WELCOME This year is set to be the biggest and most exciting event in the history of the Brighton Marathon Weekend, and I’m delighted to welcome you to the seventh edition.
impressed at the size of the crowds on Race Weekend and we know that our runners are truly grateful for every cheer or shout of encouragement.
The number of runners has increased once more this year, with the Brighton Marathon looking like it will break through an amazing 10,000 finishers. This is a significant milestone for us as organisers, putting us into Europe’s Top 12 largest marathons and showcasing the city on an international level.
This community spirit is one of the most unique aspects of the Brighton Marathon Weekend, far out performing so many other running events in the UK. Thank you on behalf of the team and all of our runners this year.
Runners this year are travelling from all over the world to take part, from as far as Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand. This is a great credit to the City of Brighton & Hove and the fantastic enthusiasm and support displayed by the residents and wider community. We continue to be hugely

THE RACES BRIGHTON MARATHON
BM10K
The Brighton Marathon is one of the UK’s favourite 26.2 milers. With its buzzing atmosphere, roaring crowd and a stunning backdrop of the sea it has become the second largest UK marathon in just six years and now attracts runners from all around the world.
The BM10k will see thousands of people running 10k along the first part of the Brighton Marathon route, and will start at 8.30am just ahead of the marathon. It is now a hugely popular 10k race in the UK running calendar, offering its participants the chance to experience the buzzing atmosphere and exciting infrastructure of a large-scale weekend event without the 26.2 mile distance attached.
One of the most unique things about the event is the amazing community support, and a course that finishes up on the spectacular Brighton seafront, in front of hundreds of thousands of cheering spectators. Over 100,000 are expected to line the city streets to show their support and give encouragement to the runners this year. Over £35millon has been raised in charity fundraising since 2010, for hundreds of different charities globally. The 2016 event will start on Sunday 17th April at 9.15am in Preston Park, Brighton. www.brightonmarathon.co.uk #brightonmarathon
The race was introduced in 2014 to the Brighton Marathon Weekend line-up and has allowed many friends and families to take part together in the 10k and the marathon. Groups can arrive at the start for both events, warm up and enjoy the experience for a memorable weekend of running and celebration. www.bm10k.com #bm10k

These age-related races offer fantastic inspiration to children to get outdoors and get active in a fun way. Open to 7-17 year olds, this is a wonderful opportunity for youngsters to experience the exciting atmosphere of a mass participation race at one of the UK’s best youth running events. Over 2,000 children are expected to take part, each covering a one-mile distance around the park. We are also very pleased to introduce our 2016 title sponsor, Cancer Research UK Kids & Teens. Every day around 10 young people in the UK are diagnosed with cancer. Cancer Research UK Kids & Teens is a campaign to raise money for research into cancers affecting children, teens and young adults. www.brightonminimile.co.uk #CRUKMiniMile

Collectively, their supporters have raised a fantastic £39,966.98 across the years of involvement with the Brighton Marathon.

WHAT’S ON OVER THE WEEKEND 15th-17th April
MATTHEW HUGHES
Web Editor of www.WeLoveBrighton.com Brighton is bursting with culture, nightlife and restaurants on every street and never fails to disappoint on any day of the week. For anyone wanting to indulge in the delights Brighton has to offer, this is We Love Brighton’s advice for the best things to try over the Brighton Marathon Weekend. One of the best things to do on any given weekend is catch a show at Brighton’s beautiful Theatre Royal, set in the heart of the famous North Laine. This weekend is perfect for families and grown ups alike with smash hit ‘Horrible Histories - Incredible Invaders’ playing on Friday and Saturday. As any Brightonian would care to tell you, Komedia is at the heart of Brighton’s cultural

life and with its iconic statue legs kicking up to the sky, it’s hard to miss. Friday 15th sees the tongue-in-cheek English Disco Lovers (EDL) lighting up the dance floor till the wee hours with classic disco grooves. For those looking for live music, the weekend’s highlight is on Friday at Concorde 2, where enigmatic Brit-pop indie band The Bluetones will be bringing down the house. Brighton’s art galleries seldom fail to ignite the imagination and Corridor Gallery are exhibiting Jana Nicole’s ‘From A To Z’ throughout April, a colourful multi-media exhibit taking on an eclectic array of topics from religion to breakfast cereals.
The city’s leading arts venue, Brighton Dome, is always alive with a diverse array of events and this weekend is no exception with a performance of Macbeth by talented local theatre students on Sunday 17th. Creative craft hub Made Brighton are putting on one of their special workshops for a full day of creativity on Saturday. Why not try the Fabulous Fabric Jewellery workshop where you can make your own pieces of jewellery?

counselling, welfare services, physiotherapy, spiritual care and complementary therapy We were struck by the fact that St Peter & St James needs to raise over £7,200 a day to run the hospice and community services – and we’re glad to be in a position to help. In the week leading up to the big day, the Friday Media Group head office in Sayers Common was visited by Carolyn Robinson, Donor Relationship Manager for St Peter & St James, who gave a presentation about the work of the Hospice. To boost our fundraising efforts we also held a Cake Sale and launched a Charity Sweepstake so staff could bet on the total time of the participating runners. We also set up a 12-hour ‘Treadmill Runathon’ on the sales floor – so anyone who owns a pair of trainers could have their moment in the spotlight!
