by Jeff Green y the time this paper hits your post box on Thursday morning the Ontario election campaign will have been announced. With Queen’s Park finally shutting down and the election “writ” period under way, the candidates in the new provincial riding of LanarkFrontenac-Kingston (LFK) will be out campaigning in earnest. With a short campaign and the interruption brought on by the Victoria Day Weekend, the Frontenac News was unable to put together two dates for all candidates meetings with all four candidates, so we will be holding only one, in Sydenham on May 28. The exact location will be finalised this week. The meeting, which is cosponsored by the Frontenac Federation of Agriculture, will run from 7-9pm. Full details will be available at frontenacnews.ca and in next week’s paper. The candidates this time around include Randy Hillier (PC), the incumbent in most of the new riding as the member from Lanark Frontenac, Lennox and Addington, is a former electrician from Perth. Amanda PulkerMok, a member of council in Mississippi Mills, is the Liberal Party candidate. Ramsey Hart, the Executive Director of the The Table in Perth, a community food program, is the NDP candidate. Anita Payne, a retired teacher from Perth, is the Green Party candidate. The new riding mirrors the federal LFK riding, which was contested for the first time in 2016 when the Conservative Party candidate, Scott Reid won the local election with just under 50% of the vote, even as his party were removed from power and relegated to the opposition benches. As the election call arrives, the PC sit at around 40% according to an aggregation of recent provine-wide opinion polls, with the NDP and the Liberals both polling in the 25%-30% range. This leaves a few questions. Will the Conservatives under leader Dough Ford maintain or increase that level of popularity, and if they don’t which other party will emerge as the most likely to upend them on June 7? At the News we will be interviewing each of the candidates for a feature edition on May 31st, our primer to the 2018 election in LFK.

by Craig Bakay he 2018 Canadian Guitar Festival (CGF) is officially cancelled. Del Vezeau, who has organized the Festival for 14 years, has announced that because of disagreements with South Frontenac Township leading to legal processes, the festival cannot be held this year. It had been scheduled for the weekend of July 27-29. The Festival regularly featured internationally acclaimed artists like Don Ross, Ed Gerhard, Antoine Dufour and John Ainsworth. VEzeau indicated early last week that he was considering cancelling, and came to a final decision two days later. “After the judge’s ruling, we can’t really do the CGF, it’s illegal,” said Vezeau. After three years of negotiating and debating whether the CGF was a permitted use of Vezeau’s Loughborough Lake Holiday Park campground, the township took Vezeau to court on Jan. 24 this year seeking a ruling that concerts and weddings open to the public held at the park were in contravention of Zoning Bylaw 2003-75 and an order restraining him from using his property other than in compliance with the zoning bylaw. Judge J. Hurley ruled that while concerts were in violation of the bylaw, he was not prepared to issue an injunction. On March 28, Judge Hurley further ruled

by Jeff Green or the Bond family of Godfrey, being involved with the Lake Effects FIRST Robotics team, was kind of like being a hockey family. This winter was filled with after-school working sessions two or three times a week in Kingston, trips to regional competitions across Ontario, and finally to Detroit. With three of his kids involved (Freja, Torin and Saben), father Damon had little choice but to get involved himself as a mentor/coach/cheerleader. The grade 9-12 kids on the Lake Effects team were focused on this year’s FIRST (For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) challenge, which was to build a robot capable of moving and stacking large blocks in order to tip a set of scales in the prescribed direction. Lake Effects worked in partnership with other teams at competitions, and within the team itself members also brought different skills to the group and took on different tasks. The whole competition culminated in a final event in Detroit at the Ford Centre in front of 40,000 people. For Lake Effects, it was an historic competition win, and the culmination of a massive effort, lots of learning and lots of fun. They are world champions. that the Township was entitled to $10,000 in costs from Vezeau. According to the Township, its costs on a substantial indemnity basis were $25,214.02 inclusive of disbursements and HST and on a partial indemnity basis, $17,209.66. Vezeau has put a “blog” entry on his Facebook Page containing several documents pertaining to the case including a potential draft bylaw that would have permitted “an outdoor concert/music festival” as well as “a tourist establishment consisting of 50 trailer/ cabin sites.” Vezeau said that the zoning he already had allows 94 tent or serviced trailer sites and two cabins. Then there was the question of cost for a zoning amendment which would have cost $2,326 ($1,326 non-refundable application fee plus a $1,000 deposit to cover additional fees is necessary) and potential fees from the Public Health Unit and/or conservation authorities. Vezeau said he did contact the township a week before the court proceedings to tell them “I’ll take your deal” was told it was too late. While disappointed in having to cancel the festival this year, Vezeau said it hasn’t affected his health. “I went to the doctor and my blood pressure is 120/72, and my blood work is good,”
he said. “Despite the Oort Cloud that is this situation, my health is unaffected. “It looks like I’ll be making a $10,000 contribution to the Township over and above what I pay in taxes.” As to the future of the CGF, Vezeau said he has had an offer to move it to Arkansas but that isn’t likely for this year. “As for next year and beyond, we’ll let the light shine through and the rats on deck scramble for higher ground,” he said. “And we’re talking about going to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing to give the township a much-needed spanking. “But for now, we’ll take a break and recalibrate.”

