University Health Services University Health Services, previously known as Thagard Student Health Center (TSHC), provides healthcare, prevention, education, and outreach services to a diverse student population and eligible recipients in a safe and supportive environment. The department’s mission is to advance the quality of life for university students, improving academic performance and increasing retention. The Student Health Center is the only health center in Florida involved with a Regional Healthcare Information Organization (RHIO), a health information exchange network.

Provided healthcare to students in 61,604 patient visits. Advised student First Responders who volunteered 7,202 hours, responded to 427 requests for assistance and provided service to 102 special events including home FSU Baseball games. Administered 2,500 flu shots to students at no cost and for a fee to faculty and staff. Advised Relay for Life with 2,400 attendees, registering 130 teams and raising $173,000. Continued to partner with College of Nursing, College of Human Sciences Athletic Training Program and Campus Recreation in construction of new Health and Wellness Center. Trained students from the College of Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Human Sciences and the College of Communication and Information including providing opportunities for medical students to have experiential learning in the Psychiatry Clinic. Invited to participate in Center for Disease Control/College Health national database project. Provided electronic health records environment since 2008 Sponsor of Healthy Campus 2010 and 2020, a national initiative to improve access and quality of health care on college campuses

Frequently Asked Questions Q: What services does the health center offer? A: General medical care, women’s health services, allergy shots, nutrition assessments, physical therapy, psychiatry, immunizations, laboratory, health promotion, HIV and sexually transmitted infection testing, and x-ray. Basic, outpatient, family practicetype services are offered. Q: What services does the health fee pay for? A: The health fee is shared between the Health Center and the University Counseling Center to provide medical and counseling services to all currently enrolled fee-paying Florida State University students. The health fee also provides funding for peer education and outreach programs

American College Health Association: National College Health Assessment Each year, FSU participates in the American College Health Association-National College Health Assessment (ACHA-NCHA) which is a nationally recognized research survey organized by the ACHA. The instrument collects data about students’ health habits, behaviors, and perceptions on the most prevalent health topics. In 2011, a random sample of 3000 FSU students were surveyed. A total of 838 responded for a response rate of 24%. The table below illustrates FSU student responses to the survey question: “Within the last 12 months, have any of the following affected your academic performance?”

New Health & Wellness Center The Health and Wellness Center currently under construction represents a partnership involving University Health Services, the College of Nursing, the College of Human Sciences Athletic Training Program, and Campus Recreation. The new facility is scheduled for completion in June, 2012. The picture below is an architectural rendering of the new facility.
