per lampade fluorescenti T5 e piastre attrezzate per ospitare apparecchi da incasso o proiettori della gamma Mizar. I moduli fluorescenti sono costruiti con ottiche wallwasher, dark, bassa luminanza e diffusa per una illuminazione generale dell’ambiente o del piano di lavoro. Quelli dedicati alla luce d’accento, sono predisposti per l’inserimento di spot da incasso, microproiettori o proiettori a tensione di rete. Recessed installation system designed for combining general and accent lighting. Made in extruded aluminium, it consists of T5 fluorescent lamp modules and pre-arranged plates for housing recessed fixtures or projectors in the Mizar product range. The fluorescent modules are produced with wallwasher, dark, low luminance and diffuse optics for general room lighting or for lighting work surfaces. The ones providing accent lighting are pre-set for inserting recessed spotlights, micro-projectors or mains voltage projectors. Light sources can be managed with DALI protocol, thanks to an hexapolar structured cable equipped with fast connectors. The optimal visual comfort and the variety of installation possibility, make Thonca particularly suitable for addressing the light design needs of a variety of environments such as offices, public spaces, meeting rooms, entertainment areas and multi-functional areas, even with very low false ceilings.

THE ORIGIN MIZAR, LIGHT IN THE SKY

Mizar è una stella nella costellazione dell’Orsa Maggiore ben visibile ad occhio nudo. Il nome viene dall’arabo Mi’Zar, che significa cintura. All’indagine astronomica Mizar si rivela un sistema stellare composto da un totale di sei stelle. Le persone di buona vista possono notare una debole stella compagna, appena ad est, chiamata Alcor. Le due sono a volte chiamate rispettivamente il Cavallo e il Cavaliere e l’abilità nel vederle entrambe è un test tradizionale della vista nei paesi arabi, usato in antichità quale prova per le aspiranti guardie dell’imperatore. La distanza reale tra le due stelle è superiore ad un quarto di anno luce. Entrambe sono circa 35 volte più luminose del sole, e orbitano l’una rispetto all’altra in soli 20 giorni a circa 78 anni luce di distanza dalla terra. Mizar fu la prima binaria visuale ad essere scoperta, per merito di Giovanni Battista Riccioli nel 1650. Mizar, a star in the Great Bear constellation, is easy to see with the naked eye. Its name is taken from the Arabic “Mi’Zar”, whichmeans “belt”. Upon closer examination, Mizar proves to be a star system composed of six stars. A person with good vision can make out a weak companion star called “Alcor” slightly to the east. These two stars, in turn, are called “The Horse” and “The Horseman”, respectively. And the ability to see them is a traditional vision examination in Arab countries that was used in antiquity as a test for aspiring imperial guards. The true distance between the two stars is more than a fourth of a light year. Located around 78 light years from the Earth, they are both 35 times brighter than the Sun, and they orbit around each other in only 20 days. Mizar, the first visible binary star to be discovered, thanks to the efforts of Giovanni Battista Riccioli in 1650.

A range of interior recessed installation fixtures with powerful LED lamps. Fitted with last generation LEDs, Runner allow to solve the challenges posed by those projects where general lighting must be coupled to accent lighting such as in the retail or hotel sectors. Produced in aluminium with decorative details in plastic material, they are available with 1, 3, 6 and12 LEDs in the fixed version and with 1, 3, 5, 7 and 12 LEDs in the adjustable version (+/-15°). Available optics include (spotlight, medium, flood) in the warm and neutral white versions. 12/24V and 350/500 mA power supply for micro version only. Dimming with MICRODIM system. White, aluminium with polished chrome insets and black with polished chrome insets finishes.

QSO led DESIGN MIZAR

Dopo il recente restyling che l’ha vista leggermente ridisegnata nelle forme e proposta in nuove finiture di tendenza, QSO apre le porte al LED di potenza. L’inserimento della nuova tecnologia Fortimo ® di Philips per illuminazione generale, consente di ottenere prestazioni elevate abbattendo drasticamente i consumi. Invece in abbinamento sorgenti LED CREE (30 LED di potenza), QSO propone anche una nuovissima ottica a microprismi in grado di disegnare sulla sua superficie suggestivi effetti luminosi che cambiano in base all’angolazione dalla quale si osserva il prodotto. Un nuovo passo in avanti per Mizar verso una proposta completa di prodotti completamente green.

After the recent restyling operation which has lightly re-designed its form and included new trendy finishes, QSO opens its doors to power LEDs. Deploying the new Fortimo ® technology by Philips for general lighting allows high-performance yield at the same time as drastically reducing consumption. However, in combination with CREE LED lamps (30 power LED), QSO also features brand-new microprism optics that create evocative light effects on its surface, which change based on the observer’s vantage point. A new step forward for Mizar towards a comprehensive range of wholly green products.

KY downlight DESIGN PAOLO DE LUCCHI

La gamma dei proiettori Ky disegnati da Paolo De Lucchi, si completa oggi con la nuova linea di proiettori da incasso orientabili. Realizzati in pressofusione di alluminio, sono dotati di un meccanismo a compasso che permette di estrarli e realizzare il puntamento con una rotazione di 90° rispetto al piano verticale. La rotazione sul piano orizzontale è invece di 355°. Il prodotto riproporrà le tipologie di sorgenti luminose già utilizzate per la linea di proiettori 220V: LED, alogene e ioduri metallici.

The range of Ky projectors designed by Paolo De Lucchi is complemented today with the new line of adjustable recessed installation projectors. Made in die-cast aluminium, they are fitted with a compass mechanism which allows to extract them and carry out light aiming with 90° rotation on the vertical plane. Horizontal plane rotation is 355°. The product will feature the light source types previously available for the 220V projector range: LED, halogen and metal halide lamps.

