he vast North American continent opens up a world of infusive beauty and intrepid adventure. A wild expanse of land and sky waiting to be explored. The Big Country beckons. Hire a Cadillac and take to the open road along Route 66, Big Sur or the Trans Canada Highway. Iconic routes with inspiring vistas that stretch out across glorious wind-swept shores, tumbleweed desert and endless fertile plains. The scarlet desert of Arizona is the place to saddle up and ride through cattle ranch territory and ancient grounds. Soar high above the Grand Canyon or tuck yourself away in a wooden lodge, on the shores of a crystal-clear lake, where visual splendour is assured. In Florida, dazzling white sands and Art Deco panache flank flamboyant theme parks, Latino ambience pervades the cafés and bars. California is all things to everyone, an intoxicating brew of LA glamour and tranquil vineyards, breathtaking coastline and San Francisco show. New York remains the world’s greatest one-off, electrifying and intense…the heartbeat of America. Across the ocean to the west, Hawaii’s tropical islands lie in wait for newly weds, their welcoming beachfront enclaves brimming with Polynesian charm. Surfers ride the waves on Waikiki beach, luau feasts are served in happy celebration. Move to the mariachi beat in blazingly colourful Mexico or get close to nature’s exquisite handiwork in the vastness of Canada. As every journey ends, another natural wonder stands ready to behold. From the moment that a travel adventure enters your mind, Carrier’s informed professionals – passionate travellers each and every one – are on hand to weigh up the options and devise the most imaginative itineraries, to seek out the most family-friendly destinations or exclusive hotels. No need to worry about theme park passes, dinner reservations or seats to the show. The world is Carrier’s playground. Travelling alone, in a couple or as a family, our holidays will stretch the imagination: an exhilarating city break, a multi-centre journey of discovery or the quest for the most glamorous destinations. No detail is too small, no challenge too big for a team whose first-hand local insights assure Carrier guests the very best of everything. The destination is only the start. The experience is exclusive to Carrier.

he Sunshine State lives up to its reputation with blue skies, beaches and a million things to do. Miami invites the visitor into a metropolitan mesh of culture, the bright neighbourhoods with their hip hotels exuding a Latino vibe. Stroll past the lycra-clad roller-bladers and visit the art deco district’s candy-coloured houses. Vying for attention with the city’s numerous attractions are miles of soft white beaches – Palm Beach being the epitome of East Coast refinement, where Gatsby-era architecture rubs shoulders with glitzy designer shopping. Naples, on the other hand, is the very essence of West Coast charm with its uncrowded beachfront and countless golf courses. Disappear to the beaches of Key Biscayne to sway in a hammock or charter a deep sea fishing boat. Days in Orlando overflow with exciting endeavours. Walt Disney works his theme park magic, Jaws lurks hungrily at Universal Studios...adventures that will have children beaming with joyful amazement – an outburst of colourful characters engaging them at every turn. There are thrills of a different kind in store in the Everglades, home to innumerable species of wildlife such as dolphins, turtles and all manner of exotic birds. Skim across the endless sea of grasses, spotting crocs and alligators as you go. Hop on a float plane for a true Everglades experience, or jump into a pontoon boat for close up wildlife encounters. A state with style, panache and plenty of sunshine to spare.

his is touring country par excellence – a chance to pick up a shiny four-wheel convertible and drive ‘Route 1’ along the dramatic Big Sur Pacific shoreline. Twist and turn amongst endless rolling vistas: snow-capped mountains, vast deserts, towering forests and crystal blue lakes, en route to the lush Napa Valley where wine lovers can wander contentedly through acres of vineyard before choosing a fine vintage to go with lunch. North, Central and South California teem with iconic landmarks and pulsating cities. Join a twilight walk through the wild flower-dotted meadows and lodgepole pines of Yosemite, gloriously photogenic in the evening glow. Stop a while in Carmel, a precious spot where flourishing forests of pine and cypress surround scenic inlets...just one beautiful part of a thousand miles of dramatic Californian coastline. Seaboard and landward, an array of 24 hour metropolitan melting pots awaits. For outright glamour, Los Angeles gets the biggest press. Beverly Hills...Rodeo Drive...Hollywood – ostentatious and exhilarating it is a mecca for upmarket brands and upscale shopping, whilst film buffs can rub shoulders with Presley, Chaplin and Monroe on the celebrated Walk of Fame. In San Francisco, trams and steep streets link all manner of colourful neighbourhoods from Chinatown to the funfairs and fishing boats of Fisherman’s Wharf. Alcatraz glowers offshore whilst the Golden Gate Bridge frames the whole enticing picture. Surfpounded beaches or quaint old mission towns; theme parks or baseball fields...California lives life with unrivalled verve.

