RETAIL BURN

Retail Burn This month, the most talked about retailers, according to SnapShop and the Retail Burn, include Morrisons, Waitrose, John Lewis, Tesco PLC, ASDA, J Sainsbury PLC, JD Whetherspoons, Blockbuster, Debenhams, Net-a-Porter, French Connection Group, Adidas, Billabong, Store Twenty One (QS), Mulberry, Currys, Kingfisher, H&M , HMV and Republic. The retailer with the highest number of positive news articles in March was Morrisons, with the news that the supermarket is to launch an online grocery offering by end of the year. At the other end of the scale, Republic's new owner Sports Direct has slashed the price the administrator offered suppliers for its stock. Republic stockists are set to lose out on millions of pounds.

Retailer Births & Deaths

The only Retail administration in March was: Dreams. Dreams was acquired in the same month by Sun European. The new owner has taken 171 stores and closed 93, as it aims to turn around the retailer. Ten retailers are new to SnapShop: Runners Need, Buzz Beds, Mango Touch, The Oxford Wine Co, The Gourmet Hotdog Company, Drake & Morgan, Sticks 'n' Sushi, Davy's of London (Wine Merchants) Ltd, David M Robinson & Ditsch. SnapShop members can be notified when retailers go into administration or new retailers are added to SnapShop.

Hot 100 The Hot 100 in March 2013 included; Clothing & Footwear retailer, Hugo Boss Sandwich retailer, Pret a Manger British clothing retailer, Ted Baker Family run retailer, The Fragrance Shop Department store, Selfridges Cosmetics brand, Mac Cosmetics Fast food brand, McDonald's Car maintenance retailer, Halfords These sustainable businesses have substantial sales, a healthy profit and have maintained good financial health. The FSP Retail News Index is a 3 month moving average measure of sentiment in reported retail news stories. The March RNI index for All Retailers dropped slightly to 99 compared to 100 in February. Clothing & Footwear and Personal also went down in March. Leisure, Food & Beverage and Grocery all increased by one. Household remained the same. For the full report, click here.
