Laura Parker, Headteacher
We are the senior prefects and our job is to represent the student voice.
We act as a helping hand around Sixth Form, organising events and activities which allow you to enjoy yourself away from your studies. We strive to create a welcoming environment alongside our teachers and peers.
Between us we study a variety of different subjects from Sociology, History, and English Literature, to Maths, Art and Dance. Wrenn Sixth Form allows you to express yourself and caters to every individual need. It offers a strong network of support for your future pathway whether that be going to University, starting an apprenticeship or entering into the world of work. We truly believe that Wrenn Sixth Form helps to develop students to become not only strong individuals but young adults who leave the Sixth Form with a sense of pride and achievement.
Our Sixth Form is a vibrant and hugely successful destination for students after they have completed
their GCSE studies.
We attract students from Wrenn and other local schools, who wish to access the large and varied courses we offer. We are highly aspirational and have the highest academic expectations for our students. As a result the vast majority of our students move on to higher education and study at top Universities in the country including Warwick, Manchester, Imperial College, Loughborough, Kings College and Exeter. All Sixth Form students are expected to contribute to the school and there are many leadership opportunities available that help personal growth and development and ensure that our students leave Wrenn as confident, considerate and diversly accomplished young adults. Our extracurricular programme is extensive and students can enjoy taking part in Duke of Edinburgh, sports challenges, social and team bonding events, charity fundraising and subject specific clubs.
“You always feel welcome or like you have someone to go to if you’re worried or stressed.”

Students
can select A Level or BTEC subjects or a mixed curriculum route.
Most students choose to study 3 subjects, but we also support students, where appropriate to the individual, to study 4 options in the Sixth Form.
• A Levels - Further Mathematics, Mathematics, English Language, English Literature, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Art, Product Design, Photography, French, Spanish, Polish, Computer Science, Psychology, Law, Sociology, Geography, History, Religious Education, Politics
• L3 Vocational Qualifications - Health & Social Care, Business, Sport, Performing Arts, Applied Science, Media
• L2 Qualifications - Re-sit opportunities in Mathematics & English
In Year 12 you will also choose an option from our personal development and from our Give Back Pathway and you will study this across Year 12.
• Personal Growth Pathway - EPQ, Sports Leadership, Study Support, L3 Core Mathematics
• Give Back Pathway - You can select to be an academic mentor, peer mentor, reading buddy or supporter for afterschool clubs
In Year 13 you will focus on studying your courses and dedicate your non-contact time fully to revision and coursework for your chosen courses.
Q: How different are A Levels compared to GCSEs?
A: There are a lot of differences between A Levels and GCSEs. They are much harder than GCSEs with more content to learn, more work to do and longer exams. However, you will only be doing three (possibly four) subjects of your choice, which makes it easier to divide your time between them appropriately and they will only be subjects that you enjoy studying. A Level classes also tend to be much smaller than GCSE classes, meaning more support from teachers and more opportunities to form bonds within your classes. The Sixth Form community of both students and teachers is one that is friendly, warm and inviting, with mutual support and understanding to help ease the pressure of the huge jump from GCSEs to A Levels. Don’t be put off by the increase in workload; help is always available if you need it.
Kareena, Year 12
Q: In what ways is the Sixth Form different to normal school?
A: Sixth Form provides so many more opportunities and lets you really take control of your learning. You form a bond with your teachers as there are smaller classes, enabling you to express your thoughts and feelings in and out of lessons. The teachers are also able to give more personalised feedback and have the ability to spend more time with you so that you understand everything in order to become your most successful self. The school is also more supportive of out of school activities, and allows students to do part time work. Mental health is often talked about, allowing students to express themselves in a safe and comfortable environment. Overall, you are treated like an adult, enabling you to be more independent and attain skills for post-school life.
Ben, Year 12
Q: I’m an external student and I am worried about starting a new school. Do I need to worry?
