Grease, Gears & Grooves is an amazing event that started out in 2009 as a lot party thrown by a bunch of friends, to show off their builds, their wares, drink some PBR & party… wait did I forget to mention party?! In 2011 Iron Age Tattoo, Full Throttle Midwest Magazine and Liquid Illusions have teamed together to present the largest Hot Rod & Custom Motorcycle Showcase in Saint Louis. The event will house hundreds of unique Cars & Bikes as well as top related vendors, shops, & custom builders. Grease, Gears & Grooves is expected to grow into an annual regional destination event that will draw thousands to Saint Louis for a day of fun, music, food & drinks. The cars & bikes will be judged by industry experts. For autos, Best of Show and 1st & 2nd runners up will receive custom trophies created by Bill Bierman of Creative Customs, Pre-69 Traditional Customs, Hot Rods & Rat Rods will be eligible, and for Motorcycles, Best of Show and 1st & 2nd runners up will receive custom trophies created by Darren Williams of Liquid Illusions. Man, if you’re even remotely near St. Louis on July 16th… you know where you need to be. Another event that just keeps growing & growing is the Lake of the Ozarks Bikefest. It’s already in its 5th year, which for all of us here at the FTM office; it seems like just yesterday that Bikefest was incepted. We’re very excited about the Full Throttle Midwest Magazine Passport Run for 2011. And in just a month or so, we will be unveiling the beautiful machine that you or one of your friends can win, just by completing the Passport Run & having a damn good time. OEM vs. Aftermarket

Motorcycle enthusiasts know that after buying a bike, the second most exciting experience is trading out its parts. There are lots of different options for updating and changing the look of your bike. It is important to keep in mind aesthetics, price, and safety. The first option is Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) parts. These are identical to what came on your bike when you bought it, and as such are almost guaranteed to work seamlessly with your bike, and they’ll also already match up with the rest of the appearance of your bike. They should also be trustworthy as far as safety. One thing drivers may not know though is that these parts typically aren’t actually made by the company that sold your bike. Many motorcycle companies (as well as car companies) contract out the opportunity to make parts for their bikes. Riders can save a lot of money by investigating what company actually made the part they need, and purchasing it directly through the company that created it. The second option for replacing or changing parts on your bike is to buy aftermarket parts. Aftermarket parts may be vintage (taken from another bike), or an aesthetic upgrade. They can be worth more, less, or of equal value to the parts already on your bike depending on many different factors, not limited to quality and rarity of the part. Depending on what you need to replace, you may want to buy salvage parts, or, if you want to make an upgrade to your bike’s appearance, you could buy a more expensive part from a store or wholesaler. Aesthetic upgrades are typically done through a store or motorcycle wholesaler. Many of these sales options can be located online as web pages where you can actually view and purchase parts, or locate a parts store close to you. You’ll want to know the exact information about your motorcycle and its requirements before you purchase anything to make sure the pieces are compatible. These types of parts should always be reliable and safe, just make sure they come with a warranty. If you do decide to purchase from a salvage yard you’ll likely save a lot of money. However, you’ll want to check around to evaluate the safety and trustworthiness of your new part, and to make sure you’re getting a fair deal. Also, you’ll need to know a lot about motorcycles to be able to evaluate if the piece that you find will work with what you’re looking for. You should only buy from salvage yards that will offer you a warranty or have an agreeable return policy. Another option is online salvage yards. Currently, there are many websites available to purchase motorcycle parts on which make it easier to track down what you’re looking for and find the best price tag. While online shopping can be convenient and cost effective, make sure that you use a third party pay system like PayPal to protect your financial information. Finally, if you’re not an expert mechanic, don’t try to install your new parts yourself. Improperly installed parts can lead to mechanical malfunctions, damage to your bike, and even crashes. To protect yourself from this possibility, take your new parts to your trusted motorcycle expert and have him check your new parts for compatibility and safety and install them for you.

