Originally called New Zealand Christian Football Association (NZCFA) was founded in 1981 by a group of men wanting to play social football outside of the local club competition to equip churches as an outreach tool to the community. At the end of 2019 the NZCFA changed its name to “Christian Football League” or known as CFL / NZCFL. We welcome people to participate in the league from all backgrounds, but Jesus still remains the core and the heart of the league in everything we do.

Wynton Rufer is the greatest player NZ has ever produced. He first came to the attention of the wider NZ public when he was selected for the All Whites at the end of their campaign to make the 1982 World Cup in Spain. It was his goal against China in a deciding match that took us to our 1st World Cup.
Since then, Wynton has a huge list of achievements.
Grasshoppers: Swiss Cup 1989, Swiss Super Cup 1989 Werder Bremen: Bundesliga 1993, DFB-Pokal 1991, 1994, DFB-Supercup 1993, 1994, UEFA Cup Winners Cup 1992 (scored in final),
Kaiserslautern: Bundesliga 2 1997
Central Utd: Chatham Cup 1997
Individual: NZ Young Player of the Year 1981, 1982, Oceania Player of the Year 1989, 1990, 1992, Oceania Player of the Century, UEFA Champions League Golden Boot 1994,
The idea for this game came to create a partnership between SoccerPlusNZ and CFL and create opportunities to network.
In the initial games Wynton played scoring a hattrick in the inaugural game in 2003. 1 goal for the CFL in the 1st half, He then switched teams in the 2nd half and scored 2 goals. The result was SoccerPlusNZ 7 CFA 3