VIGER led DESIGN PAOLO TORCOLACCI

Viger è l’ultimo nato tra i sistemi su cavo a tensione di rete. Un programma completo per offrire soluzioni illuminotecniche per tutti quegli ambienti dove sia richiesto un sistema flessibile e poco invasivo. Ai tre modelli e alle numerose sorgenti già disponibili a catalogo per i proiettori, si aggiunge oggi un nuovo modello Spot con nuova tecnologia a 8 LED monocromatici di potenza. Diverse ottiche con apertura Spot, medium, flood, e due diverse temperature di colore (neutral white e warm white) permettono al lighting designer di studiare soluzioni complete in sostituzione alle tradizionali sorgenti luminose alogene, ioduri metallici o fluorescenza.

Viger is the newest-born among our mains voltage cable systems. It’s a comprehensive program that offers light design solutions for all those settings which require a flexible, non-invasive system. The three models and the great variety of light sources for projectors already available in the catalogue, are now complemented by a new model of Spotlight with new monochrome power 8-LED technology. A variety of optics with Spot, medium, flood opening, and two different colour temperatures (neutral white and warm white) enable the lighting designer to devise comprehensive solutions to replace traditional halogen, metal halide or fluorescence light sources.

La tradizione dei sistemi su cavo 12V Mizar si rinnova con una nuova collezione di prodotti a LED destinata ad illuminare spazi espositivi, negozi, e moderni ambiti residenziali. Due nuovi modelli dal design morbido ed avvolgente che combinano illuminazione d’accento a quella diffusa. Equipaggiati con led monocromatici di potenza (da 3 a 15 LED) sono realizzati in pressofusione di alluminio con corpo dissipatore in alluminio tornito. In Sbiego, il corpo può essere orientato di +/- 15° sull’asse orizzontale e 355° su quello verticale.

Mizar’s tradition of 12V cable systems is renewed with a new collection of LED products aimed at lighting exhibition spaces, shops and modern residential settings. Two new models feature a soft and enveloping design which combines accent and diffuse lighting. Fitted with power monochrome LEDs (from 3 to 15 LED), they are produced in die-cast aluminium with turned aluminium shunting body. In Sbiego, the body can be adjusted by +/- 15° on the horizontal axis and by 355° on the vertical one.

Coniugare l’illuminazione funzionale dello spazio, in una mostra che presenta 12 videoinstallazioni di giovani artisti italiani, non è così semplice come si potrebbe immaginare, soprattutto se il contenitore che le ospita è un edificio delle dimensioni dell’Hangar Bicocca. Questo edificio, appartenuto al gruppo Ansaldo, era dedicato alla produzione di bobine per i motori elettrici dei treni. Riconvertire spazi industriali in centri d’arte contemporanea, è cosa conosciuta a livello internazionale (Baltic Centre Gateshead, Tate modern di Londra, Dia Beacon di New York). La chiave del successo, sta nella capacità di risignificare i luoghi e il territorio a cui questi edifici sono collegati, spesso borghi di periferia o aree degradate o depresse. Oggi di proprietà di Pirelli RE, lo spazio d’arte contemporanea, diretto da Gianluca Winkler, è teatro di numerose pièce culturali. La sensazione di entrare in un enorme spazio sopravvissuto a un tempo che ormai non gli appartiene più, carica di fascino questo edificio che si distingue non solo per i suoi 15000 m2 di superficie, ma per l’assenza di elementi a scala umana nel corpo principale. L’interno, completamente dipinto di un blu scuro e le tipiche caratteristiche architettoniche di uno spazio industriale, ne fanno una dinamica “officina delle arti”, ben diversa dalla configurazione tradizionale del museo. La luce è principalmente una luce chiave portata da proiettori a ioduri metallici, installati sulle colonne della struttura portante. Si accompagna un livello minimo di illuminazione di base data da una sequenza di sospensioni a fluorescenza installate nella corsia centrale. Apparecchi: proiettori kruys ioduri metallici a plafone, sospensioni QSO fluorescenti.

Providing unobtrusive functional lighting in an exhibition showcasing 12 videoinstallations by young Italian artists is not as easy as one might imagine, especially if the space hosting them is a generously-sized building such as the Bicocca hangar. This building, formerly belonging to the Ansaldo group, was originally a facility producing electrical coils for train motors. Converting industrial buildings into contemporary art centres is a well-known practice which has been successfully applied world-wide (some examples include the Baltic Centre in Gateshead, the Tate Modern in London, the Dia:Beacon in New York). The key to success lies in the ability to give new significance both to the sites and to the neighbourhoods they are in, often suburbs, industrial estates, inner city or depressed urban areas. Today owned by Pirelli RE, the space of contemporary art, directed by Gianluca Winkler, has become the center of many cultural events. The sensation of entering a huge space which has survived its times makes this building a fascinating sight, which stands out not just thanks to its 15,000 square metres of surface, but for the notable absence of any human-scale elements in the main body. The interior is wholly painted in dark blue and features the typical architectural elements of industrial buildings, that characterise it as a dynamic “workshop of the arts”, its layout unlike any traditional museum setting. Illumination mainly consists in key lighting provided by metal halide projectors, installed on the pillars of the load-bearing structure, complemented by a minimal level of base lighting provided by a sequence of fluorescence pendants installed in the central aisle. Fixtures: metal halide Kruys ceiling projectors, fluorescent QSO pendants.