It’s already June and you wouldn’t know it by the weather in May that’s for sure. It’s only a few months till Missouri’s biggest bike rally Lake of the Ozarks Bikefest. For those of you who think you can wait till the last minute to make reservations, this year you might be in trouble trying to find a place, so if you are planning on going you might want to make plans now. September 15th – 18th 2011 If the weather so far this year hasn’t F^%$ed you up yet, you are indeed one of the lucky ones, and for those who have been either displaced or lost your property and personal items I want to send out my condolences. Hopefully you get your lives back together soon as possible, I know we had damage from two different storms, but it was minor, so hopefully the storm season is gone by the time this goes to print. For all the new riders out there… welcome. I hope you understand that you don’t just get on a street bike and you’re a, in my choice of words, a biker. Because that isn’t the case at all and the longer you ride the more evident it will become, you are going to get a number of new obstacles every time you ride. And as a rider of more than 20 years, I still have new ones. So a good rider is a defensive rider one who not only watches out for things in the road but also knows his or her surroundings, that he also knows and prepares for riding in weather that might be high winds, or rain, hail, even black ice if you ride in cold weather, you see a thunderstorm could pop up at anytime, and trust me they will. You also have to listen when next to a tractor trailer for a loud slapping noise it means he is going to throw a tread and I’m sure you have all seen them laying in the lanes on the highways, but even if you see the treads and avoid them you have to watch out for the cars trying to avoid them, or hit it and throw it up in front of you. And I’m sure that some maybe not all of you say he isn’t telling me something I don’t already know. And maybe I’m not, but what I am telling you is if you freeze up or don’t use your instincts, and by the way you have to trust your instincts then there may not be a second chance. I’m not trying to scare anyone from this sport because I can’t think of a better way to enjoy this country, yea you might hit bad weather on a trip but that’s part of it. There are a lot of fair weather riders but even they will tell you storms pop up at anytime. You have to watch for animals, make sure at intersections people are going to stop, we all know just because there is a stop sign people don’t always stop, the painted lines on the roads when they are wet they become slick, watch applying your front brake to hard in the rain or you will be on your side, watch for uneven surfaces , check your tire pressure as I found out last month at a higher speed I felt the bike waver a little thought it was my shocks so checked them and the pressure in them was low but not empty, the next day going home with big Ed behind me I felt it again , when I got home although the tire didn’t look low I decided to check the pressure which I wouldn’t think would have been low since I ride all year if possible was low only had 20 lbs. of air, definitely not good, and I’m very lucky I did . You see with the pressure that low it could have come off the rim or went flat. Funny thing is a month or two back I put that as a rider tip, guess I should practice what I preach .And there are plenty more things that can happen this is a short list of them, so good luck and welcome. The very second information leaves the mouth of the orator and is processed by the audience, be that audience one or many, it becomes tainted. And in its rebirth is almost certainly twisted either by mistake of recollection or by pure intention for reasons known only to the person passing on the tale. We have all played the game where one person in a sizable group is given a detailed sentence to pass on through a whisper to the next person. Then that person whispers it to next and he the next and so on until the last person receiving the information is asked to repeat it aloud. Inevitably what the last person says is hardly recognizable when compared to the original sentence. The interesting thing is, if it only takes 10 to 15 people in a single room to completely mutate a tiny bit of information, imagine how utterly confused and corrupt information you hear from a friend, coworker or stranger on the street may be after going through countless avenues, morphing as it’s passed on. Now, think about how irreversibly convoluted and contrived national news or politics and important issues of the day must be. The fact that not only can mistakes be made, but information is also purposely slanted and spun into whatever best serves the news station, political party, religious faction or big business that is spewing the “news” at the moment. It’s very hard to take an educated stance on any subject given the fact that what you are repeating or defending is the product of lies, errors and intentionally misleading information. It’s this very reason that I do not involve myself in politics and religious affairs where the subject matter is derived of murky half truths at best. The only thing you can ever be sure of are things you yourself are involved in or are part of. Even then, the more people involved the more your liable to be mired down in a collective barrage of lies cover ups and misinformation. Benjamin Franklin said it best when he said “BELIEVE NONE OF WHAT YOU HEAR AND HALF OF WHAT YOU SEE”. Only I know the truth of who I am and what I stand for. I’m still waiting for the day when someone in the grand scheme of things will burst through the wall of bureaucratic bullshit and tell the truth. Last month my good friend Andy Northup and I took a trip to the Wheels Through Time Museum in Maggie Valley, NC. The museum was founded by Dale Walksler in 1993, and is home to over 300 of the rarest and most historic American made motorcycles. While there I spent a couple hours wandering through the building trying to get a at least a glimpse at all of the two wheel treasures. There was everything from hillclimbers, board track racers, police bikes to bobbers, choppers, and even one-of-a-kind bikes. A perfect utopia for any American motorcycle enthusiast. So whether you’re just passing through or even planning a special trip, the Wheels Through Time Museum is a must see and you won’t be disappointed. Big thanks to Dale’s son, Matt, for opening up the museum during closed hours for us. Also, big thanks to Dale and the rest of the crew for the dedication and for sharing such an amazing collection with us and everyone to enjoy.

