Facebook: Florida State University Honors Program
From the Director's Desk Dear Honors Students, I would like to welcome everyone back to campus (albeit belatedly) and wish you all a fantastic semester! The Honors program had a great start to the semester with Colloquium leader training and the first-ever Honors picnic at the Rez before school began. As I said in my August e-mail message, feel free to stop by the Honors office and tell us about your summer happenings. I know many of you had some amazing experiences this summer and we want to hear about them. Personally, I got out of the heat and humidity by visiting my mother in Wisconsin and spending time in Oregon. The first half of July I was in Oregon with only my wife (our first vacation without kids in 23 years!). If you have never been to Oregon, it is worth the effort as it has everything from snow-covered peaks to whitewater rafting to beautiful waterfalls to a rocky, rugged coastline. The second half of the vacation I was with a buddy and we did some amazing waterfall hikes, went to a music festival (if you have never heard Yonder Mountain String Band, Greensky Bluegrass, or Horseshoes & Hand Grenades, you are missing some great music!), and even managed to try some of the breweries of Portland. Sincerely, Mark Kearley

JODI WILKOF ALUMNI
SPOTLIGHT
Jodi Wilkof, class of 1992, is a successful business owner of Green Party Events. The company specializes in eco-friendly event planning and design. Wilkof and her company both call Tallahassee home. The personal attention she and her parents received during the admission process attracted her to Florida State University. Once here, she made herself a home at FSU by participating in Student Government, becoming a Resident Assistant in the Honors dormitory, and the organization Literacy Volunteers. However, after graduating with a double major in Human Resource Management and Political Science, Wilkof attended law school at the University of Virginia. Wilkof contributes part of her success to her undergraduate education at FSU and involvement in the Honors Association. While here, she created lasting relationships with professors in her honors seminars who taught her “to think critically and question everything”. Since then, she has had a plethora of opportunity that began in the classrooms of FSU. She says, “I have been fortunate to have had a number of amazing professional experiences since graduating from FSU - clerking at the Supreme Court of Florida to managing a political campaign to owning my own business.” If she could give one piece of advice to current Honors students, she says, “Don’t get stuck on a particular career or career path; be open to possibilities you never dreamed possible. And pursue your passions.”
