License Plate Update on Page 2
“Impact” seems to be a big word these days. Everyone wants to make an impact and often times collective efforts focus on making a large-scale impact to a project or in the community.
We have opportunities to make an impact each and every day as we continue to influence outcomes and inspire others. Friends has been busy making an impact on and off campus.
Impact is important when it comes to our personal leadership efforts. Sometimes the smallest gesture can produce profound results:
The University recently announced plans for expansion of its “footprint” into Wichita’s Delano Historic District as two buildings have been purchased specifically for use by students and faculty in the Art Department. The larger space will allow students to display their pieces in an on-site art gallery, include faculty offices and a large lecture hall. The buildings are anticipated to be ready for occupancy by the 2013 fall semester.
•
Consider that extra hour you can give to a special project at work.
•
Invite a friend to a networking event that you participate in and plan to arrange key introductions on his behalf.
•
Prepare a special meal for your family because you know how much it would mean to them.
•
Write a thank you note to a teacher or professor for one of the life lessons you learned because of their leadership. (Can you imagine how you would feel if you – out of the blue – received a heartfelt thank you note because of something that you did?)
$200 Legacy Scholarships are being offered for the 2012-2013 academic year to children of alumni and former students (having completed at least 12 credit hours). This scholarship can be renewed for each subsequent year the student attends Friends University, as long as he or she maintains a 2.0 GPA, and applications are accepted yearround. For more information or to request an application, please contact the Alumni Office. (Continued on Page 3)

Alumni Spotlight In this issue of Campus Connection, we are pleased to spotlight alumna Jill Laffoon, G’99.
CAMPUS (CONNECTION)
Jill earned her associates degree through the Program for Adult College Education (PACE). She currently serves as director of marketing for the Kansas Masonic Home in Wichita. Most recently, she passed the examination for professional public relations accreditation(APR) from the Universal Accreditation Board. Jill studied for and completed her examination as a member of the Kansas Chapter of Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). She is currently the 36th public relations professional in the state to hold accreditation status. Jill has a unique marketing background that includes real world education in local radio, newspaper, advertising agency work, and a successful run as a retail store owner. Having played on both sides of the advertising agencyclient fence, she knows her way around marketing and sales down to the details of execution. Previously, she served in various business and communication positions with Passport Ink, Coldwell Banker and Associated Advertising. When she isn’t working, Jill loves to spend time with her three children, enjoys scuba diving, and describes herself as someone who “can share a ridiculous amount of... Wichita trivia,” and is “easily distracted by shoes and shiny things.”
University Kansas license plates now available

This means that by the time you read this issue of Campus Connection, the plates will be available to pick up from your local county tag office! A supplemental order for Sedgwick County has been placed as of July 16. If you did not pre-purchase a plate from the University, you can still purchase one “over-the-counter” next time your tag comes due. Approximately 600 students, alumni, parents, friends and members from the local community were in attendance, along with nearly 50 delegates from visiting colleges who showed their support.