Down time Over the years we have done countless rallies and events but that’s no surprise, however what you might find surprising is the shit we think up during this time. No matter how big or small a motorcycle event is there is always those long stretches of hours when it’s simply dead. So what do you do, besides drink that is, sometimes, ok most of the time. During these long stretches we tend to think up different ideas for the company. Yeah yeah its hard to believe that we can actually think. Now most of the time it’s just dumb stuff and we’ve had some winners like the time we thought making sports jerseys like football,basketball and hockey jerseys would be big sellers. After spending thirty five thousand dollars and ending up with two years worth of inventory we painfully realized not a big hit for us. Recently we were at a rally that proved to be very interesting to say the least. We never have any trouble with MCs and here’s a hint you won’t either if you mind your own business and keep your trap shut. Because business was a little slow and there were as many 1%ers as there were police we just wanted to keep our heads down so what did we do? Of course we Started coming up with shit. Actually we had two ideas one not so good but pretty funny and one really good one. Ok so as most of you know we have a strip pole mounted on our Streetglide, now Stripperglide, using a modified HarleyDavidson quick release luggage rack. In the past we have as many as 3 little hotties dancing on it all at once these chicks probably weighed a hindered pounds each so we thought... humm what if we put one three thundered pounder on that sucker? Thankfully there weren’t any females that met that criteria, however we did find a volunteer. Who you might ask? Or is it whom? Whatever. You all know and love this guy it was none other than Big Rick from Geico insurance. Now Rick tops three hundred pounds easily. Without hesitation the big man jumped up on the pole and, yes, started dancing. Pictures don’t lie and besides Johnny having post traumatic syndrome afterwards the son of a bitch held up. We think the motor company should use this as a testament to their quality. So what was the good idea? Let’s be honest we are getting to be old bastards and being on the road is beating the piss out of us, one more than the other, you can decide which one that is. Also no matter how hard we try we can only do a finite number of events each year. So how do we get spread the gospel of Strip Club Chopper? Answer state licensees yep just like Subway, Mac Donalds, Harley-Davidson etc. A Strip Club Choppers in every state. Yes that’s the goal. Since this little brain child evolved several have signed on several states. So if your into bikes, girls and money here’s how you can become the Strip Club Choppers of your state. You need 5k as the initial investment $2,500.00 of which goes to your first merchandise order. After that order at least 5k worth of product from us every year and you can keep the license of your state. Yep that’s it! If that’s to complicated it’s not for you. to the big mountain run by Rod Davis
The Big Mountain Run (BMR) is as grass roots event as it gets. This is the third year for it, and you will not see any baggers or campers there, I mean none. You will see a lot of tents and a lot of real deal choppers. The Big Mountain Run is located in Reliance TN. This is in the mountains with 10 miles of very windy tree caped roads to get to the camp ground where an amazing river runs through and no cell phone signal! Paradise my friends!! I’ve gone every year but this year I had a problem, I had no scooter to get me and the young lady there. So I set out to build a no b.s. chopper in 2 weeks; something I don’t do, as any customer of mine might tell ya, it might take me 2 weeks to return a phone call, let alone build a complete bike. It was a clapped out stock 1974 FL shovelhead with a blown up motor. So I set the goal 2 weeks, bike will be done to carry me and my chick and we’re headed to the mountains of TN about 450 miles one way. I won’t bore you with a lot of details of the bike, I basically used up a lot of parts I had laying around and the stock parts of the bike, I hard tailed the frame to be more like a stock panhead frame and rebuilt the motor the way I like ‘em to carry us there, and made it all work together. I got the bike done at 1:30 am and rode it around the block and slept for a few hours and started strapping our tent and supplies to it. By about 7:00a my brother was at the shop on his 1975 shovel all packed up and ready and we were all off in the breeze. No chase truck no rock star BS just two old shovels jammin’ gears down the highway; the way it used to be and is now forgotten. We made it there by that evening with relatively no problems. We all forgot about the hassles of life for the weekend and enjoyed the laid back feeling the mountains give you and of course partied like mad at night. Sunday morning we were up at dawn packin’ up to head home. All the stars aligned and we made it home with no problems. That makes up to be about 1,000 miles on a 2 week chopper build. This all happened with no real plan, no year in advance reservations for some condo, none of the stuff that is pushed down every Americans throat everyday that we need to do to have a good time. Put a little faith in the wind!!

