Design Concept
“The Junction,” located in the Blackshear District of Savannah Georgia, is designed with intention to bring the diverse community together, using the overarching concept of convergence. This idea is intertwined with the industrial history of the block as an old street car hub. This industrial influence can be found throughout the space; the partition wall at the center serves as a focal point and establishes a sense of hierarchy in the space. Repetition of this same design language can be found in the lighting and booth design; the lighting feature on the main ceiling mimics the convergence of rail tracks. The community is represented through SCAD alumni, Carla Contrera’s, artwork; homelessness, mental illness, and “human fragility” are leading threads in her art pieces.
