Sixth Form

Welcome to Montsaye Sixth Form Welcome to Montsaye Academy Sixth Form, a place where our students strive for excellence, develop their resilience and aspire to be the best that they can be. We are committed to providing our students with the essential tools they need to reach their full potential, through a varied curriculum, strong pastoral care system and exciting enrichment programme. This ensures that our students have the confidence to take their next steps, whether that be university, apprenticeships or the world of work. At Montsaye, our students are able to develop both as individuals and as part of a community in order to prepare for a competitive and constantly changing world. They leave us with the resilience to manage their next steps, a clarity about their future career plans and the tools with which to achieve them. I look forward to showing you what our Sixth Form has to offer. Kerrie Jones, Head of Sixth Form

“At Montsaye Academy we believe in persevering through setbacks and risking mistakes to reach our goals. We know that as you explore our school you will feel the warmth of what it is like to study here. We have a fantastic school that provides our students with a rich education, continual support towards their next steps in education or the world of work, and a huge range of opportunities, whether it be academically, personally or socially.” Montsaye Academy

Sixth Form Team I am responsible for overseeing the Sixth Form PSHE Curriculum, Form Time resources, and the EPQ. I also support the Head of Sixth Form in the day-to-day management of the Sixth Form and support students with their needs. My role within the Sixth Form Team here is an absolute pleasure, we work with the best students in the school. Being able to ensure that our students feel supported, and guided in their next steps is fundamental and exceptionally rewarding. I have been in the post for over a year and thoroughly enjoy working with a fantastic group of students. Mr Adams, Deputy Sixth Form Lead I am responsible for the day-to-day support of all Sixth Form students, be it academic or pastoral support. I am based in the Sixth Form Centre all day, so I am always there for whatever my students need. I have many responsibilities including assisting students through the UCAS process, arranging events and supporting students with their needs. I have been in this job for almost 11 years now, and I honestly think I have the best job in the school! It’s such a privilege to be with my students during the two most transitional years of their lives. To see them going to university or into the work place as confident and charismatic young people is a real honour. Mrs McNish, Sixth Form Centre Manager

Student Leaders & Ambassadors Our student leadership team form a vital part of the success of the Sixth Form. Our Head Boy and Head Girl, along with their deputies, are actively involved in the decision-making processes in the Sixth Form. They are also role models to the rest of the school, sharing their experiences and offering support to younger students, as well as working closely with the Principal and Head of Sixth Form. In addition to our student leaders, all of our students are encouraged to work in the school community in their roles as student ambassadors. Ambassadors are able to give back to the school with volunteer work: helping out in a range of different subject areas and offering academic and pastoral support to their younger peers.

“Montsaye Academy has an outstanding community spirit, which helps students to foster a love for learning and looks after students mental wellbeing.” Student

Beyond Study Our students will be presented with opportunities to broaden their experiences and they will be encouraged to make contributions to academy life by volunteering their time to help younger students or to assist with the organisation of academy events. It is not only the academy that benefits from such contributions; students themselves also find such experiences rewarding. Many students refer to these experiences when writing personal statements for their university applications. Students may have the opportunity to become involved in some of the following activities: • EPQ • Study visits in subjects such as Biology, Geography, Design, Art, English Literature, Photography • Sports Events • Student Ambassador roles • CCF • ERA days Our ERA days provide the opportunity for our students to meet with outside speakers and develop other skills that are essential to adult life including: cooking and living on a budget, personal safety and practical advice about attending university.
