We Inspire, You Succeed We are all very proud of the George Eliot School where students can excel and enjoy their education. We are a highly aspirational school, continually aiming to provide the best educational experience, both within lessons and in the wide range of extra-curricular activities that we offer. We have a culture of mutual respect: students are supported to develop respect for themselves as individuals, for others around them and for the learning and activities in which they are engaged. Our motto – “We Inspire, You Succeed”, emphasises our focus on actively engaging and encouraging every student to achieve their very best in all that they do. To equip our students to succeed in the modern world, we provide an education that develops their skills and competencies, builds confidence and self-esteem and secures appropriate high quality qualifications that enable all students to progress to the next stage of their education. Our vision is to enable every student to thrive academically and personally in a calm and mutually supportive environment. Dr. Kevin Hylands Principal

The George Eliot School is a member of the Midland Academies Trust which is sponsored by North Warwickshire and Hinckley College. Learning is the core purpose of our school and lies at its heart. We aim to actively engage all students in lessons and develop independent and proactive learners. In June 2014 Ofsted judged the quality of teaching and learning at The George Eliot School as Good. We are continually developing learning in school so that students of all abilities are able to access learning that interests and engages them. Teachers plan sequences of learning that are enjoyable, fun and support excellent progress. Student achievement flows from high quality teaching, learning and assessment, so these are the foci of our weekly CPDL. We are first and foremost, a place of learning, both for students and staff. Students progress is carefully monitored by teachers with intervention and support provided where appropriate. Progress is communicated home through regular reports and the Bromcom Parental Portal. Learning is supported by a range of enrichment activities in our Electives Programme and the many clubs and trips, including several abroad each year.

Creativity and

Innovation Students are eager to learn and to get involved in the wide range of activities on offer. They are equipped with the confidence that comes from a school that is supportive of pupils to explore their abilities.

We provide the opportunity for every child to be immersed in their learning, whether it is through STEAM subjects, (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics), school shows, competitions or the huge range of classes available through the Electives Programme. Fostering creativity and innovation is not limited to the classroom environment, but through the vast number of extra-curricular activities on offer. Music and drama play a key role in school life at GES and students are able to develop, both within groups and individually. Students from Year 7 to Year 11 participate in all aspects of production both on-stage and off and there are numerous opportunities to take part in performances ranging from classical productions to orchestral performances. Students are taught to really understand what they learn so that they develop true mastery of their subjects. We believe giving students latitude and confidence to explore their abilities, supports the development of their independent thinking skills.

Aspiratio and Challenge Learning and teaching is personalised to the needs of each individual student. We believe in challenging every student to achieve far above national expectations. The overwhelming majority of students take the EBacc subjects of mathematics, English, at least two sciences, either geography or history and a modern foreign language as exams in Year 11. These are facilitating subjects that enable progress to nearly all post-16 courses and are highly valued by universities and employers. Our dedicated and talented Creative Design and Performing Arts specialists offer a range of opportunities in taught courses and extra-curricular activities in subjects as diverse as engineering, music and photography. The whole school performances are renowned locally for their scope, ambition, excellence and involvement of so many students. Students are encouraged to develop their leadership both within the classroom and a range of other opportunities. These include the School Council, Sports Leaders, competitions and the impressive whole school performances.

Confidence and

Independence We aim to challenge and inspire our learners to allow them to achieve in everything they do.

Students are supported to take increasing responsibility for their own learning so they can develop the skills for further education and employment. Students with particular needs are very well supported by all staff with the support of the very capable SEN department. We have a rich history in the Performing Arts, a wealth of successful sporting teams, the opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award in Year 10 and a plethora of opportunities which instil a blossoming sense of independence and confidence in all of our learners. Innovation is the byword for all that is delivered across our curriculum and at the heart of this is the educating of the student as a whole, that we teach them about academia but also about themselves and how to become lifelong learners who are resilient, determined and ambitious.

The George Eliot School is at the heart of its community with partnerships being integral to broadening the learning experiences for all. Learning is not confined to the classroom and through trips, visits and guests to the school we aim to provide the best quality of education. There is great experience and diversity within school which is further enhanced by collaborative work with the local and wider communities including universities, colleges, employers and other schools, thus providing enriched curriculum opportunities for students. An importance is placed on preparing every student for life after school and opportunities are sought to develop their enquiring minds and broaden experiences. Partnerships and use of external resources are a theme threading through careers, PSHE, citizenship, extra-curricular activities and indeed the curriculum as a whole. It is important that our students have secure foundations on which grow in order that they become successful and valued members of society.

Expertise

and Dedication The staff are our most important resource. They are experts fully committed to teaching and developing our students. Our staff have very high expectations of every student, and in turn of themselves. They carry out their roles with professionalism, commitment and care. Teachers are more effective when they have time to work with peers, collaborating and innovating their practice through team work. At The George Eliot School we are absolutely committed to recruiting, retaining and developing the very highest quality staff and supporting effective professional learning. Consequently, staff have weekly CPDL that is driven by research evidence that is used to develop classroom practice, planning of learning sequences, teaching methodology and writing of schemes of work. Our staffing structure supports strong links with parents, with a dedicated tutor who will stay with their form from Year 7 to Year 11 and a Head of Year who will be responsible for a year group for their time throughout the school.
