BRINGING OUT THE BEST

WELCOME

In February 2018 we moved into our new building with outstanding facilities which will support us in our aim to deliver a first-class education for all young people.

As a brand new school, Three Rivers Academy is at a very exciting time in its development.

Since joining The Howard Partnership Trust, we have benefitted in many areas from the Trust’s strategic direction and support to move the school forward. As a result, Three Rivers Academy is a school that maximises opportunities for young people to develop academically and socially in an environment that is stimulating, caring and supportive. My aim is for all students to flourish during their time at Three Rivers Academy by enjoying high-quality teaching, a challenging and robust curriculum and enrichment opportunities that will develop a love for learning both within and beyond the classroom. Our highly qualified, professional staff are dedicated to “bringing out the best” in all our students, enabling them to achieve more than they ever thought they could. This prospectus is designed to give the most relevant information for you whether you are looking for a secondary school place for your son or daughter, or you wish to find out more about us.

Mrs A-L Payne

I encourage all prospective parents to visit the school and meet our students and staff. We look forward to welcoming you and will be very proud to share with you our achievements to date and our exciting plans for the future.

OUR ETHOS, VISION AND VALUES Three Rivers Academy will excel at ‘bringing out the best’ in students of all abilities and so increase their life chances for their future success and fulfillment.

Learn, Flourish & Succeed 4

BRINGING OUT THE BEST

The challenges we set our students need to be personalised, whether in the classroom or in the enrichment we offer. We achieve this by setting challenging academic targets for all students and then working collaboratively with them and their families to ensure these targets are either met or exceeded. Students at Three Rivers Academy are taught by committed and dedicated staff. We have very high standards of teaching and ensure good practice is shared amongst staff to promote student progress. Independence and engagement in the classroom are priorities at Three Rivers Academy enabling students to flourish into successful, resilient learners. Students are encouraged to think independently, engage in teamwork and ask questions when faced with a problem. They are encouraged to embrace challenges and this approach to problem solving is aided by a culture of support and encouragement from staff. Creativity and ingenuity are important ingredients of success in the world we live in today and we expect all our students to achieve, not because we tell them what to think but because we teach them how to think. We believe that young people learn best when they are happy and motivated and as such we always ensure that we celebrate students’ achievements and reward their hard work.

I have been so impressed by the commitment of staff, they have gone above and beyond. The school is going from strength to strength. Parent We have some amazing teachers for my children who have gone above and beyond to assist them in their daily life at school. Parent

Nurture, Respect & Trust

SUPPORT AND INCLUSION At Three Rivers Academy we support all students in achieving their potential and to ‘bring out their best’.

We recognise the contributions that all students can make to the school and our Inclusion Faculty provides support and guidance for those students requiring extra support to maximise their potential. We are proud of our first-rate pastoral system, our staff are dedicated and trained to support students and nurture a positive learning environment. The quality of relationships between students and staff is a real strength of our school and we believe that building and maintaining these positive relationships is the foundation to every student feeling safe, happy and ready to learn. Students are arranged in peer tutor groups and assigned a form tutor who will become the first point of contact for any guidance or support that might be needed. Leading each year group team is a Year Leader who not only looks after the pastoral side of school life but also ensures that students are achieving their academic potential. In addition, a non-teaching Manager for each Key Stage is available to support parents and students throughout the school day. The House system remains a key part of school life at Three Rivers Academy and is responsible for the wider enrichment aspects such as sport, the Arts, charity and community and enterprise events. Competition between Houses is strong and each Head of House is committed to providing opportunities for all students and taking every opportunity to reward them and recognise their achievements.

CURRICULUM At Three Rivers Academy we aim to deliver a broad, balanced, high quality curriculum that provides a stimulating and challenging education for all students. A personalised experience is hugely important to us, both in terms of engagement and offering an appropriate level of challenge for all our students. Teachers ensure that the learning needs of all students are met within lessons, with provision made to extend and challenge the most able. Within each subject a wide variety of teaching styles are employed to deliver the curriculum effectively and to generate interest and enthusiasm among students. Where appropriate students may also receive additional support from the Head of Inclusion, Learning Support Assistants or Specialist Support Teachers.