An iconic road trip through California’s highlights, including the dramatic cliffs of ‘Route 1’, the deep valleys and waterfalls of Yosemite National Park and the bright lights of San Francisco and Los Angeles. Days 1-2 | Arrive San Francisco, collect your rental vehicle and drive to The Ritz-Carlton San Francisco (page 26) for a two night stay. Amongst the city’s many celebrated sights, a boat ride to Alcatraz features highly on anyone’s list. Fisherman’s Wharf, stretching out along the waterfront, bustles with fishing boats, seafood stalls and restaurants and from here, take a ride on a national historic landmark, the fabled cable car. Chinatown and Union Street are crammed with ethnic eateries, contemporary restaurants, Californian sidewalk cafes, boutiques and galleries. (RO). Days 3-4 | Head east out of the city and pick up Highway 120 to Yosemite National Park. Enter via the North Gate and spend two nights at the legendary Ahwahnee. One of North America’s first national parks, Yosemite is an outdoor playground, from the rugged rock formations of the valley to giant sequoias and the drama of the Falls. Activities may include hiking, bike rides, guided twilight strolls, star gazing or spotting the local wildlife which includes mule deer, coyotes and black bears. Approximate driving time: 4 hours. (RO). Day 5-6 | Head west along Highway 140 and pause in historic Mariposa for a taste of the Old West. Continue on to the coast and join ‘Route 1’ at Monterey. Stay for two nights at Monterey Plaza.
Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa
(1) Dramatically perched over Monterey Bay, this world-class resort on Cannery Row is perfectly placed for visiting Monterey’s many attractions. Dine at Schooners Bistro on the Bay with its sailboatdesign setting and heated outdoor terrace, or at the panoramic Duck Club Grill for succulent seafood and award-winning margaritas. The rooftop spa and fitness centre has whirlpool tubs and a sundeck to round off the day.
Post Ranch Inn, Big Sur (2)
Perched high above the Pacific Ocean on the cliffs of Big Sur, this is an award-winning sanctuary, the ultimate in romance and luxury. Organically designed rooms feature slate spa bathtubs, wood-burning fireplaces and decks with awe-inspiring views, some with outdoor hot tubs. Luxuriate in the spa, indulge in a massage and bask in the Jade infinity pool. Unforgettable cuisine is accompanied by wine selections from one of the most extensive cellars in North America.
NA_017_032.indd 22

Day 7 | Follow Route 1 southwards along the dramatic Pacific coast where the ocean crashes against the cliffs at Big Sur. Spend a night at the Post Ranch Inn. Approximate driving time: 1 hour. (B). Days 8-9 | Continue south, pausing perhaps for a tour of the gardens at Hearst Castle or the rock arches at Pismo Beach, before arriving at Santa Barbara for a two night stay at the Four Seasons Resort, The Biltmore (page 30). White-washed houses with red tiled roofs, archways and wrought-iron gates lend a distinctly Spanish colonial feel to Santa Barbara, a sophisticated centre for wining, dining and shopping. Take a tour around the world-class wineries of Santa Ynez or if visiting between March and mid May, you may be fortunate enough to spot the grey whales migrating. Approximate driving time: 4 hours. (RO). Days 10-11 | Drive to Santa Monica then on to Los Angeles for the final two nights at the Beverly Wilshire (page 27). Enjoy the glamour and sophistication of Beverly Hills, the excitement of Hollywood and the designer names that line Rodeo Drive. Day 12 | Depart Los Angeles for the overnight flight back to the UK.

A hot air balloon trip at sunrise offers a different perspective on the valley, followed by a champagne brunch. (RO). T
his is classic cowboy country...ranching terrain...home of heart-stopping canyons, majestic saguaro cacti and real-life road-runners. It is towards sunset when the vast Sonoran Desert seems at its most spiritual, the dramatic blood red sun looming over colossal rock formations, the sky metamorphosing from aquamarine-blue, to flame-red, to jet-black. North west of Tucson the Tortolita Mountains rise and indigenous American Indian influences abound – symbolic petroglyphs carved into the black basalt, old arrowheads hidden in the dust. Meander amongst the towering cactus plants to the haunting sound of a native Indian flute, carried on the breeze. As the stars come out, the chuckwagon suppers and cowboy cookouts fire up...mighty steaks sizzling on the barbecue; baked chicken, chilli and cornbread augmenting the feast. Shimmering like an oasis in the desert, Scottsdale is both upmarket and affluent, its vibrant arts scene reflecting local culture and customs in its displays of jewellery, pottery and one-of-a-kind artworks. Blessed with 330 days of sunshine a year, it is the perfect base from which to discover the Grand Canyon, appearing like an enormous breach in the world from the tiny planes and helicopters that circle above. Hitch a ride on a mule to descend the precarious pathways to the river below, or experience the thrill of bird’s eye desert vistas from the basket of a hot air balloon. At the end of the day, sip sundowners beneath stars that seem so close you could pluck them right out of the sky.

