The event was compered by the wonderful Daphne Skinnard from BBC Radio Cornwall, who brought her charm and wit to the stage. As the winners were announced across eight categories, the room was filled with anticipation and applause. This year, the prestigious title of “Cornwall’s Farmer of the Year 2023,” sponsored by Stephens Scown Solicitors, was awarded to the Richards family of J H Richards & Sons (Richards of Cornwall Farm Shop). A heartfelt congratulations to the entire team, both front of house and behind the scenes. This award is a testament to their hard work and unwavering commitment to their business.
One of the highlights of the evening was the auction, expertly hosted by Bridget Whell, the NFU Cornwall Chair. With her infectious energy and quick wit, Bridget helped raise over £2,000 through the auction, with a total of over £5,000 raised for the farming charity. This incredible amount of money will directly support British farmers in need, such as Sarah and James Hoskings, who received housing assistance after James fell ill with sepsis. It’s heartwarming to see the farming community come together to support one another in times of need.
