Abstract The ability to acquire language competence in foreign language learning is determined by a number of individual and social factors. The issues of linguistic abilities, motivation and students’ individual personality traits deserve special attention. The Teaching English in Poland (TEIP) program provides opportunities for immersion in language, creating optimal conditions for acquiring not only knowledge, but also language skills. Among other things, this is achieved by going beyond the formula of a traditional lesson, stimulating interest in the subject matter of workshops, shortening the distance between educator and student as well as creating an atmosphere free of rigid structures, devoid of the element of assessment.
