Who we are We are a FUNDAP program that was constituted in 2001, and dedicated to the design, validation, and execution of health projects oriented to: 1) the generation of capacities in the population for the prevention of diseases, through the training of qualified personnel for basic care in health; and 2) primary medical attention, emphasizing maternal and child health and education in family nutrition, respecting the right to life and human dignity.
What we do Our goal is to generate a culture for the prevention of diseases and self-care, as basic elements for human development. Regulated by the motto “knowing how to save lives”, we focus our initiatives on the prevention of diseases and on the generation of basic conditions that allow individuals and families to access new levels of development. The two columns on which our actions are built are: the training of health agents who can meet basic needs at the community level and work with families as the first responsible parties for the health of its members.
How we work With the vision of educating the population in preventive health and providing accessible health services to the lowest income sectors, the Healthcare Program has established its permanent actions grouped into two sectors: the health education sector that seeks the qualification of personnel in health and maternal and child specialization; the primary health care sector, whose strategic axes are maternal and child care, the provision of first aid and basic care, health education and family nutrition.
Where we work The Healthcare Program focuses its work efforts on the lower income sectors, especially on the rural and semi-urban populations of southwestern Guatemala. The territory served covers an area of 34,374 km2, which represent 31.57% of the national territory.

Healthcare initiatives
Nursing Assistants This program offers a model of technical education in health, recognized and accredited by the Ministry of Public Health. The program trains nursing assistants with community level and maternal and child specialty, to be agents of basic and preventive health education, trained for primary curative care in rural areas.
Health Volunteers We train volunteer healthcare advocates in rural and peri-urban communities in the west of the country. This program lasts 10 months and is focused on training graduates to provide first aid care, training, counseling, and timely referral in primary health areas, allowing them to be able to access the health services of their community.
Medical Clinics These basic health care centers, located in convergent cities, provide care, especially to women and children, through general consultation services, pediatric consultations, prenatal check-ups, and general medical followups. Medical conferences are also organized in rural communities in the area of influence.
Nutritional Recovery The goal of this initiative is to identify, care for, and provide follow-up to vulnerable people who are at risk due to their nutritional situation. There are two strategies: A) María Project, contributes to the nutritional health of pregnant mothers, influencing the intrauterine formation and growth phase; B) Sebastiana Project, which serves children between 6 months to 5 years of age who suffer from malnutrition.
