Editor’s Letter Honestly, I wasn’t sure I could pull this off in less than three months, but here we are. FRUK Magazine is born! This ROYAL issue is the birth of FRUK Magazine's first ever print and digital edition. For those who did not know, Fashion Rocker UK, FRUK started as an inspirational platform packed with fashion, beauty, culture, celebrity style and exclusive features. I wanted to create a platform for everything that rocked as well as celebrate the most cutting edge individuals and brands. Well, FRUK has come a long way since it’s premature stages. We are not just about celebs and what they are wearing, we want to focus on You and how you are styling up the trends. Be your consistent source of inspiration and bring you the best content. We have not only developed our site for this but also transformed into a cool magazine that will be documenting everything from fashion, beauty, interviews and much more. And for this I am forever grateful to my family and team that stood by me to pull this off. Talk about sleepless nights and tears. Praying hard to meet the deadline and actually having the right amount of content. I could go on and on, but we made it guys. All I can say is, with God all things are possible and you can do anything you set your mind to; with hard-work, persistence and consistency. We are here to encourage individuality and creativity. Be Inspired! Elizabeth Ajomale, Editor in Chief Tweet me @eajomale

The Designers Steering Their Own Reins in Fashion Following on from GFW not that long ago to LFW looming close we thought we’d catch up with none other than emerging designers Rebecca and Gemma of the fashion label REIN. From how they began, what happened in between to what they are getting up to now. To say their fashion lives have been an exciting whirlwind would be an understatement – but who better to tell us of the experience than the ladies themselves.
42
FRUKMAGAZINE.COM
Designer Spotlight Tell us a bit about your background and the story behind your label? We (Rebecca and Gemma) met whilst studying at London College of Fashion, graduating in 2013 and presenting our debut collection (all black, leathers, grids, fringing!) at the press show. We were lucky - The collection garnered a great amount of interest with celebs like Lady Gaga and Eve being amongst the first to wear the collection, and magazines such as TUSH and Wonderland featuring. Rebecca: I remember receiving an email from Lady Gaga’s Stylist shortly after the show asking to borrow the collection for her iTunes festival tour and the next day there I was sitting in the lobby of the Langham Hotel waiting with a very full suitcase! Gemma: We had both spent our university placement years in the industry, myself in product development at Christopher Raeburn and Rebecca in Design at Alexander Wang, and after graduating we went onto full time positions in those areas within London based brands, myself at Preen and Rebecca at Pinghe. We didn’t want to give up working together following this vision we had begun to create, so we spent evenings, weekends, basically all the free time we had! Just pattern cutting, making, designing and working on the next collection! Rebecca: The press and buzz that we had generated really encouraged us to keep going. We are both tough, independent feminist women which is a very important side of REIN and we wanted to continue exploring; this relationship with body and clothing, gender equality, how the body looks/ should look, how society views the body- its obsessions and especially the difference between men and womens bodies and why we are so conscious of image - how we ‘should’ look, and most of all why it all matters. We want to create clothing that empowers and crushes those sexist gender boundaries, armour women to feel great about themselves. When it came round to the second collection, The British Fashion

Designer Spotlight Council offered us a spot to showcase at London Fashion Week February 2015. This was that ‘oh shit!’ moment for us - that moment when you think, right... so how do we continue working full time for respective fashion houses but ask for 5 days off over Fashion week.... Somehow make the entire collection....shoot the entire collection...prepare for LFW !?? Gemma: Basically that point where you HAVE to make a choice! Luckily it was an easy one, we both wanted to have our own brand eventually and now had come the time to just do it! So we quit our jobs end of January this year and spent the next three weeks leading to LFW making all the samples (Luckily we had done all the sketches/patterns/fabrics)! Rebecca: And here we are - just launched in the USA with a store called Nineteenth Amendment, about to launch in China in the next couple of months, created the first interactive virtual showroom for our exclusive Resort collection, made bespoke costumes for immersive theatre company RIFT - and FINALLY are now on the lead up to our next collection! That sounds like an amazing jump; how was your LFW debut? We quit our jobs on the 31st January and with three weeks until LFW made the entire collection, did the lookbook shoot and prepared for our showcase! It was an intense couple of weeks, but we were lucky enough to have amazing friends to help us out. The showrooms were great exposure and we met with many incredible individuals. At one point the boys from boy band ‘Rough Copy’ came round, so we had a fun try-on session with them! Okay so tell us why the name REIN? It’s short, subtle and empowering. Reins are control mechanisms - our woman steers is her own reins What inspires your designs in general and what was the inspiration behind your latest collection?