Hawaii
A
tropical South Seas ambience pervades this utterly remote archipelago, where the chanted aloha greetings are accompanied by necklaces of fresh white pikake flowers. The scent of Arabian jasmine fills the air, and everywhere beautiful yellow hibiscus, kukui blossoms and vibrant red ohia drape the landscape. As a sign of their belief in the gods of love, nature, water and death, grass-skirted maidens sway in a hula under palm trees; whilst others prepare a traditional torch-lit Luau celebration. Feast on roasted kalua pig, kiawe-smoked steaks and grilled mahi mahi or move to the rhythms of Polynesian music and dance. A heli-ascent over Oahu’s white, sandy beaches, turquoise waters and fields of green is an electrifying way to view the dramatic landscape. This is the gathering place, home to the sophistication of capital city Honolulu and Waikiki beach where daring surfers ride the waves…busy, bustling and fun packed. Hawaii’s natural beauty is astounding: warm, tranquil waters, fresh floral air, tropical rainforests and snow capped summits – the sparkling expanse of Pacific Archipelago offering limitless hideaways amongst gleaming white and jet black beaches. Eleven distinct climate zones promise a treat for the senses – a land of snow and volcanic fire traversed by innumerable hiking trails. Experience the real Hawaii on Maui, dive the warm waters of Molokini to discover shipwrecks or take to the ocean to see the majestic humpback whales on their winter journey. New depths of beauty can be discovered in a submarine 125 feet below the surface; charter a sunset cruise before returning to join the Luau to party with the gentle, friendly people. Surfassailed beaches to glowing lava flows, golden sandy coves to verdant golf courses…the islands of aloha are made for unwinding.

New York
T
his is the ultimate adrenalin-charged city. An exhilarating mix of world-famous sights and cutting edge culture. Unmatched as a short break destination it simply fizzes with iconic attractions. Broadway and Times Square seem to pulsate with dazzling lights whilst a horse and carriage ride around Central Park is both stately and serene. Find a diner with booths serving eggs ‘over easy’, best worked off with a steep climb to Liberty’s crown. Circle the city in a helicopter or hop in a yellow cab to SoHo and Greenwich Village – dotted with historic townhouses, atmospheric boutiques and criss-crossed by Bleecker and Cornelia streets where great little restaurants abound. Discover the Meatpacking District, New York’s new focus of cool, and ride the subway to the glorious shopping emporiums of Macy’s or Bloomingdales. Sip cosmopolitans in hip bars after taking in a hit show on its debut Broadway run, or go the full culture mile with visits to The Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim. The city is a smorgasbord of eating opportunities. Cross from Little Italy into Chinatown where the baskets of live crabs spill out onto the pavement and drink in the city’s unique cosmopolitan flavour. Enjoy panoramic skyline vistas from Brooklyn Heights; feel the joyous exuberance of Harlem with its blues clubs and gospel choirs. Just a bite of the big apple will leave you hungry for more.

Canada
E
ndless forests, mountains, glaciers, lakes and alluring cosmopolitan cities...the craggy wilderness of the Rockies contrasts wildly with the urban buzz. Vast, idyllic and inspirational, this is the ultimate great outdoors. Glorious when viewed from the comfort of a sumptuous lodge with a welcoming wood-burning stove, it seems more spectacular still from the windows of the legendary Rocky Mountaineer train as it climbs through rugged scenery high into the mountains. Swap tracks for air to soar over verdant valleys, towering peaks and coastal fjords – Canada’s convoluted coastline famed for its sightings of whales as they breach in the deep aquamarine waters. Hike with a trained guide through dense ancient cedar forests, fording salmon-rich streams in the hope of spotting the elusive Kermode bear. There are moonlit canoe expeditions and zipline adventures for the brave – a network of cables and suspension bridges providing a thrill ride without equal through the creeks and valleys around Whistler and Blackcomb. Explore the dramatic terrain around Banff and Lake Louise – a year-round playground for hikers, skiers and golfers. Canada also holds the city lover in its thrall. With its spectacular harbour-front setting, vibrant Vancouver surely ranks amongst the world’s most beautiful destinations, the place to spend a memorable night on the town in a vivacious den of jazz or feasting on lobster and snow crab, whilst by day the attractions include the renovated Victorian charm of the old Gastown and the emerald expanses of Stanley Park. From here it is just a short trip to the Sunshine Coast, the perfect location for a night under canvas with every luxury to hand. Mystical yet cosmopolitan, Canada holds so many unexpected highs.

