Chingay Celebrations 2015
For Social Studies lesson, we did a worksheet that taught us some interesting facts about the three chosen countries. After the social studies lesson, I went to the school library to borrow two books about Brazil as I was fascinated with the things learnt during lesson! On 8 April, the actual day, there was an assembly talk and we were reminded that IFD was a day set aside to celebrate friendship and to try to understand our friends from other countries a bit more. During the assembly talk, we learnt about the languages, traditional costume, food and tourist attractions from the three chosen countries for this year. It was interesting because there were a lot of pictures about the three countries!
As for the Art lesson, we designed our very own paper Russian dolls. The art teacher showed us many pictures of different Russian dolls and then we were asked to use our creativity to design a unique set of Russian dolls. I drew a set of ninja Russian dolls and I loved them! I loved Physical Education (P.E.) lesson the most! We learnt about the most popular sport in Brazil – football! Our P.E. teacher taught us how football was a popular sport in many cultures, such as in the ancient China, even before the World Cup came about. After listening to the interesting facts related to football, we also got the chance to try playing it! I loved it when we got the chance to play ball games during P.E. lessons.
After the assembly talk, we were told that there was a special IFD menu waiting for us during recess that day! My friends and I got very excited as we could finally try something different from the canteen! I bought Locro from Chile during recess and it was so yummy! I wished I had a bigger stomach so that I could also try food from the other countries, such as Pastel de Papa from Chile, Misto from Brazil and Shashlyk from Russia. And there was also a snack corner at the side of the canteen for us to sample some snacks from the three countries for free! I queued up to try all the snacks (blueberry from Chile, Cassava chips from Brazil and South American coffee sweets). I liked the Cassava chips best!
The recess on IFD marked the end of the celebration for this year’s IFD. I was very happy as I had learnt so much throughout the week and I am looking forward to the IFD programmes next year!
