Who we are We are a private, apolitical, and nonprofit foundation with legal status, constituted in Guatemala on September 22, 1981 as the Foundation for the Integral Development of Socioeconomic Programs -FUNDAP- with the purpose of promoting activities to support people and communities of scarce economic resources.
What we do Promote the development of the lower income sectors of the Republic of Guatemala, especially the inhabitants of the rural areas of the central highlands, north and south west of the country, through innovative projects that, avoiding paternalism, guarantee an improvement consisting of the quality of life. Under a framework of sustainable development, we seek to eradicate poverty in Guatemala through strategies based on values of equity, honesty, freedom, excellence, respect for dignity, and democracy. Our initiative is based on the slogan “Development with Dignity”, which encompasses respect for the human person, their culture, and traditions.
How we work Through its strategic “avenues” that materialize this mission and fulfill the objectives: » Promotes education and professional training. » Strengthens the promotion and values of people (both men and women) in all sectors. » Seeks the decentralization of the country. » Generates and strengthens employment, improving the family economy. » Strengthens civil society and democracy.
Where we work FUNDAP, has its area of action in the regions of the central highlands, north and south west of the country of Guatemala that present the highest levels of poverty and extreme poverty and that make up groups that have been excluded from the economic and social development. The territory served covers an area of 34,374 km2, representing 31.57% of the national territory and equivalent to 47% of the total population of the country.
Development with dignity —
The FUNDAP programs
Education Program Helps the underprivileged population, especially children, young people, and women, to have access to training programs for their integral development, working with key actors and community leaders so that from their organization, management, and leadership they can promote educational actions for their population.
Handicraft Program Seeks to strengthen the productive and business capacity of the artisanal and organized manufacturing sector that has a low level of competitiveness; through the formulation, negotiation, and execution of productive economic development projects and links to support opportunities, respecting the dignity of the people.
Healthcare Program Generates a culture for the prevention of diseases and self-care, as basic elements for human development. This program focuses its actions on the prevention of diseases and the generation of basic conditions that allow individuals and families to access new levels of development.
Microcredit Program Provides credit, training, and advice to owners of microenterprises, offering them an alternative of economic and personal growth. To meet diverse financing needs, working capital is provided through 4 lines of credit: Microenterprise, Infrastructure, Agricultural, and Community Banks.
Agricultural Program
Environmental Program
Through innovative agricultural projects, this program provides training, technical assistance, agricultural technology transfer, use of alternative technologies, promotion of agroindustry with an agroecological, business approach and adaptation to climate change, in order to contribute to the reduction of poverty.
Contributes to reducing poverty and environmental vulnerability in rural communities of Guatemala, through the sustainable management of its renewable natural resources, which also supports the process of presenting areas so that they are included in the different incentive programs of the country.