Located just a short walk from Robson Street, the hotel is ideally situated for shopping, sightseeing and generally exploring this vibrant and cosmopolitan city. humpback whales, pods of orcas, dolphins and bears including grizzlies, black bears and the elusive and endangered white Kermode bear or Spirit Bear (see page 74 for a wildlife viewing calendar showing the best time of year for the different species). A wide selection of guided activities, hikes, fishing and kayaking is included at the lodge, as well as all meals and beverages. Some activities such as heli-fishing or heli-hiking do incur a charge. Mexico
T
he visual assault of Mexico is unexpected and unforgettable: a manifold beauty on the tail of America. Curving from northwest to southeast it encompasses vibrant desert landscapes, picturesque pueblos and mysterious steaming jungles. On the beautiful Baja California peninsula, with the Sea of Cortez to one side and the Pacific to the other, cactistudded craggy peaks form a backdrop to miles of golden sand beaches, their deserted coves offering unmatched seclusion. At the very tip of the peninsula lies Cabo San Lucas, the epitome of laid-back indulgence blessed with soft sands and even softer breezes. In vivacious Acapulco the heart skips a beat as the cliff divers of La Quebrada plunge gracefully into the waters below, whilst out to sea thousands of migrating gray whales provide a memorable spectacle from the deck of a boat or the tip of a peninsula. Snorkel the waters to witness a kaleidoscopic underwater show, or join a deep sea fishing trip in search of hard-fighting sailfish and bonito. Streets bustle with colourful life, thronged by Mexico’s exceptionally warm and friendly people. In the sprawling metropolis of Mexico City, Mariachi music fills the squares and markets brim with mementoes. Feast on corn tortillas and fiery fajitas before slipping into a swish bar to enjoy a margarita. For sheer colour and exuberance, few countries compare. For a further collection of our hotels throughout Mexico please see our Caribbean & Mexico brochure or visit www.carrier.co.uk.

You may need a visa to travel to the USA even if you have a machine readable passport. The US government requires that all passports issued on or after 26 October 2006 include biometric data. Anyone travelling to the USA under the Visa Waiver Programme must apply for an Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) prior to their journey, and no later than 72 hours before departure. This form is available online and a fee of US$14 per person will apply. Please visit http://esta.cbp.dhs.gov for further information. However, we recommend that after reviewing the information above, you may want to contact the passport issuing agency or authority in your country of citizenship. Any person with a criminal conviction must apply to the US Embassy for a visa in advance of travel. British subjects must have the full right of abode in the UK and be travelling on an unexpired passport for a stay not exceeding 90 days as well as holding a return air ticket issued by a participating carrier. Non-British passport holders should check entry requirements with us before they travel. There are currently no compulsory vaccination requirements. However, medical advice does change from time to time and we would recommend that you seek professional advice. The International Medical Centre advises all worldwide travellers to ensure that their tetanus, polio, typhoid and hepatitis ‘A’ jabs are up-to-date. Contact The N.H.S. Direct Information Service, Tel: 0845 4647 or MASTA Health Line on 09068 224100. Please note that rules do change occasionally, so all clients are responsible for ensuring they conform to passport, visa and vaccination requirements. CURRENCY Credit cards are widely used in shops and restaurants and most hotels on check-in will take a credit card imprint to cover the cost of any extras. This is also true when picking up car rentals. It is strongly recommended that you take any additional spending money in the form of US/Canadian dollar travellers cheques, although we do
suggest you always carry some local currency in small denominations to cover tips and incidentals. TIPPING/SERVICE CHARGES Tipping is a way of life in America and in general gratuities are paid to hospitality industry personnel who render personal services. As a rule 15-20% gratuity/ service charge will be added to food and beverage bills. If you are given assistance with your baggage $2 per bag is expected and when a doorman calls for a taxi or an attendant retrieves your car from valet parking a $2 tip is generally appreciated. Leave the bartender $2 per round and tip the concierge about $5 for booking an excursion or show. Taxi drivers are usually given $2 up to an $8 fare and $2 in excess of this. SMOKING All featured airlines now operate a total smoking ban on their flights. Several of our smaller hotels do not permit smoking in either their private or public rooms, whilst larger hotels have specially-designated guest rooms and separate areas in restaurants for smokers. We will advise you of the most stringent policies wherever possible. CHECK-IN & CHECK-OUT Hotel rooms are usually available from 3pm on the day of arrival and must be vacated from 11am on the day of departure. Should there be no incoming guests and you are waiting for an evening flight, hotels sometimes allow you to keep your room until later in the day – please check with the front office on the day of your departure. Should this not be possible, a day-room is usually provided where you can change, sometimes at an additional charge. OUR HOTELS The hotels featured throughout this brochure rank amongst the finest available in the USA, Canada and Mexico. We hope we have described them well but please do not hesitate to contact us should you require more specific information or advice. The recreational facilities they offer are dependent upon the season and whilst most of our hotels are open year-round, sometimes a restaurant or bar may close during their less busy periods. We will, of course, endeavour to advise you of any significant activity before your departure. The dress code at our featured hotels is smart casual or resort casual. In a few cases, men are required to wear jackets in particular restaurants in the evenings. OUR AIRLINES All holidays are based upon the economy class flights of scheduled airlines. Should you wish to upgrade to the airline’s equivalent of Business Class or First Class, we do offer some excellent savings and an indication of the supplements is given next to the hotel prices. We strongly recommend that you check in early if you have particular seat requests. Carrier has no control over the allocation of seats and even if they are pre-booked with the airline, no guarantee can be made that they will still be available on check-in. Baggage allowances vary according to the destination, flight and class booked, but if your holiday
