The album Appendix I to the C贸rdoba 2016 cultural programme
Cities are the vital space for contemporary man: one can live in them without feeling them; remain in them without loving them. But in Córdoba, one cannot walk round a single corner, tread on a single cobble, touch a single stone, without arousing the most essential feelings of life. This undertaking, therefore, is a major challenge, in seeking to make Córdoba known. It is a heartfelt undertaking, that endeavours to capture the city’s light, its smell, its people, its bustle, its silence. Strolling around, meeting, enjoying Córdoba for twenty-four hours. A stroll beginning by night on the banks of the Guadalquivir, then crossing the river into the Old Town with its vast heritage, presided over by the Mosque-Cathedral; afterwards, moving up into presentday Córdoba, through its streets and squares, enjoying its fiestas, seeing its children, its old people; and ending the following day, having glimpsed the most essential thing: the city’s life.
This unique, comprehensive undertaking would not have been possible without the help of around fifty photographers – professionals and amateurs – who live in Córdoba and provided us with their best pictures of the city. They have sought to capture the city’s light from a broad range of perspectives: for the album contains not only local people’s views of themselves, but also the view of photographers from all over Spain and from abroad – from South Africa to Portugal, from Mexico to Germany – who have been welcomed into the city as though they belonged to it. Like the bid as a whole, this joint publication is the work of many people. The result is a mosaic of postcards, images captured through different eyes and from diverse standpoints This is our city, its light; its soul.
