Human Services – Psychology You will learn… The Psychology program in the College of Adult and Professional Studies prepares adult students to work in the helping professions. This practice-oriented degree will give you a better understanding of human nature and of yourself and others as individuals and as members of a group. This degree will give you a strong foundation in interpersonal skills, critical thinking, knowledge of group and organizational behavior, one-on-one and small group communication, research, written communication, and solving practical or theoretical problems. Field experiences with local organizations give you hands-on work experience in the field and help you begin networking with other professionals. These experiences help you learn to assess your clients’ needs, express care and empathy, and act as an advocate for your clients.

With this degree, you can… You will be well prepared for a variety of roles where you can help people overcome adversity, enhance their well-being and realize their full potential. You can make a difference in people’s lives through non-profit organizations, hospital settings, youth ministry or social service agencies. With a strong understanding of human behavior, you will also be well prepared for business-related jobs, such as management, consulting, advertising, business and marketing professions.

FAQ Where is the Psychology degree offered? This program is offered in Wichita.

How long will it take to complete my degree? This varies depending on several factors, including how much previous college credit you have. However, you can start as soon as you want and finish as soon as you like. You determine your own pace – whether you want to take one evening course per week or more than one per week. Your admissions counselor can give you a better idea of your total time to degree.

How can Prior Learning Assessment help me complete my degree more quickly? You can earn up to 30 hours of college credit toward your degree by earning credit for college-level learning acquired outside the classroom. This can include learning experiences from work, professional training, volunteer activities, military service and life. Ask your admissions counselor for more information about this option.

Can I complete all my classes during the evening? While most classes for this degree are offered in the evening, there could be some field experiences that may need to be completed during daytime or weekend hours. You should visit with your admissions counselor to better understand these requirements.