There have not exactly been a flurry of nominations for municipal office in the first couple of weeks since the nomination period opened. With a provincial election now underway and set to gain more and more attention throughout the month of May leading up to the June 7 election date, there is no real reason why candidates should be in a hurry. The only advantage that comes from submitting nomination papers early is the ability to spend money on the campaign, which not a lot of candidates are doing. But still a number of candidates are already in.

Beavers the bomb at CF meeting eavers took up much of the Central Frontenac regular Council meeting Tuesday night in Oso Hall as staff presented a draft bylaw to deal with the Country’s official symbol (or chief pest depending on your outlook). But while everyone agreed that broken beaver dams post a significant threat to area roadways, how to deal with that threat was far from a point of agreement. “I agree we need a written policy but I don’t agree we need a bylaw and definitely don’t agree that complaints about beaver dams be made to the bylaw enforcement officer,” said Coun. John Purdon. “We’ve never had a (beaver bylaw) (a fact confirmed by ClerkAdministrator Cathy MacMunn) and we don’t need one now.” Under the proposed bylaw and guidelines, Township officials could enter private property whenever they perceive a threat to Township roads and compel property owners to deal with said threat. “Why should I, as a property owner, be responsible?” said Purdon. “The (provincial) law says I can’t remove a beaver dam unless it affects my property.” Coun. Brent Cameron pointed out that if the bylaw is complaint-driven, it could be used to ‘get back’ at a neighbour. “Certainly we can tighten this up so it’s not used in a way that it’s not intended,” Cameron said. “The complainant in this case would be the municipality,” said Mayor Frances Smith. “But certainly it could use some tightening up. (And) it starts talking about beavers but goes on to mention ‘other obstructions,’” said Dep. Mayor Tom Dewey. “It think we may need a lawyer to take a look at it.” MacMunn apologized that there was no representative from Public Works available to give additional information on the proposed policy and bylaw but said she’d ask some questions and bring the draft back to
Council. “Good beaver discussion,” said Smith. “I’m sure we’ll have many more. Day of the Pig coming back Council approved a ‘Day of the Pig’ for Oso Beach this summer, further to a request from Seed to Sausage owner Mike McKenzie. The food and drink extravaganza was held at the beach last year on the May long weekend. However, it became so popular that parking on Road 38 became a major concern. McKenzie had suggested it become a township-sponsored event but Coun. Tom Dewey pointed out that if that were the case, it would have to be for charity because municipalities aren’t allowed to hold moneymaking events. Mayor Frances Smith suggested that District 3 Rec could conceivably be the charity. There was some discussion that the Parham Fairgrounds might be another site to be looked at in a future year.

predicted a good year construction-wise in his report. “Things were a little slow starting off this year but I’m told the June list might have 15 things on it.” Merriman also responded to Coun. Phillip Smith’s questions about vandalism to the fence and the Pavilion at the Parham Fairgrounds. “There was also some vandalism at the school and they stole some plumbing from the canteen,” Merriman said. “Between the wind storm and the vandalism, that area took quite a hit.” “It’s a sure sign we need to start installing video cameras everywhere,” said Mayor Frances Smith.