includes travel by smaller aircraft it is often necessary to travel light and charges may be made for additional bags. Reduced fares are available from most UK regional airports to London – contact our reservations department for further details. PASSENGERS WITH REDUCED MOBILITY Current legislation requires that you advise us at least 48 hours prior to departure if you will require assistance at the airport. HEALTH & SAFETY Sensible precautions should always be taken, as with anywhere else in the world. Use safety deposit boxes whenever possible and ensure doors are locked when leaving your room. Try not to carry too much cash, particularly in cities or on the beach. With regards to your health, it is very important that you take out travel insurance, as medical costs in the USA and Canada are high. Always heed local advice and warnings when it comes to weather conditions. In very hot weather, ensure you drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration and in deserts or wilderness areas, heed local advice about insects and larger wildlife. Great care should be taken when sunbathing, particularly during the first few days of your holiday and where children are concerned. Our reservations staff have access to the latest Foreign Office advice. SPECIAL REQUESTS We pride ourselves on offering our clients a personalised service and will make every effort to meet any of your special dietary, room or travel requests. If these are a particularly important factor in the choice of your holiday, it is essential they are put in writing at the time of booking. In the unlikely event there is non-compliance, please note we do not hold any legal liability to you whatsoever. YOUR OPINION Your individual comments are vital if we are to successfully monitor the hotels and services we offer. After your holiday, we would be most grateful if you would return the questionnaire included with your travel documents. We guarantee that all views and opinions are read and acted upon where necessary. We want you to travel with Carrier the next time you are considering a long-haul holiday. DATA PROTECTION STATEMENT We have measures in place to protect the personal booking information held by us. This information will be passed on to the relevant suppliers of your travel arrangements and it will sometimes be necessary to pass your details to other organisations. We may also have to send your details to countries that may not have an equal level of data protection legislation. When you request these products and services, you give your consent that we can pass your details to other organisations. We may also use your details to provide you with features, services and offers available from us and other companies and organisations carefully selected by us. Booking Conditions
This brochure was published in September 2010. The holidays featured are operated by Carrier Ltd (the Company) which is registered in England under company number 2671002. Carrier Ltd is a member of ABTA, membership number V0391. We are obliged to maintain a high standard of service to you by ABTA’s Code of Conduct. The following conditions, together with the information set out in the relevant brochure descriptions will form part of your contract with the Company. This contract is made on the terms of these booking conditions, which are governed by English law, and the jurisdiction of the English Courts but not exclusively so if you are domiciled elsewhere in the UK then the Courts of Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland also have jurisdiction. 1. BOOKING YOUR HOLIDAY To secure your booking you should forward to the Company the relevant payment (see Section 2 below). A contract will exist when we issue our confirmation invoice. The Company will try and arrange for special requests to be met but these cannot be guaranteed. The Company will not be liable if any special request is not met. If you arrange your holiday direct with the Company all correspondence will be forwarded to the lead passenger unless otherwise stipulated. If your booking is made through a travel agent all communications by the Company will be made to that address. 2. PAYMENTS A deposit of 10% of the holiday cost – subject to a minimum of £250 per person – is payable and payment of the balance is due no later than 8 weeks before departure. If the booking is made within 8 weeks of departure, full payment is required at the time of booking. If the holiday is made through a travel agent, all monies paid by the client to the travel agent, under or in contemplation of a contract with Carrier Ltd are held by the travel agent as an agent of Carrier Ltd. If payment is not received on the due date the holiday or travel arrangements will be liable to cancellation which will lead to loss of deposit. Tickets and other documents will normally be forwarded 10-14 days before date of departure. Any cancellations will be subject to the terms in clause 4. Cancellation by you. Additional deposits may be required for: (a) yachts, villas and certain lodges/safaris and ski holidays (b) departures over Christmas and other periods - as may be detailed (c) certain airfares which have to be ticketed at the time of booking and are non refundable. full details will be advised at the time of booking. 3. PRICE POLICY All prices quoted in this brochure are calculated on rates of exchange as known on 6 August and as published in the Financial Times of 6 August 2010 (£1 =US$1.591). Brochure prices can go up or down. Before you make a booking we will give you the up to date price of your chosen holiday, including the cost of any peak season supplements, fuel charges, upgrades or additional facilities which you have requested. The price of unsold holidays may be increased or decreased at any time. The price of your holiday will be confirmed on booking. When you have booked your holiday and paid your deposit (or the full amount if you book within eight weeks of departure), the price of your holiday as shown on your confirmation invoice is guaranteed and will not be subject to any changes or surcharges unless you elect to change the confirmed booking (see Clause 5). At no time is the Company liable to give a breakdown of costs due to the nature of the holiday bought by the client. Due to the financial commitments being made by Carrier we regret we are not able to make reductions in holiday prices should the £ strengthen. Those holidays which have not been completed within those date bands detailed within the relevant price panels will be subject to an applicable reduction or increase.
