The only wake up to reality is drinks are not included; ignore the paper of shame listing those reckless decisions from the night before. They sneak it under your door, while you are sleeping. The highlight of the trip for sure is the little moments you spend with your family, unplug, enjoy them and live in the now! Enjoying a rocking good time at Grand Hotel
I
’m pretty sure that everyone you know is still raving about the spectacular summer we just enjoyed here in Northern Michigan. (Everyone that is, except my husband Tom, who hates humidity and moved back to Michigan from Maryland for mainly that very reason). In the stifling heat of the 90’s, almost every day at almost 100% humidity, he would tell stories about magical Michigan summers, cool nights, open windows, bonfires on the beach, s’mores and no need for air conditioning! Not this summer, and I loved every hot sizzling minute, especially the bay being as warm as bathwater. Our family soaked in every sun drizzled second, taking in boat time, paddleboarding, kayaking, swimming, rock collecting, tailgating at Interlochen concerts, beach-time, pool-time and BBQ’s. The ultimate memories were the unplanned, spontaneous, side splitting laughing, super fun times with friends and family. Good Times Indeed! I hope your family’s was just as memorable, living the northern dream. It made it even harder to dig in and get back to work. Luckily one of our stories we had to research and write was a trip to Mackinac Island. I just love my job. It was a first time visit for me and both my kids. I now know why so many families cherish this little jaunt up north. From the ferry ride excitement and seeing the Mighty Mac up close, all the way to arriving at the Island, it’s a blast. I was a little in awe at the smell of horse manure at first, but just as I could take it no more it was quickly wafted away with the ten thousand or so fudge shops that line the Main St. Coincidence, I think not. Tom has always raved about Grand Hotel and starting from the carriage ride up, it does a bang up job of creating an ambiance of grandeur and elegance. I can highly recommend a family stay here at least once in your lifetime and many more if it’s in your budget. We lived it up every grand minute from sipping high tea to dressing up for the five course dinner. Cocktails in the cupola bar, rocking on the porch and dancing all night. We fell into our four poster beds, a memorable evening had by all. The morning
Of course, a part of my everyday joyful family life is that I have Tom to share it with. He helps me with Teaghan and is always there to support me financially and emotionally. I didn’t always have that luxury. Before I met Tom, I was a full time working single mom of two boys for seven years. I was also an only child raised by a courageous single mom in the 70’s, when it wasn’t so cool. So, when I recently heard about a local non-profit called Single Momm that helps single moms in our area, I was compelled to have to help in any way that I was able. It’s a deeper subject than we usually feature, but I think it’s always too easy to forget how truly blessed we are living here in our little paradise bubble. It also is a celebration of how far they have come and they deserve some kudos. Kudo’s also are in order to the couple we feature who share their home story with us. Back in 2009, Sarah and Adam Orth bought the run down old Windows restaurant property on M-22 overlooking West Grand Traverse Bay. Through sheer hard work, determination and patience, their six year project has been transformed into a stunning happy family home. I will bet you that every time you have driven by you’ve wanted a sneak peek inside. So, while I wish it could be summer forever, I think I’m ready to go off my bikini diet and start to collect nuts for the winter. I’m ready to hide in a sweater, say goodbye to pedicures and hello to sassy boots. Watch football on Sundays, see the glow of the first fire, drink cocoa, snuggle on the couch and feel the crisp cool air. My husband is excited to finally open the bloody windows!

Welcome to Traverse City Goodwill of Northern Michigan has a new CEO and threw a little shin dig right in their store to welcome Dan Buron to our community. Dan has an impressive resume working with the Goodwill Organization all over the country and most recently was in Adrian Michigan. We are sad to say goodbye as Cecil McNally, leader of Goodwill Northern Michigan since 2003, retires. During his tenure, He did GOOD things expanding the number of retail operations in northern Michigan from three stores to nine. He oversaw the construction of the new Goodwill Inn and he helped add Food Rescue and new food service and job training programs to Goodwill’s community. Those are big shoes to fill and Dan is ready for the task at hand. Putting Dan to

Honoring Bill Marsh’s Legacy
William Francis Marsh 1936 - 2016
Without visionaries like Bill Marsh, there wouldn’t be the celebration of what it means to live the Baylife today. Bill moved here in 1980 with the love of his life, Ann, and five kids in tow. It was a bold move in the middle of a recession to buy a dealership, and sell cars from a successful life in Pennsylvania, to take a chance on a little town called Traverse City. His business grew with his smart savvy, unique approaches, and tireless work ethic. The Bill Marsh Company is synonymous for generously giving back to the community. Bill set an example for years to come for what it meant to be strong in Faith, Family, Fun, and loving Football. He earned a football scholarship to Yale, and had a forever love for the sport. Today, Traverse City is a thriving gem, a town people aspire to get to. In the glistening background of the Bay, we cherish our family, we live, laugh, and love. We give back, and work really hard to play hard. It is the epitome of the life legacy that Bill Marsh lived every day, and passed on to his daughter, four sons, thirteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and one on the way. We thank him, and his family for paving the way for all our families.

