Infinite Sequence

Infinite Sequence is an exhibition dedicated to the work of Ignasi Aballí, winner of the 2015 Joan Miró Prize. It proposes a stroll through a selection of pieces by Catalonia’s foremost conceptual artist to allow visitors to gradually discover some of the key aspects of his oeuvre. The presentation of the selected works eludes a strict retrospective format to give way to an exhibition narrative with moments and spaces that relate to one another. Together, they evolve as a composition that, in its conclusion, points to the idea of infinite continuity and open repetition, as referred to in the title of the exhibition itself. The exhibition starts with pieces dealing with temporality, followed by a room dedicated to Aballí’s work on colour, and by another room dedicated to absence and invisibility, to conclude with a projection room featuring his video work on processes of semantic slippage. The exhibition includes works from the 1990s to the present as well as a number of new productions.

Publication available in the Fundació’s bookshop, with texts by Martina Millà, Arnau Pons and Joana Masó and Guillaume Désanges.

The Fundació Joan Miró is renewing its collection of Miró’s works. As of 9 April, the collection will be enhanced by the arrival of a series of paintings from private collections, and it will return to the rooms that the architect Josep Lluís Sert and Joan Miró designed to house the artist’s works. This new presentation, which introduces some significant innovations and reinstates key works from the collection of the Foundation, offers an overview of all the stages of Miró’s artistic career. Through the strong connection that the artist forged with his origins, visitors will discover the universal nature of his work. The new approach to the collection marks the 40th anniversary of the Fundació Joan Miró and underlines its uniqueness as a Mediterranean space in which art, architecture and the landscape are intertwined. The production and the intensely personal language of one of the most influential artists of the 20th century can be explored in the eight different areas devoted to the new collection, each of which illustrates key concepts in Miró’s thinking and his oeuvre: The Land; Beyond Painting; Violence, Escape; Anonymity; Poetry and Silence; Anti-Painting; Sobreteixims and Art and Everyday Life. Since 2012, the Fundació Joan Miró programmes photography exhibitions to disseminate the Fons Gomis archive and the work of other photographers who, like Joaquim Gomis, combined photographic practice with other professional activities.

Until 8 May

From 10 May to 18 September

Irena Visa Casa Bloc The Casa Bloc is a rationalist social housing building designed by GATCPAC architects near the end of the Second Republic, supposedly for workers from the factories at Sant Andreu. Before the inauguration, the Franco regime allocated most of the apartment to military families instead. Photographer Irena Visa documents some of the current occupants, the last generation of the first inhabitants of the Casa Bloc.

Joaquim Gomis Gimeno Foundry In the mid-forties, amateur photographer Joaquim Gomis visited Gimeno Foundry with his friend Joan Miró. At the foundry, Gomis found material paying tribute to the leaders of Franco’s dictatorship, as well as remnants of artistic movements prior to the Republic. Gomis was able to photograph the improvised assemblage with the subtle irony that this highly restrictive period called for.

Espai 13 From 17 March to 19 June El Palomar Mariokissme and R. Marcos Mota

Programme curated by MartĂ Manen The exhibition series When Lines are Time reflects on aspects related to temporality and production in artistic practices. The four exhibitions in the series revolve around the eternal and the transitory. Together, they form a snapshot of creation and exhibition processes today.

20

El Palomar’s project for the Espai 13 exhibition programme When Lines are Time revolves around the creation of a critical moment and its subsequent disintegration. That moment is a party, a festive performance and music marathon that celebrates queer thought and politic. COURTESY OF EL PALOMAR

When Lines are Time

El Palomar is an artistic space, a work environment, a political positioning and an institutional reframing. Located in a loft in Poble-sec, it revises notions of identity and genre.

Symposium ‘When Lines are Time’

A space for multiple time, a gesture, a movement, a connection, a dialogue, and a choreography. The last exhibition in the Espai 13 series When Lines are Time explores the possibility of constantly learning and unlearning in situations that are subject to rules, such as dance. When somebody teaches you to dance, you decide whether to allow yourself to be led, or negotiate a temporary relationship based on surprise, complicity, and fleeting glances.

This symposium, organised in conjunction with the exhibition series of the same name, aims to offer a pause for thought and reflection. The idea is to share points of view and languages that don’t always add up, different types of information, and overviews of possible ways of understanding work in art and of the need to reconsider temporality. The programme combines academic elements and performative actions. Free activity. Prior registration required: confirmacions@fmirobcn.org
