An in-demand performer, arranger, composer, and educator, he has worked with the best in jazz, R&B, and pop, including Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, Isaac Hayes, Natalie Cole, James Brown, Sting, Don Henley, Bruce Hornsby, and Queen Latifah, to name a few. While at Festival Miami, the Christian McBride Trio will present a master class on Monday, October 28 at 5 p.m. that is free and open to the public and will mentor the new freshman Stamps Jazz Quintet, which will debut at this fabulous concert.

Alexander Mijares
© Scholastic Experience Imaging
For its 30th anniversary season, Festival Miami has commissioned Miami’s hottest young artist, Alexander Mijares, to design the artwork that will be featured in the Festival Miami 2013 commemorative poster and promotional materials. The original acrylic on canvas, titled “Making Music through Art,” features Mijares’s signature style in bright, bold colors with musical instruments as well as hidden musical objects throughout the painting for the viewer to discover. The painting evokes the rich variety of musical genres performed at Festival Miami—from classical and jazz to Latin music and beyond. An avid music lover, Mijares says he likes to listen to classical music and Spanish guitar while he paints. His vibrant, one-of-a-kind pieces have been featured at Art Basel, Times Square, art museums, and charity events.
