Retailer Births & Deaths

There were 0 administrations recorded in April. There were 5 new additions to the FSP Retailer Database in April, with 2 new retailers proposing to enter the UK market: US concept Potbelly Sandwich Shop, which will make its UK debut in June on 'The Street' part of Westfield Stratford, and Danish concept Duka PC which specialises in computer solutions for the older generation.

Retail Burn This month, as usual, the big national chains attract the most press. The most talked about retailers, according to the Retail Burn, include: Costa, Nando's, Subway, Evans Cycles, Jones Bootmaker, McDonald's, BHS, Thorntons, Shoe Zone and Bank. The retailer with the highest number of positive news articles in April was Costa, having posted strong full year results and announced it will open 569 new coffee shops in the UK over the next five years, taking its total to 4,292. At the other end of the scale is Bank, with the news that its remaining stores were to close by the end of April.

Hot 100 The Hot 100 in April 2015 included; Launching a budget mobile network that promises


to offer the “best value 4G” in the UK, Carphone Warehouse Opening a Collection store on London's Sloane Street, Michael Kors Opening in Sheffield's Meadowhall, White Stuff Opening at intu Derby and SouthGate Bath, Office Appoints new chairman and posts moderate Q3 growth, Dunelm Mill Opening at Manchester's Trafford Centre, Cath Kidston Launches dedicated US ecommerce site and acquires four UK stores from a franchise partner, Pandora Jewellery Half­year profits up, WH Smith plc These sustainable businesses have substantial sales, a healthy profit and have maintained good financial health.

Leisure, at 114, has increased by 3. Clothing & Footwear, at 93, has decreased by 1. Household, at 102, has decreased by 2. Personal, at 100, has increased by 6. Grocery, at 97, has decreased by 6.