Tijuana , besides being the most visited border of the world, having donkeys disguised as zebras and being a haven for drugs, cheap prostitution and crime, sometimes can be the cradle from some of the most under rated Rock n’ Roll in Mexico. I mean, even Santana learned how to play guitar in the downtown strip clubs and no one else, besides we locals, know that. This statement can be well defined on the all balls out chord attack of DFMK’s Rn’R sound. Started a few years back (three to be exact) by Marco and Angel, as a Hardcore Punk super group with an unafraid attempt to display a little 70’s riff based rock influence (ala Black Sabbath). There were a lot of line-up changes back in those days, including people entering and leaving the band like it was a fucking cheap motel, leaving only Marco and Angel as the original remaining members. It took a lot substance experimentation, wild partying, prison and detox hospitals to get the band back on track and with a sound set on simple Rock n’ Roll with that Punk Rock attitude. Having gone after all that trouble, finally they found a lasting and solid line up on Marco’s little bro Alex teaming up with his previously mentioned elder on the rhythm section. A gnarly dude that goes by a lot of aliases, but better known as Boti or Tacubo joined later on second guitar, which brought a cleaner, more Ramonesque guitar approach with a slight touch of surf to the band’s sound. And last but not least, the vocalist and the main man on stage, Mr. Cap (aka Cachuchin), unashamed to reveal a soulful and emotive singing style, much similar to early proto-punk singers, but in its own unique way. With these five elements they set out to go beyond the limits of all time low Rn’R standards. Playing around all the local neighborhoods relentlessly and putting out a self-released first demo entitled “Manual Practico Para la Autodestruccion”. Translates to “A Practical Guide to Self-Destruction”. Lyrical themes range from pretty much each member’s personal experience. You don’t get political punk statements, youth anthems or whiny songs about love and break ups. You get simply a straightforward, I don’t give a fuck attitude. The Rn’R roar and howl of DFMK is as potent as the Detroit and New York scene in the early 70’s, but with a distinctive Tijuana vibe and sound. The songs are wilder than the over produced music of today. And much like their predecessor’s (The Stooges, New York Dolls and MC5) records, they expose the state of mind of the youth and urban tribes of what Paris refers to as the most decadent city in the world without sacrificing the melody. But along with giving folks some down time to wrench on the scooters, it’s also prime time for indoor car and bike shows. Folks from Indoor/Outdoo r Productions host the annual Rod & Custom and Motorcycle show every year at the QCCA Expo Center in downtown Rock Island, Illinois, and this year’s show brought in an over abundance of beautiful cars and killer bikes. A wide selection of cars was on display from T-buckets and Woodys, to Camaros and Mustangs. While the 4-wheeled customs are great eye candy too, most folks reading this magazine probably want to hear about the bikes… Numerous exhibitors rolled in some beautiful scooters from rigid Ironheads and Evo choppers, and tricked out baggers to old Triump h bobbers. But a fellow named Dennis Begyn took a lot of attention when he rolled in his twin pulse jet powered bike. Yeah, “twin” pulse jet power, because I guess 1 jet motor isn’t enough. But if you know Dennis, you know he can’t go fast enough! DJ music filled the main Expo hall all weekend, with vendors galore, a NASCAR simulator, and local radio hosts Dwyer and Michaels rolled in with a bunch of their classic car calendar models signing free calendars and posing for photos through out the show. New this year was the pre-registration party for Torque Fest (www.torquefest.com), which was held April 29th-30th in Maquoketa, Iowa. Torque Fest is a traditional rat rod gathering, which is only in it’s 2nd year running, and has already outgrow n