Abstracts Agnieszka Andrychowicz-Trojanowska From Textbook to One’s Own Didactic Materials – Why to Prepare Them in a Different Way The article is aimed at presenting a short characteristics of visual attention of (non)dyslexic people and its consequence for the way (non)dyslexic school students work with textbook material. As a consequence, the importance of proper textbook design will be shown on the basis of the eye-tracking research. Also, some simple hints on how to prepare better-designed materials will be given. The article is based on the book “Podręczniki glottodydaktyczne. Struktura – funkcja – potencjał w świetle badań okulograficznych” by the author. Key words: eye tracking, textbook, dyslexia, didactic materials Sandra Cieśla Ms. Zmylka Teaches English… Activating primary learners to communicate in English as a foreign language is a challenge for most teachers. How to encourage children to speak English? The article is an attempt to answer this question with the use of “Ms. Zmylka” who creates funny and friendly environment, as well stress eliminating game situations. The article presents the Ms. Zmylka method and its practical applications’ to teaching primary children. The author refers to method such as Total Physical Response (TPR). The idea of TPR in a nutshell is to create a neural link between speech and action. The intention of the presented procedure was to emphasize the necessity of repeating vocabulary and returning to them regularly during the semester to check retention, as well as to present some useful techniques of supporting primary learners in dealing with their shyness and insecurity. Key words: TPR, Total Physical Response, primary learners, teaching EFL to primary children Urszula Janczar How to Build Learners’ Autonomy – Logbook as a Tool for Supporting Autonomy Developing learners’ autonomy is a must for every teacher and student. An autonomous student is motivated, aware of their most suitable learning strategies and ready to take control over one’s own learning process. To build, develop and sustain an autonomous approach among the students can be a difficult task for teachers. The article provides the definition of autonomy and its benefits for the students. Most importantly, it gives practical hints for teachers who want to develop autonomy among their students but are still looking for the most applicable tool. The author of the article provides the description of logbooks and their usage in developing learners’ autonomy on the basis of the study conducted among high school students. Key words: autonomy, logbooks, motivation, self-regulation, reflection Beata Jędryka Good Start for Students with Migration Experience The article deals with issues related to the language education of students with the experience of migration in a Polish school. The author briefly describes Polish as the language of school education and the language needs of Ukrainian students entering the Polish education system. She presents not only the original project of intensive language training but also its program with grammar, lexical and culture components.