A: When I first joined Wrenn Sixth Form, I was also very worried. However, from the moment I entered the building I felt welcomed and safe. Within the first day I had already made friends. Both the students and teachers were helpful. There is no need to worry, everyone will help you whenever you need and staff always check up on you. I’ve only been here since the beginning of Year 12 but it feels like I’ve always been here!
Leah, Year 12
Q: I’m not sure if I want to go to University?
A: That’s fine, even though you learn a lot about University courses and life, it isn’t for everyone. You will still get taught useful skills such as writing a personal statement, budgeting and independent living. You need to make the right choice for you and your tutors and careers advisor will help you to make the right decision for you whether that be getting a full time job, apprenticeship or going to University. Tom, Year 13
Q: What if I don’t like the subjects I have chosen?
A: Before even coming into Sixth Form, open day allows you to learn and get a feel for the subjects so you can decide what you would like to study. However, within Sixth Form you have two weeks to settle into the subjects you have chosen and if you decide you’re unhappy, the Sixth Form team help you go over your options and make the decision as easy as possible. I chose a subject but after getting into the lessons I didn’t think it was the best fit for me, so I was able to go to the Sixth Form leadership team and talk about my options. Now I am studying a subject that is more suitable for me and will lead me into my future career.
Jesika, Year 13
Q: What is the Sixth Form community like?
A: For me the community at Wrenn is one of the best aspects of the Sixth Form. Whilst Sixth Form allows you to be very flexible and independent (we have our own kitchen!), everyone is always involved in events such as interform challenges and the Winter Ball, as well as socials for occasions such as Halloween and end of term celebrations. All the teachers in Sixth Form are incredible; beyond helpful and will always go above and beyond to do their absolute best to sort out any problems you have. At Wrenn we also have an up to date social media presence which is managed by the prefect team and regularly posted on, so we all know what’s happening. All these aspects make the Sixth Form community such a vivid and uniquely close-knit environment to be a part of.
Millie, Year 13
“My subject teachers are good at what they do and they make the lessons easier to understand and more enjoyable.”

Students must wear smart appropriate business attire to set an example to all younger students. Dressing in a professional manner links with the tone of our Sixth Form and encourages selfpride. Students are not permitted to wear denim or trainers.
Our pastoral care and guidance is exceptional. The attention we give to ensuring our students are safe and well cared for is recognised as a strength of our school. Our experienced and dedicated team of staff encourage and inspire all students. We ensure every child has the maximum opportunity to achieve and succeed both academically and personally. Our Sixth Form students have a Head of Sixth Form and a Year Team Manager who work alongside each other to ensure every aspect of a student’s school journey is supported. Our Head of Sixth Form is ambitious and provides a strong academic focus to ensure that all students are challenged to achieve the very best outcomes. By guiding our students to reach beyond their potential, we instil a belief that anything is possible. Our invaluable Year Team Manager is always available to offer support to students and their families, responding quickly to their needs.
“What I like most about Wrenn Sixth Form is that we are treated as adults and are able to make our own decisions. Also, our privileges are great and Sixth Form activities are very fun.”
SIXTH FORM STUDENT
Our Sixth Form team are devoted to ensuring our students are fully supported in selecting their next steps. We treat all students as individuals and work closely with them to discover what their personal goals are. We challenge students to be ambitious with their future plans and ensure all students have secured a place on chosen journey before the end of Year 13.
UNIVERSITY - Continuing the study for a degree in a subject that inspires. Many of our students go on to study at prestigious Universities in their chosen subjects. Studying at University opens doors to many graduate positions and professions.
APPRENTICESHIP - Some students chose to embark on a highquality apprenticeship which combines working with study and on the job training which leads to qualifications in the chosen field.
To secure a place at Wrenn Sixth Form, students need to achieve an average grade of 4.5 across 6 of their subjects. Students will also need to meet the individual entry criteria for your chosen subjects at A Level.
A grade 4 or above in English and Maths is essential. However, students will be required to re-sit their Maths and/or English GCSE if they have not reached grade 4, as they will need these qualifications, whatever their future.
