STUDENT SUBMISSION

a metamorphosis for the doubting thomas by: Grace Robbins

Suspended I push Between Twilight and Just Right I’d think I convinced myself of the lie That You and I are inseparable Even if I feel like my feet are treading air push through me push me through You I will enter the daffodil hills one day again and rise back to my former mold. But the fortnights of pacing at the train station waiting for Change, the labored breaths from another tsunami cry, where I leaked my deepest regrets on the pillow under my head, lead me around the same corners, I am inflicting on myself a scathing pain. I once thought You were watching, patience be tough it out And then I push into You, and not because I want you

and not because I thought I would die if I didn’t, but I push into You to push through You to move through me. Because You weren’t watching, watching like a careful mother stands at the kitchen counter, to see if her child can balance without her hand, at the top of the stairs when her child goes knee under elbow, pushes up, pushes forward, she holds out her hands You have no hands, no eyes to watch me because you aren’t who i thought you were, because you are not I’m not who I thought I was, but I still am here. and the dawn illuminates, bleeds from its twilight and i depart from the other side of you, into an unknown day, where I am suspended once again this time, a challenger, a skeptic a cynic me.

Undergraduate Internships HSA Executive Board members answer all your questions on the why and how of undergraduate internships.

What are the benefits of interning in your undergrad? Our Newsletter Director, Jordan Block, recommends finding an internship in your undergraduate career for post-graduation benefits. Now in her junior year at FSU, when asked about the benefits of her internship she says "My internship taught me a lot about writing for the public [and] it allowed me 'work' in the 'real world'." Jordan credits her experiences with teaching her a great deal about professionalism that will help her after graduation. Kaci, our , found her motivation to intern to be getting a hands-on experience within her field.

When should you start interning?

Jordan Recommends starting your internship experiences during your undergradaute career. She says that the experience in itself is worthwhile in your undergraduate career, remarking that internships will not only help you stand out, but will make you more knowledagle and capable in your field. Kaci recommends applying to as many as possible at as many possible times, saying "more experience never hurt anyone".

How to find internships that interest you Although Jordan says that your internship doesn't necessarily need to be directly tied to your major, talking to someone in your department could be a great first step to finding a good fit. Jordan first found her internship by reaching out to the FSU biology department, and Kaci found hers through InternFSU. InternFSU uses Handshake to find students internships around Tallahassee and all over the country. . Kaci's internship lines up directly with her pre-med track, but says if you end up interning in your field without loving it, you've got the added benefit of discovering you might need a change.

Perfecting your application The FSU career center can help you perfect your resumes, cover letters, and your application. Beyond the initial application, they also offer services to help you prepare for interviews. The Career Center is located on Woodward, near the Askew Student Life Center. and their website offers great online resources as well. Jordan recommends getting a professional in your life to also review your applications to better your chances. Kaci recommends being honest with all of your passions. "Throw it in your potential employers face that you love what you're working on; when you show active interest in someone's mission it can really go a long way