4. CANCELLATION BY YOU Any cancellation by the client must be advised in writing to the Company (signed by the same person who made the original booking). Cancellation will only come into effect on the day written advice is received by the Company. Recorded or Special Delivery is strongly recommended. Upon receipt the following charges (excluding amendments charges paid) will be payable by the client, depending upon the number of days prior to departure
with a refund of the difference in price; or (c) cancel your holiday with a full refund of all monies paid. In all 3 cases, minimum compensation will be paid as detailed below unless the change occurs as a result of circumstances beyond our control. Due to some airline, chalet and hotel requirements during peak periods various cancellation charges may apply - the rates above will not be applicable. The charges will be advised at the time of booking. We would strongly suggest that you take out full insurance, which will in most cases include cover, under certain circumstances, against loss of deposit or cancellation fees. 5. CHANGES MADE TO A CONFIRMED BOOKING This facility is available and an administration fee of £40.00 (plus communication charges) per alteration will be charged. Alteration of a booking within 8 weeks of departure date may incur additional costs. PLEASE NOTE: Most flight tickets cannot be changed without payment of cancellation charges and/or the cost of a replacement ticket. 6. ALTERATION TO A CONFIRMED BOOKING WHILST ABROAD We regret that no credit or refund is possible for any unused services provided in the cost of your holiday. If you decide to alter your travel arrangements whilst abroad this is your own responsibility and Carrier Ltd or the Company’s Agents are not responsible for any extras or difficulties that may arise with onward travel as a result of such alterations. No credit or refund is possible for any lost, mislaid, stolen or destroyed documents which could be the subject of a claim on your own insurance. 7. CANCELLATION OR ALTERATION BY US We hope and expect to be able to provide you with all the services we have confirmed to you at the time of booking. We plan arrangements a long time in advance of your holiday using independent suppliers such as airlines, hotels etc., over whom we have no direct control. On occasions changes do have to be made, and we reserve the right to make these. Most of these changes are minor. However, if we consider them a significant change we will endeavour to advise you or your Travel Agent as soon as reasonably possible. A significant change includes a change of accommodation to that of a lower category and/or price, a change of flight time of more than 12 hours, a change of UK departure airport, or a significant change of resort area. In accordance with EU regulations we are required to advise you of the actual air carrier operating your flight/connecting flight/transfer. We do this by listing carriers to be used or likely to be used on the relevant brochure pages and/ or your holiday confirmation invoice. Any changes to the actual airline after you have received your tickets will be notified to you as soon as possible and in all cases at check-in or at the boarding gate. Such a change is deemed to be a minor change. In the case of a significant change before your departure we will provide you with three alternatives: (a) alternative travel arrangements of equivalent or of very closely similar standard and price, if available. (b) alternative travel arrangements of a lower standard together
Compensation Per Person NIL £20 £30 £40 £50
Circumstances amounting to “force majeure” include any event which we or the supplier of the services in question could not, even with all due care, foresee or avoid such as war or threat of war, civil strife, riot, terrorist activity, industrial dispute, natural or nuclear disaster, fire, sickness, bad weather, the acts of any Government or public authority and all similar events which are beyond our control. It is regretted that under such circumstances there will be no compensation payable. Please note, we are reliant on information provided by the Foreign Office. A significant change includes a change of accommodation to that of a lower category and/or price, a change of flight time of more than 12 hours, a change of UK departure airport (except between London airports) or a significant change of resort area. 8. OUR RESPONSIBILITIES If the contract we have with you is not performed or is improperly performed by us or our suppliers we will pay you appropriate compensation if this has affected the enjoyment of your travel arrangements. However we will not be liable where any failure in the performance of the contract is due to: you; or a third party unconnected with the provision of the travel arrangements and where the failure is unforeseeable or unavoidable; or unusual and unforeseeable circumstances beyond our control, the consequences of which could not have been avoided even if all due care had been exercised; or an event which we or our suppliers, even with all due care, could not foresee or forestall. Our liability, except in cases involving death, injury or illness, shall be limited to a maximum of two times your travel arrangements. Our liability will also be limited in accordance with and/or in an identical manner to (a) The contractual terms of the companies that provide the transportation for your travel arrangements. These terms are incorporated into this contract; and (b) Any relevant international convention, for example the Montreal Convention in respect of travel by air, the Athens Convention in respect of travel by sea, the Berne Convention in respect of travel by rail and the Paris Convention in respect of the provision of accommodation, which limit the amount of compensation that you can claim for death, injury, delay to passengers and loss, damage and delay to luggage. We are to be regarded as having all benefit of any limitation of compensation contained in these or any conventions. You can ask for copies of the transport companies’ contractual terms, or the international conventions, from our offices. No.1 Lakeside, Cheadle, Cheshire, SK8 3GW. Tel 0161 491 7600. If the contract we have with you is not performed or is improperly performed as a result of failures attributable to a third party unconnected with the provision of the services, or as a result of failures due to unusual and unforeseeable circumstances beyond our control, the consequences of which could not have been avoided even if all due care had been exercised, or an event which we or our suppliers, even with all due care, could not foresee or forestall, and you suffer an injury or other material loss, we will offer you such prompt assistance as is reasonable in the circumstances. 9. RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CLIENT Any passports, visas, health certificates, International Driving Licences and other travel documents required for the holiday must