the previous location. Needless to say, the show’s popularity is taking off like crazy! The North hall of the Expo Center was opened up just for the pre-party, where traditional rods were on display, along with traditional choppers and bobbers, with Rock-a-Billy bands playing Friday and Saturday nights, and vintage car movies playing on the big screen. Show awards were handed out at 2PM Sunday, with a lovely little trophy girl named Lisa keeping things looking good. To help keep the traditional hot rod style alive, The King Pins car club also handed out a piece of artwork, with which they also added their own pin striping, to the car of their choice among the main show contestants. Next year’s, show will likely be the 3rd weekend in January, and surely be held at the QCCA Expo Center once again. hat do you need to wear when riding your motorcycle? I’ve witnessed people riding in shorts, no shirts, flip flops and mini-skirts. Hell, one guy had nothing on but a band-aid! He would need a lot more than a band-aid if he met the ground at any speed. People, you need protection from injury. Who cares what other people think. If you ride, It’s not a matter of “if it’s going to happen�. It’s a matter of “when it happens�! If it’s too hot to ride with protective clothing, then it’s too hot to ride. There is nothing like rapidly skidding down the black hell with visions of I am going to die while leaving most of your skin on the street! Think about wearing protective clothing while riding your motorcycle. Injuries from falling (impact) or abrasions from skidding can be very painful if you survive them. The initial pain is nothing in comparison to months of surgical skin grafts and infection. Protective clothing can play an important part in reducing your injury level. There is some great looking motorcycle clothing on the market today. However, not all of it offers an adequate level of protection. A greater percentage of motorcycle clothing marketed these days is made cheaply and sold for high dollar. In Europe, they have a standard for motorcycle clothing. For it be lawfully sold as “safety� clothing, it has to pass a series of European standards and bear the CE mark. They extensively test the performance of this clothing to determine how it holds up to abrasion, tearing and impact. Once it passes the test, the manufacturer is allowed to sell the motorcycle protective clothing with the CE mark. Unfortunately, we have no such regulation in the US and have to pay attention to what we are buying. Most motorcycle injuries occur below the belt. Legs and feet are extremely vulnerable to injury when riding a motorcycle. Abrasion resistant pants will save your ass. I have a hard time understanding why a person would ride in polyester pants. This material will melt into your skin during a slide and is impossible to remove at the hospital. Check pants for reinforcement at the knees and hips. Look into Kevlar reinforced jeans which hold up much better than normal jeans while skidding across asphalt at 70 m.p.h.. Here is an interesting fact. According to the European standard abrasion test, normal jeans last 0.5 seconds, while protective motorcycle pants will last 5 seconds or more. Think about 5 seconds of protection versus about 0.5 seconds. If you have to think very hard, you have been riding your motorcycle without a helmet again. Go with the Kevlar protected, re-enforced jeans. Make sure you wear decent over the ankle footwear. Boots should be made of thick material, with a sole that can flex with the foot and the ability to resist crushing forces. This type of footwear will stay on your feet and help protect them during the multiple impacts suffered in a crash. Ankle protection works well in case your bike goes down with your leg caught underneath it. Straps are always better than laces. How many times has a shoe lace caught on a peg when coming to a stop. Shoes have a tendency to come off during the first impact and will not continue to protect your feet while they are lying in the street. Thick leather is always a great choice.

