What is the minimum age for overseas weddings? A. The minimum age requirement varies by destination, but is commonly 18 years. See Legal Requirements on page 6 (Africa) and 23 (Indian Ocean). Q. What documentation will I need? A. Please see Legal Requirements on page 6 (Africa) and 23 (Indian Ocean) for a list of documents required, and when and how to present them. Q. What special instructions are there for getting married on safari? A. More and more couples are choosing to get married in unusual places. If you would like to get married on safari in Kenya, please note the following: If you choose a wedding whilst on safari in Kenya, you will need to visit the Registrar Generalâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Office at Sheria House, with your original documents, before the wedding licence can be issued. Sheria House is open from 0830 hours to 1700 hours Monday â&#x20AC;&#x201C; Friday except Kenyan public holidays*. (It is advised that the visit to Sheria House is early in the morning to avoid queues which normally start around 1000 hours). After registration, you will need to be in the country for 3 working days before your wedding can take place. *Public holidays in Kenya are 1 January, 1 May, 1 June, 10 October, 20 October, 12 December, 25 December and 26 December. Easter and Eid holidays are also public holidays but the dates change. If you choose to get married on safari, we would recommend a mid-morning to early afternoon wedding. A late afternoon or evening wedding may incur additional costs as the registrar might have additional expenses. Q. What do I need to consider if I am not British? A. The wedding prices we quote are based on required documentation which are applicable for British citizens only. If one or both of you are not British citizens, it is imperative that you check what specific requirements exist with your own embassy and the local authorities. Please note that it may not be possible for non-UK citizens to get married in East Africa.

AFRICA LEGAL REQUIREMENTS Please note that the items listed below are required for your wedding. Also note that complete and clear photocopies of documents will be required prior to travel. Fax copies are not accepted. It is important that you forward copies of documents NOT LATER than 8 weeks prior to departure to enable us to complete the necessary arrangements in time. PLEASE RETURN CHECKLIST WITH A COPY OF ALL RELEVANT DOCUMENTS FOR BOTH PARTIES. Passport, minimum 6 months validity on return to the UK. Please send 2 original passport size colour photographs each of bride and groom (Zanzibar). Birth Certificate of both parties. Full address of residence of both you and your partner. Details of occupation of both you and your partner. Religion of both you and your partner. The full names, addresses and occupations of the parents of both parties. An affidavit must be provided stating that neither you nor your partner has been married previously, or you have been married and divorced (see below if divorced or widowed). This must be prepared in your country of residence prior to travel. If either you or your partner is divorced: proof of the decree absolute is required. This document must show the court stamp clearly. If either you or your partner is widowed: the former marriage certificate and death certificate of the spouse is required. If either you or your partner has changed your name by deed poll: proof is required that the procedure was followed and completed. If either you or your partner has been adopted: adoption papers need to be produced.

Any relevant documentation you hold which is in any language other than English must be officially translated and be accompanied by the original. NAMIBIA: If there is a pre-nuptial agreement, a certified copy is required. ZAMBIA: An original, certified letter from both parties authorizing Somak (and their agents) to complete and submit the Notice of Marriage on their behalf. The ‘Notice of Marriage’ form will then be submitted to the Local Government Administrator’s Office where a Certificate of no Impediment (CNI) will be issued for production to the person who is to solemnize the marriage. A CNI normally takes 3 weeks to process, although a fast-track service is available at an additional cost – taking only 24-hours. NOTE: ORIGINAL CERTIFIED COPIES of all relevant documents above must be taken with you. AGE REQUIREMENT: Minimum age requirement is 18 years (21 in Southern Africa and Zanzibar). RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS FOR KENYA: You must be resident in Kenya for two working days to complete necessary paperwork. Weddings can only take place after 3 days in Kenya. RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS FOR ZANZIBAR: You can apply for a marriage licence on the second day of being a resident in Zanzibar. We would recommend that you spend 3-4 days before the ceremony so that arrangements can be made comfortably. CEREMONY DETAILS: Ceremonies are arranged from Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) and are conducted by a Registrar. Weddings are not performed on the following days: Good Friday, Easter Monday, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, all public holidays and 20th December to 3rd January inclusive. SOUTH AFRICA: A marriage certificate will take 3 working days after the wedding to process. All details are correct at time of publication. Full checklists will be sent to you for completion prior to proceeding with the wedding arrangements.

NOTE: ORIGINAL CERTIFIED COPIES of all relevant documents above must be taken with you to Seychelles.

It is important that you forward copies of documents NOT LATER than 8 weeks prior to departure to enable us to complete the necessary arrangements in time.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT: You must be a resident of Seychelles for three working days before you apply for a license. We would recommend that you spend four days before the ceremony so that arrangements can be made comfortably.