be obtained by the client, whose responsibility it remains to ensure that these are all in order and to meet any additional costs incurred (whether by the client or by the Company on the clients behalf) as a result of failure to comply with such requirements. You are responsible to arrive at stated departure times and places and any loss or damage which you suffer through failure to do so lies with you. The Company has no liability whatsoever to you through your failure to do so. The Foreign & Commonwealth Advice Unit may have issued information about your holiday destination. You are advised to check this information on the Internet under the address http://www.fco.gov.uk/. Alternatively, you can contact the ABTA Consumer Affairs Information Department on 0901 2015050 (calls charged at 50p min). Under EU Regulation 261/2004 you have the rights in some circumstances to refunds and/or compensation from your airline in cases of denied boarding, cancellation or delay to flights. Full details of these rights will be published at EU airports and will also be available from airlines. However reimbursement in such cases will not automatically entitle you to a refund of your holiday cost from us. Your right to a refund and/or compensation from us is set out in clause 7. If any payments are due to you from us, any payment made to you by the airline will be deducted from this amount. 10. Airline/Airport Delays We use the scheduled services of the world’s major international airlines. These are rarely subject to lengthy delays. In the unlikely event that this does happen, arrangements for meals, overnight accommodation, etc. should be met by your airline. Conditions of carriage are available on request. In the event of a flight being delayed, we will arrange for the following to be provided, whenever practical, and subject to the airport being able to cater for this:- over 4 hours, an appropriate meal, and for delays of at least 8 hours extending beyond midnight, overnight accommodation will be provided wherever possible. However, this will depend on such factors as the expected length of delay, local availability of accommodation, immigration rulings etc. Where long flight delays result in lost holiday time, no refunds are given by hotels for unused accommodation, as rooms are held for delayed arrivals, not re-let. Under EU law you may be entitled in some circumstances to refunds and/or compensation from your airline in cases of denied boarding, cancellation or delay to flights. Full details of these rights may be published at EU airports and will also be available from airlines. However re-imbursement in such cases will not automatically entitle you to a full refund of your holiday from us. If any payments to you are due from us, any payment made by the airline will be deducted from this amount. If your airline does not comply, you should complain to the Air Transport users Council on 020 7240 6061 www.aug/org.uk 11. COMPLAINTS Most problems can be sorted out straight away if we know about them. If you have a complaint you must report it immediately and directly to the supplier (eg. Hotel Manager), or the emergency contact numbers provided with your travel documents. If you fail to follow this procedure, this may affect your rights under this contract, as we have been deprived of the opportunity to investigate and rectify the problem. If the problem cannot be resolved locally and you wish to complain, full details must be received in writing to: Customer Relations Department, Carrier Ltd, No.1 Lakeside, Cheadle, Cheshire, SK8 3GW within 28 days of return. Should we be unable to resolve your complaint amicably, the matter may (if the client so wishes) be referred to Arbitration under a special scheme which, though devised by arrangement with ABTA, is administered quite independently by the IDRS part of Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. The scheme provides a simple and inexpensive method of Arbitrations on documents alone with restricted liability on the customer in respect of costs. The scheme applies to claims for an amount no greater than £5,000 per person or £25,000 per booking. 12. CONSUMER PROTECTION We provide full financial protection. When you buy an ATOL protected air holiday package from us you will receive a Confirmation Invoice from us (or via our authorised agent through which you booked) confirming your arrangements and your protection under our Air Travel Organiser’s Licence number 2968. In the unlikely event of our insolvency, the CAA will ensure that you are not stranded abroad and will arrange to refund any money you have paid to us for an advance booking. For further information visit the ATOL website at www.atol.org.uk. The price
of our air holiday packages includes the amount of £1 per person as part of the ATOL Protection Contribution (APC) we pay to the CAA. This charge is included in our advertised prices. 13. INSURANCE We believe it is essential to take out travel insurance when you go on holiday. 14. Out of Date range Flights Our brochures are prepared well in advance and scheduled airlines will generally not have loaded their seats to sell until approximately 10 months before the departure. Should this apply we will inform you at the time of booking and calculate the price in anticipation that seats will be available in the specific airline booking class to which our specially negotiated airfares apply. We will issue an invoice recording the arrangements reserved for you and will take a deposit, but a contract will not exist between us. When the airline seats become available to book we will tell you the price and give you 7 days to either accept the price or cancel the booking and receive a full refund. If you accept the price, we will issue an invoice and a contract exists between us. In the event that flight seats/accommodation does not become available, you will receive a full refund. 15. From Prices Carrier offers you the flexibility to create your own holiday from the range of accommodation and services available. Because of the wide choice, it is not possible to list every price on every date. A ‘from’ price is indicative of the lowest price available for the hotel or itinerary featured but this may vary depending on a number of factors such as your date of travel and choice of accommodation. To help you in choosing a holiday which is tailor made by us to your requirements, please call our Sales team, or visit your travel agent or our website for further information about services and prices. We will be happy to provide you with an up to date quote. 16. Travel Information and documents After booking you will receive an invoice with any important information relevant to the destination you are visiting. We strongly recommend that you check the details and read the information. Approximately 10-14 days before departure you will receive your flight/ e-ticket together with an itinerary. However, in the case of late payment and/or late bookings, tickets may be handed to you at the airport on departure. Please ensure that you check the flight timings on your tickets carefully. The correct timings, using the 24hour clock system, may have been adjusted since we published the brochure and since you received your invoice.