Time Capsule burial set
S
outh Frontenac Mayor, Ron Vandewal invites you to join him on Friday May 18th at 1:00 P.M. to bury some of our Township’s History. As part of our local initiatives in 2017 to mark Canada’s 150th, the Township collected numerous items from the Community to place in a time capsule. Now that the ground has thawed, it is time for the capsule to be buried at Centennial Park in Harrowsmith with hopes that it will be unearthed in 50 years to mark Canada 200. The stainless steel time capsule constructed by D. Martin Welding is full of items such as photographs, newspaper clippings, aerial photographs of our area schools with the students, local sports memorabilia and many more items. Mayor Vandewal even included a copy of his 2017 property tax bill. The capsule will be covered with a large stone that will feature a plaque to commemorate the project. Mayor Vandewal says, “The Township thanks all of those that contributed items to be placed in the time capsule.” “This is an exciting project that will provide our kids and grandkids a glimpse into South Frontenac’s past.” added Vandewal.

Re – Theft in Arden
wo planting barrels have now been stolen from their locations in Arden: one on the Arden Road about half a mile south of Hwy 7, the other at Willett Lane near Gallery on the Bay. These barrels, courtesy of Villages Beautiful, are from funds raised at Festival of Trees and are filled with lovely flowers during the summer, and with greenery and decorations during the winter months. The barrels help to beautify Arden and are a source of pride in our village. Just because the barrels aren’t on private property doesn’t mean they are up for grabs. These barrels are costly, and it would be a shame to have to stop the plantings because someone sees it as his/ her right to confiscate the containers. Whoever you are, please return the barrels, no questions asked. Do the right thing. Judith Versavel

alph Waldo Emerson said “The cheat, bully and malefactor we see everywhere is the government” and that is more true today than ever. Case in point is the abuse of power for illegal activity, in this case, the attack on the property rights of people who are suffering this outrage courtesy of the system in using tax dollars to impose financial hardship on innocent people whose land is being expropriated. I always thought expropriation was limited to essential, serious and necessary utilization as in land for highways, intersections, etc. Yet one wonders how a county can focus their illegal and arbitrary powers on seiz-

re Mystery History Tour
O
n Saturday, May 5th, I attended the CMCA “Mystery History Tour” at ClarMill Hall in Plevna where I was handed a First Class K and P boarding pass for a “hamlet to hamlet” tour that included beautiful and informative displays of historic photographs and documentation on this rugged northern region of Frontenac Count: log barns and early settlers; fishing lodges and hunting camps; homesteads and general stores; area mining and logging activity. There was even a miniature train display chugging along with the help of a vintage steam engine! With lunch and goodies served up at the “Trout Lake Hotel Train Stop”, the atmosphere was relaxed and homey. Gary Giller and Jim MacPherson, dressed up in their CF Railway Heritage Society train gear, entertained the appreciative crowd with songs true to the theme. I was blown away when my name was chosen as grand prize winner at the final draw. Almost a dozen local businesses had stepped forward in support of this event, donating a bountiful array of artistic, outdoorsy and historic items. Hats off to Brenda Martin, along with her dedicated team, for hosting this third in a series of very successful events showcasing and preserving the rich history of North Frontenac Township. Pine Meadow Fundraising by Jeff Green ickets for the annual Pine Meadow Special Needs Fund raffle are now on sale at various locations. The proceeds from the raffle sales go towards monthly excursions for the residents at Pine Meadow Nursing Home in Northbrook. The prizes are a beautiful quilt funded and constructed by the Land O Lakes Quilting group and hand quilted by the Treadles Quilting Group, and a concrete bench and side table designed by Tuscany Concrete. Tickets are $3.00 each or 2 for $5.00 and will be sold up until the day of the Pine Meadow Charity Golf tournament on June 23rd. The draw will be held at Pine Meadow on that date and results will be announced at the tournament. Only 2,500 tickets were printed so they may not be available for that long. They are available at Pine Meadow, Nowell Motors and other locations. Look for volunteers in front of local grocery stores later this month. The Special Needs Committee also organises the annual Pine Meadow Classic at Hunter’s Creek golf course. It is the biggest fundraiser they run, netting in excess of $15,000 each year. Tickets for the

tournament, which include a BBQ lunch and green fees, are a reasonable $55 per person, and are available through Eleanor Nowell at Nowell motors. Call 613-3362547. Laury Hitchcock is a long time volunteer with the special needs committee. She said that both the raffle and the tournament owe a lot of their success to the support of the small business community, and to families, in the surrounding region. “The tournament has 80 to 100 sponsors, with new ones coming on every year. And there are the players. One family, cottagers in the area, bring two teams every year. They make it a tradition.” Over its 15 year history the tournament has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars, and all of the money has gone towards extras that are not covered in Pine Meadow’s funding. The home is a community owned not for profit enterprise, under the umbrella of Land O’Lakes Community Services. This year the money raised will go towards: adjustable dining room tables, additional patio furniture, an autoscope, woodworking materials, slings and replacement lifts.