The history of material normally used for motorcycle protective clothing has been leather. The thick nylon and other synthetic materials will work well also. You apply the same principles to jackets. You are looking for hard wearing jackets, preferably thick leather not the fancy thin fashion leather on some jackets. Pay attention to the stitching which should be uniform with no dropped stitches. All your stress areas, your elbows and shoulders should be reinforced, ideally with some impact protection included. Motorcycle-specific jackets are thoughtfully designed for riders. They don’t turn into parachutes when you’re riding. I can’t help but laugh at a clown scootin’ down the road with a parachute. It offers no protection and lacks the potential to provide warmth. Why wear it?...Oh, I know, it looks cool when the bike comes to a stop! Good jackets have zippers tucked away to avoid scratching your gas tank. They’re designed for abrasion resistance and some have armor and padding to soak up impact forces. They also have pockets in the right places to carry the necessities, if you get my drift. Want to keep those fingers attached? You must have a decent pair of gloves. Your hands are so important in daily life it’s unthinkable to leave them unprotected on a ride. Almost anything is better than going barehanded, but look for gloves that cover your hands completely and are built for motorcycle riding (e.g. work gloves are no good). It’s our instinct to stick our hands out when we fall, so get something that looks like it’ll survive being dragged on the pavement. Many gloves have reinforced palms and knuckles; gauntlet-style gloves feature a full wrist enclosure for even more protection. Kevlar is especially good for this kind of abrasion resistance, but reinforced leather works well too. Impact protection for the spine, elbows and knees can be bought separately. If you buy it, make sure you wear it. Depending on your personality, it might be best to buy motorcycle protective clothing with a degree of impact protection included so that you know when you put on your jacket and pants, the protection is there and you don’t have to remember to put it on. Why spend big money on a new bike and nothing to protect the most important part...YOU! The bike can be replaced. Invest in protective motorcycle clothing.

A Few Words From St. Clair Co. ABATE of Illinois

It is said the that if you want to boil a live frog, don’t just throw it in the boiling pot; it will jump out the moment it hits the hot water...set it in cool water and slowly turn up the heat - it happily will sit there, never realizing it is being boiled until it is hard-boiled like an egg. The same thing goes with the erosion of our civil liberties and those immutable rights listed in the constitution. For those who are frog-like, ABATE fights to protect you rights as motorcyclists. Think of it: 2nd amendment rights are on the verge of being decimated by the Supreme Court that still hasn’t clearly decided if the right to own guns lies with the individual or with the state (in the form of a state run militia). The logic of this escapes me as with other issues about the Bill of Rights - all 10 of them and not just the other nine with the 2nd included as some sort of an aberration. The Bill of Rights was written to protect the rights of individuals from the government, not the right of the government to limit freedoms of the individual. 4th amendment rights are being assailed by California with the blessing of the federal appeals court in allowing the state to come into people’s homes without warrants of any kind and do random searches based on the fact that these people have applied for state aid...not receiving it mind you, just having applied for it. Trampling the rights of poor people who have no money to seek legal protection is halfway down the slippery slope that will come to affect all citizenry regardless of circumstance or social status. 1st amendment protection does not seem to apply any more in Illinois, California, New York City and many other areas of the country as left wing safety-nazi zealots outlaw smoking, trans-fat use, and the opening of fast-food restaurants in certain areas. The government maintains it has the right to force its own brand of health on citizens who up to now had a right to choose their own type of personal (legal?) vice. No one makes you use tobacco; eat donuts or Big Macs if you don’t want to. If you don’t like that stuff - don’t go to the places that serve them!!! A business man/woman invests their own money into a business establishment with absolutely no guarantee by the government of success or profit...that individual, in a free society, has the right (regardless of it being denied by the government, i.e. misuse of power) to run that business as each sees fit. The same applies to seat belt laws, helmet laws, the current EPA laws as applied to motorcycles (the right to build and/or repair), the right to travel on motorcycles through certain municipalities/neighborhoods, the type of motorcycle you choose to ride, etc.-etc… The government is needed only to supply/regulate those things that an individual cannot do on their own in a free society - build roads, schools, provide protection from extreme lawlessness, protection from foreign invaders. Beyond that the government oversteps its authority in a free society, extending unwarranted powers and controls over the individual. Once overstepping that authority given them by the people, the government goes beyond existing as a necessary evil and becomes the tyrant that thousands of Americans have fought and died in foreign lands in all past wars. Like the communist regimes of the ‘60’s, 70’s, 80’s that your grade school teachers taught you to fear as a real-life boogey-man, it becomes the very exact same all intrusive, overly protective Big Brother that it sets itself up to protect you from. To look on government as such and to agree with that particular mindset is to give yourself over to the propaganda put out by insurance companies, corporate bureaucracy, government groups, and safety-nazi zealots. Those in ABATE understand these losses of freedom better than most and it is this sort of message that those in ABATE need to get out to the rest of the uninformed, disinterested public. If it does not affect them directly and all at once most people don’t realize the heat is being turned up on them and like the frog in the pot are doomed to lose that most precious to them without ever being aware of what is happening as it happens to them: we are talking about the loss of your freedom (if you haven’t figured it out by now). Join ABATE - Rejoin again & again, each year - Get your friends to join. $25.00 a year, it is the best $25 you’ll ever spend. For crying out loud...it only amounts to 1 beer per month...don’t you think your freedom is worth at least that much?

