COURSE INFORMATION
The Career Counseling Program at Florida State University is a 72 hour program that includes two years of academic coursework, a practicum, and a second year internship. It is one of eight CACREP-accredited career counseling program in the nation (www.cacrep.org). The program is designed so students can obtain two graduate degrees simultaneously– the Master of Science and the Educational Specialist. The program provides paid graduate assistantships, tuition fee waivers, and designated scholarships/fellowships for qualified students.

PROSPECTIVE JOB SETTINGs Career Counselors are professional counselors who work in a variety of settings (e.g., schools, community colleges, universities, businesses) to help individuals with career and educational decision making. Most graduates seek positions in colleges and universities as career counselors, career services professionals, co-op/internship directors, academic advisors, and professional counselors. Others seek positions as school counselors, career information specialists in libraries and information centers, workforce development professionals in career one-stop centers, training and staff development professionals in human resource development offices, consultants and independent contractors with career information systems developers and publishers, and staff counselors in corrections, and rehabilitation settings.

Admissions Information The annual fall application deadline for M.S./Ed.S. candidates is April 1. Students are admitted for the fall semester only. The admissions acceptance rate for the program is approximately 50 percent.
Minimum Program Admissions Criteria:

Hold a bachelor’s degree from an regionally accredited institution. Earn a minimum 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 grading scale) in all work attempted while registered as an upper-division student working toward a bachelor’s degree. Applicants must submit GRE scores; these will be evaluated against the percentile norms established by the College. Official TOEFL results are required of all international applicants whose native language is not English and who have not studied in an English-speaking country for at least one academic year. A minimum score of 550 on the paper-based test, 215 on the computer-based test, or 80 on the internet-based test is required.