There is no doubt that e-cigarettes are less lung-polluting than tobacco or marijuana cigarettes. However, most e-cigarettes contain varying amounts of an addictive chemical, nicotine which increases heart rate. Work is still being done on this subject to determine whether it is only the nicotine that causes this or some other ingredient in the e-cigarette content. But nicotine is addictive. Women often ask pharmacists what works for hair loss. Acute hair loss is often caused by chemotherapy drugs and hair grows back after the therapy is stopped. Some hair loss can be caused by hormonal changes in the body or even thyroid dysfunction. This type of hair loss is also reversible once the underlying medical problem is resolved. In some cases, moderate hair regrowth can occur using products containing minoxidil. Pharmacists can help you in this area. Kidney stones can cause a lot of pain. How can you prevent them? There is some evidence that simply increasing daily water consumption can reduce the number of stones forming. How much water‘? One research group was suggesting enough water to produce 2.5 litres (about 10 cups) of urine daily. It takes discipline to drink that much water but the motivator is to think of the pain kidney stones cause. From the memory file: Remember when you were a child and your Mom gave you some ginger ale when you weren’t feeling well? Ginger has an antinauseant effect. Although the amount in ginger in ginger ale is minimal, it probably helped a little. Mom’s TLC helped a lot!

• If you received your property tax bills then you probably already know this, but for those who visit here instead you might want to be aware that the County of Lanark (not Tay Valley Township) will be spraying the ditches again this year with a herbicide commencing May 14 to Oct. 19 weather permitting. I’ve never seen anyone playing in the ditches amongst the wild parsnip but if you do, be aware of both this nice looking but dangerous weed and the dangerous herbicide. The areas to be treated and program details including opt out (no spray) options, may be accessed on the County of Lanark’s website. You will have to look it up, or call 613267-1353. • 2018 Pitch - In Month – April 22 – May 20 - Demonstrate Your Civic Pride - Get Involved!! • We are hearing that people are trying to access the Virtual Tour for Historic Tours of North Frontenac. Some are having trouble because they are using a hyphen in the address. There isn’t one. Try again. https://cmcabook2017.wixsite. com/nfhistorictour CMCA will be using the number of visits to the site in our numbers for the grant summary by May 18TH. • Saturday’s History Mystery Tour began with some excitement as there was no hydro at ClarMill Hall. Thanks to Jason Lemke, working for the Township, who setup a generator so activities could go ahead as planned. Thanks to our musical entertainers Gary Giller and Jim MacPherson; our train display from Franco and Lydia Balestro; conductor Larry Leeson; and those who helped prepare a delicious luncheon. Many local residents were without power and had to deal with fridges and freezers, broken trees and more. The event was attended by close to 100 people and we thank them for taking time to participate with the mystery clues and to view the many displays. CMCA appreciated the support of local businesses who donated prizes whether for the many door prizes or the Grand Prize. You may see Brian Robertson in North Frontenac more than usual as he has shopping to do. Brian was the Grand Prize winner. • (Editors note – no wonder he wrote a letter to the editor praising the event – see page 3)

