Founded in 1929, the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra (OSX) exemplifies the cultural commitment the University of Veracruz - one of the largest and most important public universities in Mexico.
Today, thanks to the efforts of many Mexicans and people from around the world who consider music to be one of the highest manifestations of the human spirit, it has become
one of the most renowned orchestras in Mexico

Throughout its 85-year history, the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra has projected its musical vision both nationally and internationally, taking on a leading role in major artistic events in Mexico. For instance,
Pablo Casals International Cello Festival and Competition in 1959 which reunited such renowned musicians as the aforementioned Casals, Heitor Villa-Lobos, Andre Navarra, Zara Nelsova and Mstislav Rostropovich.

INTERNATIONAL TOURS Worldwide, the OSX represented Mexico in the Europalia International Arts Festival in 1993 and has toured internationally, most recently to Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Germany in 2004 and to Guatemala in 2010, where it was hailed as "the foremost ambassador of Mexican music and creativity."

Among the most notable soloists to perform with the OSX are: Pierre Fournier, Horacio Gutiérrez, Claudio Arrau, Mitslaw Rostropovitch, Henryk Szering, Angélica Morales, Manuel Suarez, Emil Gilels, Ruggiero Ricci, Michael Rabin, Jorge Luis Prats, Alfred Brendel, Plácido Domingo, Piotr Paleczny, Konstanty Kulka, Andrea Bocelli, Rosario Andrade, Vladimir Spivakov, Norman Krieger, María Luisa Tamez, Carlos Prieto, Manuel Ramos, Richard Markson, Grant Johannensen, Olivia Gorra, Jorge Federico Osorio, Richard Stoltzman, Philippe Quint and Javier Camarena.
The Xalapa Symphony Orchestra has hosted many prestigious conductors and soloists, and has premiered many new pieces which, along with the standard works, constitute a strong repertory that has set the standard for other Mexican orchestras. Among the long list of conductors that have performed with the OSX, some of the most prominent are: Hermann Scherchen, Fritz Reiner, Neeme Jarvi, JuliĂĄn Carrillo, Eduardo Mata, Jorge Mester, Hans Zanotelli, JosĂŠ Iturbe, Bruno Campanella, Jorma Panula, Zuohuang Chen and Krzysztof Penderecky. Since 2013, Xalapa Symphony Orchestra has a new home, the Tlaqna Cultural Center, whose facilities and acoustics are on par with other world-class concert halls.

Larry Kirkegaard has consulted on a significant number of the world’s performing arts facilities designed or renovated over the past forty years. He has been a pioneering figure in the field of architectural acoustics, helping to redefine the relationship between music and architecture achievements recognized by the Acoustical Society of America, American Institute of Architects, United States Institute for Theatre Technology, and conductors and musicians around the world.
Lanfranco Marcelletti Music Director
One of Brazil`s most internationally renowned artists Since January of 2012, Lanfranco Marcelletti has been the Music Director of the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra, with whom he has pledged to devote the passion for music and professionalism that has characterized his career. In addition, he has established a rapport with the audience that regularly attends the Xalapa Symphony’s concerts, relating entertaining historical anecdotes of the performed works in his charismatic and effusive style.