you were in the vicinity of Cuba, MO around the end of April, I’m sure you caught yourself asking, where in the world did all of these Can-Am Spyders come from? You know what…….. that is exactly where they came from, all over the world. “Spyderfest” is steadily becoming a very large event. Thanks to RickyLen & Vanessa Damouth of Cowtown USA in Cuba, MO along with the help of what they call their MO-Gang, this is a week-end filled with misc. activities, not only for Spyder riders but, for anyone who rides a bike of any kind. With a chili cook off, passport run, band in the grove, dinner banquet, a drawing for prizes, tour of the murals you were sure to enjoy this week-end. If you were the lucky winner of the passport run, you were awarded a custom paint job by Farris Customs in St. James, MO. I also understand there was an activity, to help raise money for “Backpacks for Kids.” I know some of you are familiar with this but, for those of you who no longer have children in school, I will help you out. There are some children very unfortunate who don’t have enough to eat on week-ends & when they return to school they have trouble keeping up with their studies & staying awake. They’ve found out if these children go home on Friday with a backpack filled with healthy snacks they return Monday morning full of energy & ready to learn. This is a great cause & when you can combine having fun with your fellow bikers & helping our children, you really deserve a pat on the back. A very dear friend of RickyLen’s, Ike Ebersold, who is a member of the Oak Ridge Boys band, donated a guitar for one lucky winner. This was a very special prize as it was autographed by each of the Oaks. Wouldn’t that be something special to go home with. I asked if I might have the guitar pick but, I guess they didn’t hear me or something, maybe I should yell out next time. Next year I might just ride my bike thru the banquet, bet they hear me then!! Just kidding……..
The Spyders attending were in every color you can imagine. A lot of them have spiders, webs or both painted on them. Others have something unique for their theme, to show off their personality or maybe in remembrance of a loved one who is gone. I must say there was one young lady who came up to talk to me & I decided she might be of interest to all of you also. I had noticed her spyder several times during the day for it is very hard to overlook. I’m talking about Jodie Kemp from Chillicothe, IL. She told me she’s been riding since 2006. About 1 year after she purchased her 2008 Can Am Spyder RS she had it custom painted. Like most of us she wanted to express her personality. Jodie refers to herself as a crazy cosmetologist, who has collected cow items for years. So when it came to a paint job it was a cow she wanted & a cow she got, as you can see by the pictures. Jodie, I must say you are a delight to talk to & hope to see you again someday. This was just one of the many bikers I had the pleasure of spending time with. These spyder people range in all ages. I’ve even seen entire families riding them. I must say I had a great time. I know from the smiles on most of their faces they will be back for another year at this fun event. I can also bet that next year will be even bigger. I would like to congratulate RickyLen, Vanessa & son Colton as I understand they have an addition to their family, Miss Charli Damouth. I can’t wait to meet her. I love hearing from all of you & especially enjoy talking to you. Hope to see a lot of you at Grease, Gears & Grooves on July 16th. Till then ride safe!