FRUKMAGAZINE.COM
Designer Spotlight “It’s short, subtle and empowering. Reins are control mechanisms - our woman steers is her own reins.” Ultimately REIN is a celebration of the female form, inspired by and for women. Focusing on the body as a medium; the brand explores the relationship between body and clothing, revealing and concealing, a play upon the socially acceptable. Gemma: Our last collection (AW15) is inspired by an amalgamation of chaos, unchallenged intricacy and beautiful fascination of the Far East. Rebecca: It was a trip I took to India that really sparked this collection; A contrast of hallucinogenic layers building upon one another to create and distort the tattoo-like body map designs, creating a Joan of Arc heroine, a strong, powerful woman, covered from head to toe in armour that is interpreted through the tattoo-like formations. We contrasted this with the outer, heavier winter layers to the outfits, emphasising her trapped, restricted self. The collection, therefore portrays a contrasting sense of virginal, untouched purity, via layered garments that ultimately conceal the body, yet the extremely fitted nature of the pieces generate a deeply seductive and enticing result. I love how black and moody your collections have been so far; how would you describe the REIN woman? INDIVIDUAL: Strong, fearless and empowered How are you finding the industry and have you found a voice of your own within it?
London is an incredible city to be in for starting and developing a fashion brand. The city itself is full of inspiring, diverse and interesting people which means it is more open and willing to embrace an emerging brand, everyone here wants the original, the unique, the eccentric. Also - never before has an emerging brand had such potential to reach its customers - with the noisiness of social media, we are lucky to have this direct access and incredible exposure tool at our fingertips! Our voice celebrates and empowers women. I don’t think it is as simple as finding a voice, rather having a meaningful vision worth pursuing and always striving to better it. Do you tend to scope out the competition, or are you so tailored in your aesthetic that it isn’t necessary? One must always be aware of its competitors and what is happening within the industry, being one step ahead. However, remaining true to the ultimate vision is key - and bearing in mind that you can’t please everyone! Will we be seeing you at this season’s fashion week? YES! We will be showcasing again in the designer showrooms AND holding our own presentation as well... Any celeb clients/fans so far? Lady Gaga, Charlie XCX, Cheryl Cole, EVE, Little Mix, Alexandra Burke to name a few! And who would you like to dress in the future? Rooney Mara, Tilda Swinton, Carey Mulligan, Meryl Streep Who would your dream stockists be? Dover Street Market What’s on the cards for REIN in the next few months/2016? Now that would be telling! Follow our Instagram for sneaky previews. — Mpona Lebajoa

We have selected some of the best fragrances; characterised by their instant captivating charm. From sharp fresh fruity smells to floral notes. Timeless symbol of beauty and femininity, Rose de Grasse is meticulously crafted with an artisanal attention to detail. At its heart is a fusion of roses including the hundred-petaled Rose Centifolia, hand-picked in Grasse, the French capital of perfumery since the 16th century, Miss Dior fragrance on the other hand is created for an “elegant and spirited young woman in love”. Romantic by nature, Miss Dior inspires an intense and playful love, for which she is also searching. She personifies the spontaneous joie de vivre of today’s young women, representing a particular type of freedom and seduction. INTRODUCING JODY BROCK
Jody Brock was born and raised in South West London, started singing from an early age and was very inspired by his father’s music collection. He was mesmerised by the likes of David Bowie, Donny Hathaway, Etta James, James Brown and Nina Simone. “Because my dad was so involved in music it made me want to explore it even more, which is when I found my love for soul music” says Jody. “I built my foundations from the classics, but I was still just a kid so I was also influenced by albums like ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’ and ‘Stripped’ by Christina Aguilera. Most of all I just related to anything that had some form of soul and honesty to it.” We caught up with the sensational singer to know a little more.
86
MUSIC
Let’s start from the beginning who is Jody Brock? I’m a 22 year old singer songwriter from South London, I’m pretty ordinary really. My two passions in life are burgers and music. When did you start making music? For as long as I can remember really but I suppose I’ve only really been taking it seriously within these past four years. How would you describe your music? I grew up on all the old classics like Donny Hathaway and Nina Simone so soul has always been so prominent within what I do, I love experimenting with different sounds but the heart and core of what I do is definitely soul based. Besides making music what does Jody love doing? Just enjoying life, music is a tough business and can really take a lot of you and requires a lot of sacrifice so I suppose whenever I get the chance to be reckless and have a good time I take it with both hands. How would you describe your style? I don’t think I have a set style I try to ignore whats in and whats not so if I like it I’ll wear it. I love finding brands that I’ve never heard of before and keeping them to myself. What would Jody be caught wearing on a chilled out day at the studio? I’m all about hats, I could justify a hat for all occasions so typically if I’m in the studio I’ll be rocking a cap or a beanie wearing comfortable clothes so that could be ripped jeans, converse and a flannel shirt. I’m into a lot of longline things at the minute, that’s my current phase. I also love to add a ring or two. What inspires you when writing new lyrics?
It’s important for me to stay in the moment and draw on what is inspiring me there and then, I find it hard to write with no inspiration. Anything that has a real effect on me, I tend to draw from that. What do you think of the British music scene right now? It has it’s ups and downs, we have some great talent really flying the British flag for us right now and we have some not so great talent but in general I’d say we’re doing pretty good right now. What artists inspire you the most, in and out of the UK? I’m loving Mark Ronsons ‘Uptown Special’, the musicianship on that album is insane, and of course Bruno Mars is a huge inspiration of mine from his music to his live shows. I will always tend to go back to the old classics though, Etta James would be a first choice for me. What are your main goals as an artist? To stay authentic and to continue trusting my gut where ever that will
lead me, there is a lot of pressure in this industry to succeed and you have to stay hungry for it, you have good days and you have bad but if you trust your gut you always end up on the right path. I just want to have fun and make some great music in the process. If you could be anywhere doing anything with anyone, what who and where would it be?
you’ve had in your career so far? I’ve been very blessed even in these early stages of my career I spend a lot of time in LA writing and recording and as a simple guy from South London I’d definitely count that as surreal. Last year my song ‘Stormy Weather’ was used on a commercial on ABC to promote one of their shows and to see my song played on a station like that was incredible.
I would be back in St Lucia, I was there last year with my family. My brother lives in Chicago so it was amazing to spend that family time together in such a beautiful place.
If you could collaborate with anyone dead or alive, who would it be?
What in your opinion makes good music today?
What is the next 5 year plan?
As cliche as it sounds good music to me is honest music; music created without intent to profit. You have to love music to make good music.
I don’t really have one I just take everything as it comes, every year throws some sort of curve ball and has different upland downs so I just ride it out, work hard and hope for the best.
What is the most surreal experience
I think Jimi Hendrix and I could create something out of this world.