History Mystery Tour goes on despite power outage by Craig Bakay t was the history event that almost didn’t happen. After the windstorm last Friday night, power was out all over the north county, including Clar-Mill Hall in Plevna. For Brenda Martin, coordinator of the Clarendon and Miller Community Archives, this presented quite the challenge as the History Mystery Tour was scheduled for Saturday. “(On Saturday Morning) I chased a hydro guy down the road,” she said. “When he told me it could be some time before power was restored, I had to get Jason Lemke to bring over generators from the Township. “We usually have an annual event on the first Saturday in May.” By the time the doors opened at noon, everything was up and running on generator power. The ‘Tour’ consisted of a simulated tour around the hamlets and mines of old North
I
Frontenac, using the K & P Railway “The Tour is based on our latest book, Historic Tours of North Frontenac,” Martin said. “The ‘Mystery’ part is based on answering three questions from the book but there were also clues in The Frontenac News and as you travel around the various hamlet displays, the questions will be answered.” Visitors got their ‘tickets’ punched at the various hamlet stops (Myers Cave, Fernleigh, Ardoch) and answered questions based on the book. The tickets were then entered in a draw for a substantial prize package donated by local businesses. “It’s a lot of fun,” said Martin. The other aspect of the event was to showcase the new lodge signs, designed by co-op students Natalie Reynolds and Shannon Delyea. “There are 10 already done and five more to come,” said Martin. “The Township will be putting them up this summer.”
Frontenac Farmers Market T he Frontenac Farmers Market returns to the parking lot at Prince Charles Public School in Verona this coming Saturday (May 12) for its 13th season. This year’s opening market is running in conjunction with the Prince Charles Public School Community Yard Sale. The Yard Sale is scheduled to run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. while the Farmers Market gets underway at 9 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m. Market vendor and chair Laura Simmons said that this year, they are trying to broaden the community outreach and participation aspect of the weekly market, which runs until Oct. 27. “We’re working with a number of not-for-profits in the Verona area and further afield,” Simmons said. “Our schedule isn’t quite set yet but we hope to have live music and some really fun kid and family activities. Simmons said there will be about two dozen vendors this season, with a couple of
new ones and a number of returning favourites. “Some of our members will already have greenhouse produce for sale and there will be plenty of seedlings available,” she said. One aspect of the Market they’re looking to revive is sponsorships. “We did have a few sponsors at one time and we’d like to do that again,” she said. “It would give us a little bit more of a budget for things like musicians and and events. “If anyone is interested,

they can contact me at information@frontenacfarmersmarket.ca and in return for sponsorship, we’ll include them in our advertising on site and through other means.” She said anyone wishing to rent a space for a week can also contact her at the aforementioned email. “Hopefully there will be a lot of interest this year,” she said. “We’re looking forward to seeing old friends back
again and meeting plenty of new ones.

THank You - DELYEa The family of the late Sharon Delyea is so thankful for the great outpouring of kindness and support from family, friends, and neighbours. The overwhelming response was a true testament to the impact her life made on everyone who knew her. Thank you to everyone at Milestone Funeral Centre. Your gentle and caring ways were appreciated during this difficult time. To everyone who made donations in Sharon's memory - thank you. To everyone who sent flowers or cards of encouragement - your thoughtfulness and words meant so much. Thanks to the Kaladar Community Centre for the use of the hall and for organizing the luncheon. To those who provided our family with meals - we are so grateful. Thank you to the first responders. You went above and beyond and we are so appreciative. Finally, we want to thank Bethel Pentecostal Church for your prayers and support, Pauline Thompson for playing the piano at the funeral, and Pastor Rob Heyman for the beautiful funeral service. May God bless all of you for your kindness. Archie, Randy and Stephanie, Cindy and Dwayne and families

IN MEMoRIAM Fern G. Hayes An Angel lived among us, a gift from God above. She showered us with Kindness and shared with us her Love She cherished every moment, with a good man by her side. Walking hand in hand together, facing each day in her stride She loved her children dearly, each one a different way. here is something to be said about supporting local: when the community works together, everyone benefits. Backwoods Country Creations, a local home decor business from Sharbot Lake, was asked to host a Fundraiser Sign Making Class in support of the Grade 6, 7 and 8 classes at Land O’ Lakes Public School in Mountain Grove. Annette Gray-Jackson approached Backwoods after seeing an advertisement on Facebook. Once she had the support of administration, order forms went home with students to share with their families. On Thursday, May 6th, the community rallied together to make this event a success, with a great turnout of 17 participants raising $255 during a two-hour class. All proceeds from the event went to the class fund for an end-of-year trip. Michelle Allen, the owner of Backwoods Country Creations says she was pleased to be asked to host a class at LOLPS, stating “hosting fundraisers are so rewarding, as the participants discover their creative potential and create masterpieces for themselves, while also giving back to a worthy cause”. Backwoods Country Creations hosts classes regularly, and in addition to fundraising op-

IN MEMoRIAM HAWLEY, Keith Ormond
Dec 2, 1929 — May ll, 2017 In loving memory of a dear husband, father, grandfather and great—grandfather, who was taken from us suddenly on May 11, 2017, in his 88th year. Keith was a top-notch Electrician and furnace repair man (Keith hawley Electric and heating) and a founding member of the original oso Township Volunteer Fire Department (1949). He remained a dedicated fireman for 68 years. When a man takes a woman to be his wife, He promises God he will keep her for life, But God doesn't say how long life will be, And HE never reveals it to you or to me. The man HE took with him was truly blessed, He was weak, he was weary, He deserved a good rest. His presence on earth is surely gone, But in our hearts, his spirit lives on.
Sadly missed and forever loved. Wife-Irene, Robert, Beverley, Bryon & families.