The training wheels are off and its official; Sparks BBQ is here to stay, carving out a permanent smokin’ hot, brick and mortar location on East Front St. “Sparks Fly” when taste buds are ignited by one mind-blowing bite of Sparks BBQ, slowly grilled to ultimate perfection by the passionate and self-taught Grill Master Dean Sparks. The menu has expanded too, so if you already drooled over Dean’s enticing pulled BBQ Pork Sundae, pork layered in a cup with crispy creamy coleslaw and grandma’s pit-roasted beans drizzled in hot sauce, you have more to lust over. The hit of the summer was Pitmaster Mac-n-cheese. Dean, with a Master’s Degree in Architecture, was a stay-at-home dad busy perfecting his craft as a skilled killer griller. The BBQ BUG bit him hard enough to Fire the Flame of Desire, inspiring him to take the show on the road with his now infamous Sparks BBQ Food Truck. He shared with the masses his marvelous menu of Michigan Hardwood Smoked and Fired Pulled Pork, Chicken, Robust Ribs and a Bodacious Beef Brisket all topped off with his crowning glory of Beef Jerky. While many traditions come and go, one that remains steadfast is the release of Beaujolais Nouveau. What is this you ask, well this is the first wine released from the current harvest from Beaujolais France. This is a global celebration of wine and festivities all focused around Nouveau and the end of yet another vintage in France. Nouveau wine is made from the Gammay grape, also grown in Northern Michigan, and sees very little time after it’s fermentation before getting bottled. The result is a very “fresh-fruity” wine showing the promise of other wines produced from that vintage. Here is the fun part, Beaujolais Nouveau Day is the Third Thursday in November, so there is a global race for the wineries of Beaujolais France to get there wines delivered in a timely fashion. So as we get closer to the end of November, mark your calendars for the third Thursday, and keep your eyes open for labels such as; George Dubeouf, Antonin Rodet & Joseph Drouhin to name just few. Our Baylife Super- Mom Jala on the outside seems to have perfected time for kids and time to still look great, so we thought we would ask her to share her secrets. "I have a fairly strict - early to bed routine. Generally, after dinner (usually no later than 5:30-6pm) we play for a bit, then we’ll wind it down with baths / showers, hair braiding and laying out clothes for the morning. Then bedtime stories made up, or books. Hugs and millions of kisses and then lights out 7:45-8pm at the latest. Then it’s time for me to start prepping for the morning. Routine is KEY. Each of us has our own space to keep all of our gear in a locker system! This has saved me. It’s also taught the kids to stay somewhat organized. For a smooth transition in the mornings, plan

ahead. I love to cook so I often prepare a quiche and potatoes the night before. It's a healthy alternative to a cereal, or oatmeal. Smoothies and Granola are a quick healthy on-the- go breakfast. Lunches are always prepped the night before to curb any bickering. Once the kids are all at school, I usually grab a cup of Coffee from Blk Market, then head into Modus45 to either teach a class or take one. Or I’ll meet friends on the water for a killer Paddle Boarding workout or go for a run. It’s a must for me to get a workout in everyday. After I take care of me, when I’m not working, I tackle my list of things to do; grocery shopping, returning e-mails, cleaning the house, laundry, and the list can go on. I chip away at everything until I feel caught up. Don’t beat yourself up if you don't get everything done or mornings don't go smooth. I’m learning that Siblings are going to bicker no matter what, teenagers are going to have emotional meltdowns, shoes may get thrown, kicking and screaming can happen on any given day. The important thing is to Breathe. Embrace the chaos that may or may not happen. Plan as much as you can and enjoy the awesome ride. It goes by way too fast. "

