New Presentation of the Collection
From 9 April Opening: 8 April 2016, at 7 pm
The Fundació Joan Miró is renewing its collection of Miró’s works. As of 9 April, the collection will be enhanced by the acquisition of a series of works from private collections, and it will return to the rooms that the architect Josep Lluís Sert and Joan Miró designed to house the artist’s works.
4
The hope of a condemned man I, II and III Joan Miró, 1974
This new presentation, which introduces some significant innovations and reinstates key works from the collection of the Fundació, offers an overview of all the stages of Miró’s artistic career. Through the strong connection that the artist forged with his origins, visitors will discover the universal nature of his work. The new approach to the collection emphasises the uniqueness of the Fundació: a Mediterranean space in which art, architecture, and the landscape are intertwined. New Presentation of the Collection

The Fundació has a major collection of paintings, drawings, and sculptures that takes visitors on a journey through Joan Miró’s oeuvre and, at each stage, illustrates his desire to go beyond conventional painting. The paintings related to Surrealism and the works based on the Spanish Civil War are particularly noteworthy due to their artistic and poetic significance. Other important pieces include the large canvases Miró produced from the late seventies onwards, which are characterised by large fields of colour and free gesture. Many of these works were donated by Miró when the Fundació first opened in 1975, while others are donations and loans from friends and relatives. Thanks to all of them, it can now be considered one of the best collections of Joan Miró’s work anywhere in the world.

Miró and the Object Curated by William Jeffett Follow this exhibition on social media: #MiróObjecte
This monographic exhibition is the first specific inquiry into the role of the object in the work of Joan Miró. Through a selection of over one hundred works, it shows the importance of objects throughout his entire career, from pictorial representations in the early still lifes to the incorporation of objects into the works through techniques such as collage. Miró’s exhaustive research into objects also led him to explore the possibilities of ceramics and sculpture. Miró and the Object shows that Joan Miró was not just a painter but an artist who experimented with a wide range of unconventional materials, and that in the process of challenging painting and assuming a different conception of the object, he helped to bring about a radical change in the perception of art. 10
Until 16 January Guided tour of the exhibition Catalan: Saturdays at 11 am Spanish: Saturdays at 12.30 pm Free activity

Nadala Art de foc, art de badoc Rafel G. Bianchi and Regina Giménez Follow this project on social media: #artdefoc
Every Christmas, the Fundació Joan Miró hosts a specifically commissioned installation by an artist who interprets a traditional aspect of the festive season. “ We offer up this scene as a new Christmas story. A story about the hearth, to be read in the glow of the light and the warmth of the heat of the fireside. Or maybe not. Because what are Christmas stories if not fantasy? Chance, which led to its discovery, takes on a leading role. A discovery that brought happiness first, and then responsibility. An action that precedes communal celebration, song, the distraction of fear. As of that moment, fire represents that which humanises and identifies us. We ceased to be animals.” Rafel G. Bianchi and Regina Giménez

Photography in the Foyer

Since 2012, the Fundació Joan Miró programmes photography exhibitions to disseminate the Fons Gomis archive and the work of other photographers who, like Joaquim Gomis, combined photographic practice with other professional activities.
Until 17 January
From 19 January to 8 May
Aleydis Rispa Planets and Stars
Irena Visa Casa Bloc
Aleydis Rispa presents a series of positive photograms that form a cosmology of planets and stars. The images were produced from 1997 to 2001, coinciding with the discovery of several extrasolar planets by the Hubble space telescope. They highlight the artist’s fascination with the space race and also pay tribute to Joan Miró and the importance of stars in his artistic language.
The Casa Bloc is a rationalist social housing building designed by GATCPAC architects near the end of the Second Republic, supposedly for workers from the factories at Sant Andreu. Before the inauguration, the Franco regime allocated most of the apartment to military families instead. Photographer Irena Visa documents some of the current occupants, the last generation of the first inhabitants of the Casa Bloc.

When Lines are Time Programme curated by MartĂ Manen
The exhibition series When Lines are Time reflects on aspects related to temporality and production in artistic practices. The four exhibitions in the series revolve around the eternal and the transitory. Together, they form a snapshot of creation and exhibition processes today. 16
From 17 March to 19 June El Palomar Mariokissme and R. Marcos Mota STILL FROM TRUCKING, 2015
Until 6 March Sofia Hultén Swedish artist Sofia Hultén presents an exhibition in which objects contain the possibility of multiple stories. Along similar lines to speculative fiction and to the idea of juxtaposition, Sofia Hultén’s videos and sculptures offer timelines with narrative options based on a questioning gaze that challenges everything around us.
El Palomar is an artistic space, a work environment, a political positioning and an institutional reframing. Located in a loft in Poble-sec, it revises notions of identity and genre. Espai 13 and El Palomar converge in the exhibition programme When Lines are Time to reconsider new approaches to understanding exhibitions, and the relationship between exhibitions and ways of looking at art.
