Temporary exhibition
Miró and the Object From 29 October 2015 to 17 January 2016 Curated by William Jeffett Follow this exhibition on social media: #MiróObjecte
This monographic exhibition is the first specific inquiry into the role of the object in Joan Miró’s work. Through a selection of over one hundred works, it shows the importance of objects throughout his entire career, from pictorial representations in the early still lifes to the incorporation of objects in the works through techniques such as collage. Miró’s exhaustive research into objects also led him to explore the possibilities of ceramics and sculpture. Miró and the Object shows that Joan Miró was not just a painter but an artist who experimented with a wide range of unconventional materials, and that in the process of challenging painting and assuming a different conception of the object, he helped to bring about a radical change in the perception of art. The Fundació has a major collection of paintings, drawings, and sculptures that takes visitors on a journey through Joan Miró’s oeuvre and, at each stage, illustrates his desire to go beyond conventional painting. The paintings related to Surrealism and the works based on the Spanish Civil War are particularly noteworthy due to their artistic and poetic significance. Other important pieces include the large canvases Miró produced from the late seventies onwards, which are characterised by large fields of colour and free gesture. Many of these works were donated by Miró when the Fundació first opened in 1975, while others are donations and loans from friends and relatives. Thanks to all of them, it can now be considered one of the best collections of Joan Miró’s work anywhere in the world.

Alfons Borrell. Works and Days Curated by Oriol Vilapuig Follow this exhibition on social media: #AlfonsBorrell
The paintings of Alfons Borrell (Barcelona, 1931) have gradually acquired the status of a solid and highly expressive body of work of great intensity. Alfons Borrell. Work and Days brings together over one hundred works spanning sixty years of intense, constant work, with a non-chronological approach that adopts the form and methodology of an essay. The exhibition is divided into seven areas of study that offer new readings and confrontations and reveal some of the artist’s attitudes and his vision of art as a life experience.
A publication is available at the Fundació bookshop, with texts by Oriol Vilapuig, Carles Guerra, Jèssica Jaques, Álvaro Siza, and Alfons Borrell.

Nadala Art de foc, art de badoc Rafel G. Bianchi and Gina Giménez
Every Christmas the Fundació Joan Miró hosts a specifically commissioned installation by an artist who interprets traditional aspects of the festive season. This year Rafel G. Bianchi and Gina Giménez present an installation that plays on the contrast between winter traditions and the modern, Mediterranean architecture of the Fundació building. “ If looking after the tió implied the gift of light and warmth, the movement of the flame and the flickering of the embers entrances us.” Rafel G. Bianchi and Gina Giménez

Aleydis Rispa Planets and Stars
Joaquim Gomis, the first president of the Fundació Joan Miró and an amateur photographer, followed the construction of Sert’s building up close.
Aleydis Rispa presents a series of positive photograms that form a cosmology of planets and stars. The images were produced from 1997 to 2001, coinciding with the discovery of several extrasolar planets by the Hubble space telescope. They highlight the artist’s fascination with the space race and also pay tribute to Joan Miró and the importance of stars in his artistic language.

When Lines are Time Curated by MartĂ Manen
The exhibition series When Lines are Time reflects on aspects related to temporality and production in artistic practices. The four exhibitions in the series revolve around the eternal and the transitory. Together, they form a snapshot of creation and exhibition processes today.

Rubén Grilo
Sofia Hultén
Rubén Grilo launches the series When Lines are Time with an exhibition that approaches the field of ideas through a mentality bordering on industrial production. The project presents artistic materials that aren’t exactly finished pieces, display systems that could be artworks, and mass-produced consumer images full of human error and gesture.
Swedish artist Sofia Hultén presents an exhibition in which objects contain the possibility of multiple stories. Along similar lines to speculative fiction and to the idea of juxtaposition, Sofia Hultén’s videos and sculptures offer timelines with narrative options based on a questioning gaze that challenges everything around us.