Executive Director Big Brothers Big Sisters NM What does Big Brothers Big Sisters mean to you? Giving kids hope. It means a child facing tough challenges (most of us cannot even fathom) begins to realize he has a choice. He graduates high school or even goes on to college. Our volunteers make this happen, and our donors provide the framework. It always amazes me how often our mentors will say, “I get more out of this relationship than (the child)”. How can the community help your organization? Volunteer to be a Mentor and/or Donate Money. Mentors and Money, that’s what I always tell people. Mentoring takes an hour a week and it makes a BIG difference. When a child sees you coming back week after week he starts to trust you. It’s the consistent contact, and the ‘not giving up’ that makes the difference. Who’s your hero? My hero is my mom – she died tragically when I was 30. It was the worst day of my life. My mom had a very quiet and unassuming way about her. She managed to run a tight ship, raising 10 children who all became strong and independent people and who adored her. She had a contagious laugh and always made you feel special. I honestly cannot imagine how she managed it all. Can you imagine making dinner for 12 people every day? What words of wisdom do you live by? Be the reason someone smiles today! I don’t remember where I heard that, but I just love it. Are you a TC native? I grew up in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, my husband Mike and I met when I was living in Chicago in 1982. We decided we didn’t want to raise a family in Chicago, and he brought me to this cute little town where he and his family used to vacation. I fell in love with Traverse City instantly. What’s one Northern Michigan staple you couldn’t live without? That’s easy, Great Lakes Potato Chips. What is something that your kids would tell us about you? Oh my gosh…this is kind of scary! We laugh a lot – they would tell you I make them laugh a lot and it’s not because I’m trying. What is one thing checked off on your bucket list? Seeing the Green Bay Packers beat the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field

I have been with Goodwill in different communities throughout the country for the past 18 years from DC and Honolulu to Midwestern communities of South Bend, Grand Rapids, and Adrian. It has been an amazing journey and fortunate to have the opportunity to continuing serving in Traverse City. What is the most rewarding part of your job? When we are able to restore hope in people, grow their confidence, and expand what they thought was possible. What is something about Goodwill that would pleasantly surprise people? That a simple clothing donation can have a ripple effect throughout the community! Our stores are our means to create the opportunities for job training, safe and stable housing, and increasing access to nutrient dense foods. Your family just moved to TC from Adrian MI., what’s been the biggest hit so far? Being outside! We live close to town and have walked or biked to grocery stores, restaurants, the library, the beach, church service, and the TART trail! What experiences are on the family “to do” list for living Up North? Kayacking! Okay that may just be mine. For the family it would be to see a play at the Old Towne Playhouse and camping on Manitou Island. As soon as we get done unpacking…. Do you have any special quotes or words of wisdom you live by? Everyone should have the opportunity to discover and develop their full potential. That has been my “true north” and one that keeps me grounded when the world gets complicated. What is something that your kids would tell us about you? I wasn’t sure what they would say, so my wife asked them. My youngest said, “Dad is almost like a superhero! and my oldest said “He is the most awesomest Dad!” What is one thing checked off on your bucket list? Finally hiking and kayaking in the UP at Picture Rock! I met a friend up there earlier this summer and it was great!