flight timings, and days of operation are subject to change. We will advise you of any significant change as soon as we ourselves are informed by the airline. Minor timing changes will be shown on the flight tickets, which you should check carefully when received. Should the changes involve a reduction of your duration, we will offer you a refund of any applicable costs. 20. Water and Electricity Supplies In many of the less sophisticated destinations we feature, the water and electricity services struggle to keep up with the increased demands from tourism. Limited rainfall can put further pressure on their provision. Hotels do everything possible to maintain full services. However, occasional power cuts and/or water restrictions may be experienced. 21. Accommodation in the tropics In many hotels, especially beach resorts ‘insects’ in the rooms (e.g.. cockroaches etc) are almost inevitable. It should by no means be taken as a sign of dirtiness, simply a fact of life in these destinations. Views from some hotel rooms may be partly obscured by palm trees and other vegetation that can grow very quickly in tropical climates. 22. Water sports and other activities Many hotels offer water sports and other sporting activities, in some cases these may be free of charge. Please note that in the interest of your personal safety, the operators of these activities may require that you demonstrate your competence (for example a swimming test) prior to commencement and reserve the right to refuse participation for any reason if they feel this may compromise your or another guest’s safety. 23. Behaviour Most people go on holiday for rest and relaxation, so if in our reasonable opinion or in the opinion of any airline pilot, hotel manager, tour leader or other person in authority, your behaviour is causing danger, damage to property or persistently affecting the enjoyment of others, we reserve the right to terminate your holiday. Should this happen no refund or compensation would be paid.
18. Building work Many hotels and resorts are continuing to develop, sometimes rapidly and intensively and often with little or no advance warning. Whilst we have no control over such work, as a responsible tour operator, it is important to us that you are aware of any significant building/refurbishment work that may be going on during your stay. General refurbishment at hotels is necessary to maintain standards but if we are informed of such work, we will endeavour to notify you of any activity as soon as possible, however near to your departure this may be.
Data Protection Policy Information about you and members of your party, including your names, contact details and any special needs, disabilities or dietary requirements is collected by us when you request information or make a booking with us. You are responsible for ensuring that other members of your party are aware of our booking conditions and this privacy policy and that they consent to your acting on their behalf in your dealings with us. We may disclose this information to our service providers (who may be located outside the UK/EEA) for the purpose of providing you with your travel arrangements and insurance. Only information necessary for this purpose will be disclosed to them. In the case of air travel, it may be mandatory for us to disclose information for security and anti-terrorism purposes and any other purpose imposed on us by governments or airlines. We may use your information for the purposes set out in our data protection registration with the Office of the Information Commissioner. We may disclose the same to companies in the Kuoni Group for business purposes and to companies who act as data processors on our behalf. Some information, for example relating to your religion or health, may be “sensitive personal data” within the meaning of the Data Protection Act 1998. We need this information to cater for your needs, but it is collected on condition that we have your positive consent. If you do not agree to our use of your information, we cannot accept your booking. By making a booking with us, you agree to allow your insurers, their agents and medical staff to disclose relevant information to us in circumstances where we may need to act in the interests of everyone in the group with whom you are travelling. For example, if you contract an infectious illness whilst on holiday, we may need to make special arrangements for you and ensure that you do not return with the group immediately. From time to time we may contact you by post with information about special offers or holidays. If you do not wish to receive such information, please notify us. You have the right to ask us in writing for a data subject access request form to obtain a copy of the information which we hold about you. You will be charged a fee for this.
19. Flight Changes Airlines occasionally may change the type of aircraft used on a particular flight without advance warning. Scheduled and charter
Any request should be addressed to The Company Secretary, Carrier Ltd, No.1 Lakeside, Cheadle, Cheshire SK8 3GW
17. Brochure Accuracy We rigorously check the information given in our brochure about accommodation, resorts, itineraries etc., to ensure it is correct at the time of going to press but in view of the fact that brochures are prepared in advance, advertised facilities may be changed. Therefore changes may be made to the particulars in this brochure at any time before the contract with you is made. In these circumstances we will notify you of changes before you book. However, please bear in mind that hoteliers, restaurateurs, night club owners etc., may wish to maintain or improve their facilities, or even take a break themselves. Flight times, carriers and routes in the brochure are given for guidance only as there may be changes. Final details will be shown on your tickets. Tour, excursion, cruise or safari itineraries may change as a result of local conditions.