DNA testing can fill in gaps in family trees and paper genealogy, says speaker by Craig Bakay he kind of testing done for genealogy does not address the complex issues of medical research involved in determining rare genetic disorders,” Joyce Fingland, past chair of the Kingston branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society told those assembled at the Parham branch of the Kingston Frontenac Public Library Saturday. “So the question is ‘which test and then what?’” Fingland went over three companies who’ve been offering DNA testing for several years, ancestry.ca, FamilyTreeDNA and 23andMe, outlining the pros and cons of each as well as some newer and smaller companies like MyHeritage and Living DNA. “The ‘why’ part of it is to supplement paper genealogy,” she said. “It can take you further back in your family history and solve mysteries.” Fingland said that the information to be gleaned declines rapidly with each generation. “You’ve inherited very little DNA from your 6th great grandfather,” she said. “So don’t beat yourself up over it
“T
too much.” But, since the companies compile databases and run your test against many others, there’s a good chance you’ll find a match. And all you have to do is spit in a test tube and send it in. (She did say that there are preservatives in the test tube to help minimize DNA deterioration but don’t wait a year before sending in your sample.) And there are good chances you’ll connect with 3rd, 4th and 5th cousins who have information you want or are able to verify your paper trail. This can be a big thing for adoptees looking to learn about their birth parents. Fingland urged those interesting in filling out their family tree to join a project to connect with unknown cousins. She
also urged people to test elderly family members who may not be around in a few years. Joyce Fingland, (R) past chair of the Kingston branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society, spoke on DNA testing to determine ancestry at the Parham branch of the Kingston Frontenac Library Saturday.

Observation Pad season kicks off this Saturday evening by Craig Bakay
T
Gary Colwell has some new toys including a MallinCam system that is specially designed to take pictures that aren’t fuzzy. He’s pictured here at his home observatory with his new 12” telescope along with Bear, the cosmic dachshund.

“We’re looking for between $25,000 to $30,000 and if you make a large enough donation, we’ll name it after you.” More details on the GoFundMe campaign are available on the Dark Skies Preserve Facebook page. There are 11 events scheduled this summer including Sept. 1 when seven planets will be observable in one evening (Mercury being the only no-show). All of the events are scheduled to coincide with new moons. The Observation pad is open every evening at 5816 Road 506.
he North Frontenac Star Gazing Pad begins its 2018 series of events this Saturday (May 12) at dusk with The Realm of Galaxies. There should also be some good opportunities to view Venus, Jupiter and Saturn. Astronomer-in-residence Gary Colwell says there are a number of new initiatives this year. “On May 12, I’ll be bringing a MallinCam video camera for live, in colour views of the planets and galaxies,” he said. “The MallinCam is specially designed to produce pictures so you get images that aren’t fuzzy.” This should be advantageous this weekend when viewing the Andromeda, Dumbbell, Sombrero, Whirlpool and/or M106 galaxies. (M106 has a very luminous core and was instrumental in the development of the theory that galactic centres are supermassive black holes.) The other news this summer is the development of a GoFundMe campaign in support of building an observatory to house the 16” telescope that was donated to North Frontenac Township by the Ottawa Centre branch of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. “It’s a 16” Newtonian telescope and a real light bucket,” Colwell said. “With a 12”, you can see the Orion Nebula. With a 16”, you can see colour in the Orion Nebula. “You can see some details on Mars and the Cassini Division in the rings of Saturn.” A 16” telescope is designed for deep sky viewing, he said. “We’re looking at a 16’ by 20’ building with space for the telescope and people viewing,” he said. “We were hoping to have it built this summer, and still might but we’re behind where we wanted to be so we started the fundraising campaign and hope to get $20 here and $20 there.