We were lucky to be wined and dined personally by Richard Hamper, the Food and Beverage Director himself and it’s a one of a kind evening we will never forget. With every scrumptious expectation over exceeded and then some. Richard (Rich) is a Sutton’s Bay native who’s culinary journey is a “wow” all in it of itself. His impressive resume involves working for The Ritz Carlton and Fairmont Hotels; he has met Julia Childs and even sang with Rod Stewart. The man adores and knows his food, boasting a personal collection of over 1000 cookbooks. Mouthwatering food in all its glory is his passion; an empty plate is his canvas. He was lured here from Vegas with bait that he could pursue his love and dedication for food and finally come back home to Northern Michigan. Rich’s task was to bring that expertise to the casino’s food and
infuse the wow factor. He didn’t disappoint. “We tackled the food before we tackled the cosmetic,” explains Rich. “The restaurant’s food was old school steakhouse, just ordinary. We have taken classic concepts, modernized and refreshed the menu. The Chef uses imagination and taste exemplifying the intensity of flavors. The foodie level is at the very top. It is all about quality but this is still a steakhouse, the portions are also about quantity.” Just recently they packed the one two punch, finally completing the cosmetic remodel of Bourbons 72. They drew inspiration from the finest steakhouses in Chicago and New York, from the newest most modern to old world. After story boards were created Rich’s vision was perfectly reflected and the finished restaurant is visually stunning. “Sexy,” as Rich like to call it. “It’s the sexiest restaurant in the area with out of this world food,” beams Rich. There is no arguing his expert opinion. The striking bar lounge shines a vivid amber hue
from the many exotic bottles of Bourbon that grace the bars back wall. The lounge serves small plates which can be paired with a divine glass of the finest premium wine, thanks to a wine preservation system named Cruvente. If that’s not fancy enough experience a Bourbon Tasting Flight choosing three 1/2 oz. pours from a magnificent selection of over 72 on the tiered menu. The presentation alone is simply dazzling with three Glen Karon glasses siting inside an authentic barrel strip. Opposite the bar lounge is an elegant private dining area that seats 12 and a spectacular wall of wine greets you on the way to the modern dining room, this is where Rich is “Bringing Sexy Back!” The overall ambiance is sophisticated and ravishing; the platinum-tufted leather booths scream vintage Vegas and ooze romance to cozy up for a smokin’ red hot date alert. They are sexy and they know it! Along the far side sits an epic Show Kitchen with a Chef’s table seating up to
six guests, where they also plan to host many exclusive Chef Dinners. We can look forward to experiencing this in fall. We said dinner, so Excelsior! Onward and upward tempting your taste buds for a serious case of Food Envy, (as Rich himself likes to call it). Quite frankly the menu was one of the hardest I’ve ever laid my hungry eyes upon. Literally every single item listed with its lavish and truly unique preparation gave me lingering visions of cuisine themed desire and fantasy. Lucky for us we had Rich’s proficiency and skill. The options were endless and as he guided us his pure deep love for food sang like a melodic tune as he recited each flavor bursting ingredient, partnered with executive chef terminology. “I want to bring back the fun,” explains Rich. He certainly has! Highlights on the small plates and appetizers include Heavens Drums; Three Asian BBQ inside-out chicken drumsticks with ginger-scallion pork stuffing, oyster hoisin sauce and fried

wontons. Camarones Culiacan; Three colossal shrimp, fire roasted jalapeno’s and pepper jack cheese wrapped in Max Bauers “back room” bacon with velvety pepper jack cream. Last but certainly not least is the Shanghai Spicy Calamari, Maryland Lump Crab Cakes and Oysters Rockefeller that will make even the most staunch food critic’s mouth water. The roller coaster of emotions and incredible challenges they face on a daily basis is mind blowing. Still managing to smile bright, being not only an amazing mom but also an inspiring role model. Recently we were introduced to a non-profit organization, Single MOMM, that helps local moms in the Grand Traverse area. We are all moms that can easily relate so we felt compelled to shine a light on their quest to provide hope, healing and confidence to single moms across the area. The organization is founded by single mom Jennifer Finnegan Pool. Her mission for the last eight years has been to offer support through hosting event nights, mentorship and the ultimate reVIVE course. These vital tools help gain strength, purpose and direction as they lead their families forward. Single MOMM will be holding their 2nd annual fundraiser, Blue Jeans & Pearls September 27th from 6:30-8:00pm. Mother of 4 “6 ½ years ago I became a single mom while pregnant with our fourth child and it sent me on a crazy whirlwind ride of anxiety and stress. When I lost my mother last year everything came to a head as I felt a loneliness I had never experienced before and a sense of failure and anger.

What I got changed my life – the chaotic life filled with grief, financial stress, lack of personal boundaries, and the belief that I was not more than my past left. reVIVE gave me the strength, tools, and support to take back my life and to build one that was not only functional but flourishing!

n Mackinac Island, time has been preserved. Horse and carriages are the main mode of public transportation. Noisy car engines are banned, and the only other wheels to be found are on the thousands of bicycles that dominate the meandering roads. Each summer brings throngs of visitors, but the real magic of its breathtaking charm takes place in September and October when nature goes all out with a bang. Getting Around: Get on your bike! The Island is eight miles in circumference, and is a biker’s paradise. Take a Horse and Carriage tour through Mackinac State Park, offering narrated tours through downtown to Surrey Hills, Arch Rock, Fort Mackinac, and Grand Hotel. If you want to really ride in style, rent your own private carriage, and see all this Enchanted Island has to offer. Taxi services are also available to get you from A to B. Last, but not least enjoy the views, while strolling around the historical landscape. Wheelchairs and electric scooters are also available to rent, for disabled visitors to still enjoy all the fun, and festivities.

