CENTURIES OF EXPERIENCE Cox & Kings is the longest established travel company in the world, its history stretching back to 1758 when Richard Cox was appointed as regimental agent to the Foot Guards, later the Grenadier Guards, during the French and Indian War. This role involved organising the payment of officers and men, the provision of clothing and the shipping of anything from personal effects to weapons, supplies and, ultimately, personnel.
Cox & Co.'s business grew hand in hand with the British Empire, notably throughout the Raj era in India, and by the early twentieth century the company was acting as agent and banker throughout the armed forces. In 1922 the company merged with the Henry S. King bank and, although the banking business was sold the following year, the Pall Mall building was opened as the Cox & Kings branch.
Cox & Kings continued to flourish after the two World Wars and today it thrives as an independent travel company. The company has built on the tradition of high quality service and attention to detail established by Richard Cox in the 18th century and it now provides travel arrangements of the highest calibre in some of the most fascinating parts of the world.
Today, Cox & Kings offers tailor-made private travel and escorted small-group tours to a wide range of destinations spanning the Indian Subcontinent, Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, the Far East, Europe, and Australia & New Zealand. We also create tailor-made Family Explorer holidays, and new for 2011 is the Royal Academy Worldwide Art Tours programme of expert-led art tours, and Relax & Explore - a brand new collection of tailor-made travel ideas for travellers who seek to combine the thrill of discovering exciting parts of the world, with the simple pleasure of relaxation in stylish surroundings.