How To Win An Argument With Your Man
We’ve all been there, but sadly enough we haven’t always won the argument. As all women know, winning an argument with your man is of up-most importance. So ladies, here are some expert tips to ensure success.
Consider apologising Apologise if you are to blame/for your part. Get this in early so he feels more relaxed and open/sympathetic to your point of view. Rehearse your argument Think your points through before having the argument. Make sure they are valid, they need to be logical and to the point. You need to be concise in getting your message across, or you may find yourself in a corner, looking a fool.
Reflection If he is being unreasonable, there will be no winning for either of you. Instead of fighting a losing battle, let him sit and reflect for a while. Once he is calm you will be in a better position to be heard.
Plan your argument This may seem a tad cold, but really it is just math. You are aware there are issues that need to be resolved, and that inevitably this will build up until one of you hits breaking point and starts the row, Nip it in the bud by getting in there first. Plan an occasion when he is not stressed, make him a cup of tea, and request for him to sit with you. Your man will be much more receptive.
Speak softly and in a calm manner This always works wonders. Yes, it’s easy to lose your rag and scream when you and man are in the throws of an intense argument. But screaming and shouting doesn’t work, nothing gets resolved. (The only plus side is the passionate sex that can sometimes ensue afterwards. If it is however, an argument you wish to win, stay cool, calm and collected. Not only will you get your point across, but also you will win every time.
If all else fails, cry So you have done everything in the list, but your man won’t back down. If you find that your man is the most stubborn of all oxen, there is still one trick us ladies keep up our sleeve, and it works a treat. Put on the water works a little, and your man will feel immediately uncomfortable. Flawless Faults Thanks to Beyoncé every girl thinks she is flawless. I will like to want to be a classy girl with grace and poise with no experience of life or sex. Have Pierre as my boyfriend that travels around the world on business. Unfortunately, I am one inquisitive person.
So it’s really hard to keep a man being so multi-talented and all. You know the street, hood bad girl smart. I will love to do what our mothers did. These women literally had their shit together before 30. Now they are made women in their own rights. Playing with their grandkids, well some, because our generation is kinda slow on getting sh-t together before 30. So this got me thinking about the life challenge I have. With this generation interested in cars, money and those damn expensive apple products. Did I mention social media, well Instagram has taken over the world, but don’t be fooled by those damn fake perfect selfies. That’s another story, I’m no story teller. Miss the days I used to read about. Move from father’s house to husbands’ and build my own perfect hut. I will have you know that my little brain tells me, we have to do things differently and when we finally conquer we shall prevail. I have a purpose other than f–king millionaires so I am stuck pestering my pensioner single mother, that they haven’t given her pension mind you because some civil servant business man thinks it’s better to put her money in bonds for three years plus and acquire all the interest. Because let’s face it, for you, the best mattresses are made out of real cash right? — Precious X