Staying There: Grand Hotel When you envision Mackinac Island, what comes to mind first? Most likely it’s fantasizing about a luxurious stay at Grand Hotel. They have masterfully been exceeding expectations for over 125 years. This majestic Victorian era hotel is a must for everyone’s once in a lifetime, “Bucket List.” It is elegant, opulent, noble, stately, and Pure Michigan Grand. We were fortunate to enough stay there, (it was on my husband’s bucket list too). We also received a personal tour by Bob Tagatz, the historian at Grand Hotel for over 20 years, making it an experience to always remember. Just arriving to the hotel is an occasion. Exclusive Grand Hotel Horse and Carriages, with drivers clad in all their pomp and circumstance, transport you high up the imposing hill. The journey ends at the marvelous entrance of the 167 acre property. It is indeed a portal to a timeless era of palatial properness, and luxuriousness. As much as the surroundings and ambiance are highly dramatic, there are whimsical and charming elements as well. The most prevalent, are the 16 bold custom décor colors, paired with famed Dorothy Draper signature design elements. It houses 390 rooms, and is classed as a seasonal resort hotel, open from the end of April through October. It is one of only eleven Victorian wood framed hotels left standing, built in 1887 to accommodate the Movers and Shakers of the Upper 40

Class. As transportation evolved through railroads, and steamboats it became a destination for the rich, and famous. Its huge success is in its ability to constantly evolve through 2 World Wars, Prohibition, and The Great Depression. It has remained family owned since 1933. Four generations of the Musser Family have grown up here on the world’s largest front porch at 660 feet long, housing 100 striking white rocking chairs.
Grand Hotel Fun Facts The Hotel was built with Michigan White Pine in 93 days. Workers dragged logs over the ice, and were paid double for it. They worked 3 shifts a day by candle light, with heat from the fires of scrap lumber to keep them warm. Grand Hotel opened July 10th in 1887, back then the original rates were $3 to $5 a night. Originally the Hotel was named Plank Grand Hotel after John Oliver Plank its original founder. During Prohibition there was never a dry day, hard liquor was stored in secret hiding spots. The front porch is 660 ft. long, and overlooks the Straits of Mackinac, and the “Mighty Mac Bridge.” The 4th generation Musser family has owned it since 1933. Thyme Spice Up to
your kitchen!
For me, I welcome the fall and winter months as an opportunity to get back into the kitchen. Especially with the warm summer we just experienced, cooking in a hot kitchen is not always how I spend my summer evenings. But with the return of the cooler weather, in addition to all of the bounty to be harvested from my garden, cooking, canning and entertaining friends become my favorite ways to pass the time. The greatest secret to preparing delicious dishes is the right combination of flavors, mostly generated from the spices we use on our food. As a kitchen designer, every kitchen design has considerations for “easy to access and see� the spices we use for every day cooking. My favorite approach is the tiered spice rack that allows you to lay your spices in a drawer so that the labels are easy to read. Take it one step further and alphabetize them and you will never look through multiple jars to find the exact one you need. For spices that I use frequently and in large quantities, I buy refillable jars to keep in the drawer and right at hand during the prep and cooking process. Other options include a rack that hangs on the inside of an upper cabinet or a pullout that will also hold specialty oils and vinegars. Winter does not need to mean access to fresh herbs is limited. I am fortunate enough that my kitchen windows face south, so pot up some basil, thyme and rosemary and with the right care, you can continue to have fresh herbs throughout the winter months. Having fresh herbs on hand for cocktails is also a very nice touch when entertaining guest. Muddle some basil vs mint in rum or vodka for a different twist on a traditional mixed drink. So welcome fall and winter as a way to return to the simpler pleasures of life, like a delicious home cooked meal with friends and family on a Saturday evening.

The Orth Family
f you’ve lived in the northern Michigan area for over ten years, you may recall the special occasion restaurant, Windows. It was nestled on a spectacular nook on M-22 between Traverse City and Suttons Bay with a captivating waterfront view stretching all the way to Power Island. For many moons it was the place to celebrate life’s big and little moments. After its glory days had come and gone the place sat in foreclosure, bank owned and empty for over three years. It had become the local dumping ground, drop off and turn around spot. It was in sad disarray, but Traverse City native Adam Orth always thought it would make a great project. He and then girlfriend, Sarah Harrelson, were looking for property and couldn’t seem to find the right fit. On a roadtrip to Florida, they still followed the local real estate offerings when they saw it pop up. It was for a price they just couldn’t pass on and spent the rest of their vacation on the phone with their realtor to make it their own.
When the contract was accepted they would soon be the proud owners of a tired run down building on two lots with 347 feet of water frontage. Now what? FALL 2016 | BAY LIFE NORTH

