Experience the singers’ first concert of the year at Ruby Diamond Concert Hall, featuring our talented vocalists under the masterful direction of conductor Kevin Fenton.

WIND ENSEMBLE (RDCH)

Dr. Patrick Dunnigan and the University Wind Ensemble present an evening of exciting contemporary wind band literature including Bernard Gilmore’s Five Folk Songs for Soprano and Band, featuring special guest, Associate Professor of Voice, Marcy Stonikas.

The University Symphony Orchestra showcases The Negro Folk Symphony, a pioneering piece by Black composer William Dawson. Praised by critics, this symphony has been hailed as a significant American symphonic achievement. Featuring guest faculty clarinetist, Deborah Bish.

UNIVERSITY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA - BRAHMS’S REQUIEM (RDCH)

The University Symphony Orchestra and combined university choirs come together for a performance of Johannes Brahms’s beloved Ein Deutsches Requiem (A German Requiem). Faculty oboist Eric Ohlsson will begin the concert with Richard Strauss’s Oboe Concerto.

STUDENT SMALL ENSEMBLES MUSIC SHOWCASE (OMH)

Winners of the inaugural College of Music small ensembles competition will showcase a wide variety of musical epochs and genres as the whole college gets involved in celebrating these engaging musical collaborations. International trombone soloist and principal trombonist of the Concertgebouw Orchestra, Jörgen van Rijen is sure to dazzle audiences with his musicality during his recital in the Dohnányi Recital Hall.

Grammy-nominated composer Shawn E. For 30 years, Rhythm & Brass has redefined musical boundaries, blending diverse influences from Josquin Des Prez to Pink Floyd into captivating concert experiences worldwide, while also actively engaging in music education through university residencies and collaborations.

AN EVENING WITH IGOR

Celebrate the season opener with FSU College of Music faculty as they pay homage to the groundbreaking composer, Igor Stravinsky. Known for revolutionizing 20th-century music with his bold experimentation and innovative compositions, Stravinsky’s dramatic L’Histoire du soldat and neoclassical Octet stand as testament to his enduring impact on the musical landscape. Experience the excitement of this electrifying performance firsthand.

OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH OPENING NIGHTS

Opening Nights and the College of Music join forces to bring the best of professional performances to the community while fostering invaluable connections for students. Through masterclasses and presentations, students gain insights into musicianship, entrepreneurship, and community engagement, enhancing their educational experience. This year, we join Opening Nights in bringing the Count Basie Orchestra, Boston Brass and Imani Winds for the 2024-2025 season.

COUNT BASIE ORCHESTRA | FEBRUARY 28

Join us for an unforgettable night as the iconic, Grammy-winning Count Basie Orchestra performs at the College of Music in partnership with Opening Nights. Renowned for their dynamic performances and innovative programming, this powerhouse group has led the evolution of big band jazz. Founded by William “Count” Basie in 1935, the orchestra emerged from Kansas City’s vibrant music scene and quickly gained national recognition with hits like “One O’Clock Jump.” Over the decades, they’ve received 18 Grammy Awards and worked with jazz legends such as Lester Young and Billie Holiday, cementing their place in music history. This special event will not only showcase their collective virtuosity in an evening performance but also include educational opportunities for students. Through masterclasses and talks, the Count Basie Orchestra will share their expertise and insights, offering a unique and enriching experience for the College of Music community. RAINBOW CONCERT FEATURING NICOLÁS CASTAÑEDA (OMH)

FSU’s renowned world music ensembles are back in the spotlight for the 28th annual Rainbow Concert of World Music. In addition to performances by the Sekaa Gong Hanuman Agung Balinese Gamelan, Old Time Ensemble, Mas N Steel, Grupo Jaraguá, and more, this year’s concert will showcase the talents of Colombian harp virtuoso Nicolás Castañeda Lozano, whose unique blending of traditional South American musics, jazz, and diverse musical elements from around the globe has gained him international acclaim.

AMELIA AND ME MUSIC THEATRE: PREVIEW@FSU (AUGUSTA CONRADI STUDIO THEATRE)

Everyone knows Amelia Earhart. What almost no one knows is that it was Jackie Cochran who was the greatest pilot of the twentieth century. These two extraordinary women—a contrast in temperament, class, education, and outlook—were close friends from 1935 to 1937, when Amelia disappeared. Amelia and Me is the untold story of how their complex friendship altered the paths of both their lives…with profoundly different consequences.

TICKET ORDERING

Subscriptions and single tickets can be purchased online at our website: tickets.music.fsu.edu . You may also purchase by phone at: 850-644-6500 or in person starting June 17 th at the Fine Arts Ticket Office, located within the Fine Arts Building at 540 W Call Street. Tickets can also be purchased at each event starting one (1) hour prior to the start of the performance. The ticket office is open during the summer break with limited hours, Monday – Wednesday, 11 am – 1 pm. The Ticket Office will resume regular hours (Monday-Thursday 11 am-4 pm, Friday 11 am-3 pm) starting on September 3, 2024.

ACCESSIBILITY

Accessible seating for all persons with disabilities is available for all shows online, by phone, or in person on a first-come, first-served basis. If ordering by phone or in person, please mention your interest in wheelchair accessible seating, hearing devices, or other special accommodations. Hearing devices are available for all Ruby Diamond Concert Hall events.

TICKET DELIVERY

Tickets can be delivered for free via email. Tickets may also be picked up at Will Call or mailed for a service fee.

DISCLAIMER

All programs, artists, ticket prices, locations, dates, and times are subject to change without notice. All service and delivery fees are nonrefundable. In the case of a cancellation, only the face value of the ticket will be refunded.

LATE ARRIVALS

Performances begin promptly at the time printed on your tickets. Late seating will take place at a point in the performance determined by the artists and the artistic staff. Please try to arrive approximately 20-30 minutes prior to the event’s curtain time.

PARKING

Street parking around the FSU campus is free after 5pm and on weekends.

Parking in campus parking lots is free on weekends, but a permit is required Monday through Friday until 10 pm.

Consider becoming a UMA member to enjoy free parking in our reserved lots.

DRESS CODE

There is no formal dress code - be yourself and enjoy the music!

RECORDING POLICY

Photos and video are not allowed during our performances. Please feel free to create memories of our musicians and beautiful spaces before or after the concert.

INTERMISSION

Most intermissions are approximately 15 minutes long. Get up, stretch your legs, use the restroom or meet some new friends in the audience.