During Key Stage 4 students follow courses leading to GCSE or equivalent qualifications. In pursuit of an individualised learning programme for all students, we aim to provide a flexible curriculum which allows them to vary the number and type of qualifications they follow. In addition to more traditional courses leading to GCSE qualifications, some students mix vocational courses with their GCSE choices and students have access to choices which allow them to gain the suite of subjects that make up the English Baccalaureate.

Enjoyment, Confidence & Resilience

EXTRAORDINARY LIFE EXPERIENCES AND COMMUNITY Whilst the academic achievement of our students is of key importance, we recognise that extra-curricular experiences develop all aspects of their character.

To equip our students for life beyond school we place a huge emphasis on developing well-rounded, responsible citizens and ensuring our students understand what it means to be part of a local and global community. The enrichment activities offered at Three Rivers Academy enable students to develop their existing interests and experience new opportunities including sports, the Arts, musical and dramatic performances, outdoor pursuits and many others. There is also the opportunity to build on the learning in lessons through after school support, Faculty trips and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) activities. We are very fortunate to have good links with local schools, businesses, faith groups and charities which enable our students to access a wide range of additional opportunities and to represent the school in the community as outstanding ambassadors. The impact on the local community also extends to the thousands of pounds raised annually for charity by student groups and the Sixth Form RAG week. Our aim is to give each student the opportunity to develop as a person, to learn beyond the classroom and to create opportunities to support our local community. Parents are also encouraged to be active in the school community, either by supporting PTA events, sharing and shaping the vision for the future of the school by joining the Parent Council, or by becoming a Governor.

SIXTH FORM We pride ourselves on providing a high quality post-16 learning experience with support to ensure students maximise their achievement. We aim to offer a broad and varied curriculum to meet the needs of a wide range of students. Students can choose to follow an A Level based or a vocational programme, both pathways offer progression to higher education or further training and it is possible for students to undertake a mixture of the two routes. To make sure that the courses chosen are right for the individual’s interests, skills and ambitions, our admissions process will support students in accessing an appropriate programme. The curriculum is enhanced through enrichment courses such as the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and a range of extracurricular activities. The Sports Academies offer an additional opportunity for students, where they can experience high quality coaching and participation in competitive youth leagues alongside their academic studies.

Aspire, Explore & Achieve SAFEGUARDING

The school has a proud tradition of providing excellent pastoral care and guidance. All students have a mentor who they see twice a day plus the support of Sixth Form leadership team. Staff use their shared knowledge and experience along with strong ties with universities and employers to help students achieve their goals and move on to the destinations they are aiming for. Students have access to their own Sixth Form centre in the new school with impressive dedicated study and social spaces, purpose built to meet their needs.

At Three Rivers Academy we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All adults who work with pupils are DBS checked. We follow Surrey Local Authority’s safeguarding procedures and where necessary work in partnership with other agencies that support children and families, to ensure we address the needs of our pupils with sensitivity, care and confidentiality.

THE HOWARD PARTNERSHIP TRUST

The Howard Partnership Trust (THPT) grew out of a long-standing federation, the first in Surrey, originally formed in 2007 at the request of the Department of Education and Surrey Local Authority. The success of this federation between Howard of Effingham, an Ofsted Outstanding school, and Thomas Knyvett College resulted in the formation of THPT when the partnership’s first primary school, Kenyngton Manor, joined in 2013. The Multi Academy Trust (MAT) now comprises a diverse range of primary and secondary schools across Surrey. All our schools uphold a shared vision in which there is a commitment to ‘bringing out the best’ in young people of all abilities and aptitudes, so increasing their life-chances. Those working in partnership with THPT are justly proud of the strength of collaboration and inclusion present in each of our schools. We believe that by embedding a culture built around our ethos of partnership, inclusion, excellence and energy, our vision can succeed. The inclusive ethos of the MAT is enhanced by a number of Special Centres attached to mainstream settings. Schools within THPT remain local schools and retain their own unique features to serve their local communities. However, they are all underpinned with the same guiding principles: namely to ensure that a first rate education is provided through consistently high quality teaching which facilitates excellent learning within an inclusive, caring, vibrant environment. THPT schools provide a student-centred, broad curriculum with a personalised approach where the individual student lies at the heart of everything we do.