Well there is that crafty old saying, be careful what you wish for, right? They didn’t know if they should try and just flip it, learning a lot very quickly about zoning laws. The location was zoned residential and deemed a non-conforming lot. They also had to be schooled on commercial taxes versus residential and abide by a strict certification of occupancy by a future determined date. The couple still took it all in stride with the confidence that they had made a smart move. Adam had started his landscaping business, AMO Outdoor Services, at the ripe old age of fourteen, so not much fazed him on taking a bold risk and working hard towards a major goal in sight. Besides, the romance of such a breathtaking water view is mesmerizing. Especially when it actually overlooks the exact West Grand Traverse Bay spot that Adam and Sarah had first met on a boat back in 2007. They came back from Florida with a purpose, rolled up their sleeves and dug right in. 56

Building Family Dreams One Custom Home At A Time
“It was in bad shape and we took it down layer by layer,” explained Sarah. They peeled back seven layers of flooring in the kitchen. The west wall had a hidden 1970’s yellow stained glass that didn’t look out anywhere. The walls in the basement had never been poured. “It had just been kept covering over,” says Sarah. As much as they could salvage and repurpose along the way they did. It finally became painfully obvious that the structure itself wasn’t worth trying to remodel. “It has been a work in progress” says Sarah.

In order to stay grandfathered in by the coveted waterfront it sat on, they had to stay exactly on the original footprint of the fifty foot by fifty foot square. What you don’t think about is the dumping grounds that had built up for three years. “The whole hillside was trash, rusty old ovens, refrigerators and air conditioner units,” explained Sarah. “The first thing to do was retaining walls and it used most of our liquid funds.” To add more complications to an already big project, as soon as they began the economy tanked. Adam’s outdoor business had taken a huge hit. “He had AMO employee’s that he felt so loyal to, so even though they had no landscaping work, many had skills to help with the house so Adam could still keep them employed,” said Sarah. “The cool part about it was, people that were unemployed from the building industry just came by and ask if we needed help.” Bigger things like framing and drywall they contracted out to the experts. unique design of the house was done by both Sarah and Adam, “we designed the whole house on a piece of printer paper,” laughs Sarah. The finished home is modern with a very easy breezy open floor plan that maximizes the breathtaking view from every angle. The heated floors are strand woven carbonized bamboo. They are silky smooth to the touch with a unique textured pattern that adds dimension to the vast open space. The bamboo flooring is a green eco friendly product Sarah found and just had to have. Elements of the bamboo are also found around the house on the stairs and a beam high in the open ceiling, adding a touch of warmth to the contemporary design. The chic urban staircase with its shiny stainless steel cable railings continues outside on the spacious deck, allowing the crystal blue view to always be in focus. On a fun note, they received a quote of over $50,000 to complete it. Instead, Adam’s dad installed and welded it for a much reduced price of $7,000.
Their kitchen truly is the heart of the home, sitting right in the middle of everything.

Early in the planning Sarah fell in love with the striking granite color Bianco Antico. She built everything else around it.
“We knew we wanted dark cabinets so it worked well.” The kitchen also has prime viewing area of the bay and it’s a blessing because Sarah spends all day in it. “I love my kitchen. I do nutrition counselling so I prep and spend a lot of time in it. Plus I have three kids,” laughs Sarah. Yep, you heard right, three kids, two girls and an adorable baby boy who just turned a year in July. As well as their building project they seem to have been adding to the baby population. In their defense they do make really cute ones. Back in 2009 at the start of the house, another little hiccup interrupted their project. Just a few months in, surprise, they were expecting their first baby, daughter Cora who is now six. The house

they built will forever contain treasured memories for generations. Sarah and Adam not only built their dream house, they tied the knot here too. Right on the beach with fifty chairs sitting in the white sand. This is a big deal to recall for Sarah because the water is so high right now, their beachfront has shrunk. Wedded bliss and a happy home made it easy to joyfully add to their family with daughter Kiah and son Easton. We’re sure you’ve driven by a hundred times wondering about who lives in that big stucco home and what does it look like on the inside?
It’s a beautiful family, born and raised here, who love their life. They work hard and play hard. They have a passion for being by the water, in the water and on the water. Just like the day Adam and Sarah first met boating on West Grand Traverse Bay, where their love story began. Now every evening is spent reading a book to their children overlooking the very same spot. 62
