To be part of the Edison team is an honour and I aim to ensure the governance of the school is matched with doing the best for the children; within budget and providing a first class service to all parties. As Chair of Governors, I propose to lead a team which is professional and one that holds each other accountable to the highest standards. Jasbir Sihota, Chair of Governors

Vision & Core principles

“The science of today is the technology of tomorrow” - Edward Teller

At Edison our core purpose is to build on children’s curiosity, knowledge, confidence, enthusiasm and all-round abilities towards independent learning. We endeavour to help each individual child in their journey to grow into active, responsible and successful young adults who are able to make the choices

necessary to shape their own future. We are an open, welcoming school where efforts are valued, ambition is nurtured and where the potential of every child is realised.

High Expectations Our aim is for our pupils to make outstanding progress during their time at Edison, both academically and socially. We continually strive for excellence and achievement above national expectations. We encourage our pupils to persevere and face challenges with a positive “I can” attitude.

“The passion and dedication of every single person that is a part of Edison is noteworthy and has remained consistent” - Parent

“I love it when we have our lesson in the playground” - Child

Science Edison is the first Science Specialist School in West London. We want to pioneer a renewed focus on science. Our longer day, provides us with the opportunity to increase the time given to lessons that fall under the umbrella of science. This help pupils to develop an appreciation of Science being a part of their everyday

lives. The practical learning aspect of our vision enables pupils to cover the Science National Curriculum in greater depth. Time is also dedicated to other aspects of Science; Physical, Environment, Topical Science etc. right from the start in Reception.

“Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think” - Albert Einstein

Broad Curriculum Our curriculum is broad, balanced and extends beyond the classroom. It promotes meaningful learning and skills for life. An enquiry led and practical based curriculum encourages children to find solutions, promote collaborative learning and be active learners.

Strong parent partnership Parents and carers are encouraged to be fully involved in their child’s learning and in the life of the school. Our many years of experience in teaching, has shown us that children attach greater value and respect to their school life, when this is modelled by their parents and teachers.

Attendance If young people are to achieve their potential, good attendance and punctuality are critical. The link between attendance and achievement is well documented. An irregular attendance has a significant impact on children’s achievement. Absence can result in pupils falling behind with

Educational visits School trips and visits are an integral part of the education of children at Edison Primary. We value the opportunities such visits offer our pupils and the commitment of staff and adults undertaking them. Trips include class visits aimed at bringing learning alive and providing first-hand experience. Children in Years 4, 5 and 6 have the opportunity to take part in residential visits. These help to develop children’s confidence and independence as well as providing new and exciting experiences.

Visitors to school Visitors have a valuable role to play and can contribute to many aspects of the life and work of the school. They deliver talks, workshops and full day activities across a wide range of subjects, giving pupils access to outside experiences and expertise. Visitors provide a link with the wider community – children have the opportunity to work alongside artists, musicians, authors, health professions and others.

I am proud to be a part of a school where everyone is committed to providing a caring and supportive environment. It is important that all our children feel safe, secure and confident. Happy children learn best! We appreciate the need for school alleviating some of the time pressure on parents. Our wrap around care and range of clubs on site reduces the need for parents to source enrichment activities elsewhere. Suvir Rai, Deputy Head

“A positive for us is the friendly and caring staff, it is like a family environment.” - Parent

The school day We have a longer school day for all,

“My teacher is proud of me because I try my best” - Child

8:45am to 3:45pm Early Birds and Night Owl club Being aware of the needs of our school community at Edison Primary, parents and carers are able to leave their children in our care for longer than the school day. We offer before and after school provision, enabling children to be cared for at school from 8am until 5:45pm. This provision takes place every day on the premises.

Enrichment Activities A mixture of clubs and activities run most days. These sessions are led by Edison staff, qualified coaches and outside organisations. The activities are arranged based on the age range of children in our care. We encourage healthy eating at our clubs and during the school day.
