ADVERTORIAL

Reybanpac seeks to open new markets and affirms its commitment to sustainability

For over 40 years, Reybanpac, producer of Favorita brand bananas, has been consistently expanding its markets. Its story began in 1977 with its founder’s ambition to pioneer Ecuadorean banana exports into new untapped markets such as Russia and China.

Currently, Reybanpac is the second largest exporter in Ecuador, shipping around 28m boxes per year to 15 countries on five continents. Its main markets are the European Union, Russia, the Middle East and Asia.

In the words of Mónica Molineros, international business manager, an important part of the company’s success lies in its diversification strategy.

“We have consistently worked on opening new markets. We have a great capacity in terms of volume and infrastructure to meet the various specifications of our clients according to the preference of the consumers,” she says. “A differentiating advantage is our flexibility in handling special packaging and the alternative of offering our clients their own brands.”

Reybanpac has 7,000ha of own production located in the most fertile region of Ecuador. The country’s excellent climate conditions allow the fruit to be produced throughout the year, as well as a more homogeneous ripening process, which translates into better quality and a long green life.

“Our farms have national and international certification programmes, which guarantee the quality of our fruit as well as our social, labour and environmental responsibility. We have optimal control in the management of our supply chain and we focus on efficiency and traceability to ensure transparency and compliance with delivery programmes.” says Molineros.

In recent years the company has made significant investments as part of its development plan. Hugo Carrillo, Reybanpac’s general manager affirms that: “our objective is to implement processes to improve sustainability, efficiency and productivity”.

“We work with precision agriculture to guarantee optimal resource management and minimise environmental impact. Among our focal points is the reduction in water consumption, optimising the use of fertilisers, circular economy and carbon neutrality,” he explains.

“The latter is an achievement that we are close to reaching. We are currently finalising an audit process in which an assessment of the entire production process is done, from cultivation to the port of loading. Soon we will be glad to announce our bananas are carbon neutral.”

In 2021, Reybanpac seeks to strengthen its commercial relationships, position itself in the most demanding markets and expand its business to new destination countries. _
