BACK IN THE DAYS.
Imagine sometime in the 80s, Como, a group of young guys with a huge passion for extreme sports, a lab, a stereo, and a music cassette full of funky tracks. With the stereo blasting awesome tunes, these guys would design, experiment, and build snowboards of all kinds, signing them with a primitive head and the writing FUNKY. This scenario represents the first chapter of a long history of pioneering in the world of snowboard, skateboard, windsurf and surf. The first snowboard ever built by Lucio Longoni (Godfather of Funky) was named Preistoria (prehistory), a board measuring 120cm in height, made entirely of wood with a slight turned up nose, and an engraving representing the name of the model. Since that day Funky began an intense technological study which landed its boards on some of the most prestigious podiums in the industry. In just a few years Funky became one of the leading brands in Europe, as well as having clients in the rest of the world, however it wasn’t long before the golden years came to an end. During the production of a big order destined to the USA, a flood destroyed most of the machinery and diminished half the completed boards to nothing more than a big pile of soaked wood. Funky was extinguished nearly as quickly as it had reached greatness, and that lab filled with passion and ideas was sadly forced to close down. But it wasn’t long before those great ideas arose from the ashes…

PHILOSOPHY.
After 15 years we decided to bring back to life a brand filled with heritage and re-launch it in a way in which is stays true to its original spirit and philosophy. Friendship, innovation and passion are all fundamental elements of the Funky spirit and DNA, making it unique in its kind. As Funky did 25 years ago, today we offer a highly technologically advanced product, without forgetting one of the most important aspects of the sport‌ fun. Funky snowboards originate from a project which focuses on blending hand craftsmanship with the most advanced technology which this sector has to offer. No detail is seen as anything short of a key element: from the selection of materials and components, to the constant update in applied technologies, right up to the actual production of the board itself. Every one of our boards is tested and developed in close collaboration with our athletes. Experience and technology become one and create a product which make our snowboards unique in their kind.

Spray is Funky’s 100% jibbing board. Extremely light, agile, soft, fun… this is the perfect board for everyone who loves creative riding. One of the key aspects of this board is its flex. Focusing on the thickness of the core we have located the point of maximum flex in the central 20cm of the board, radically incrementing the area of support during presses. With this technology the rider will obtain substantially more balance whilst in imbalanced positions towards nose and tail. Pressing has never been this easy! In recent years Onefoot tricks have never been so popular amongst the most creative riders, and it’s because of this that we have decided to use the topsheet H20, a coarse material which covers the entire area of the board thus boosting the grip between your boot and the board. Forget excessive weight! Spray does not need the usual pad between the bindings in order to keep your loose foot firmly gripped to the board. For the 14/15 season we decided to add 3 new models to our collection… one of them being gun. Gun is Agronaut’s little sister. With a Micro Camber and intermediate flex, this board adapts perfectly to all those riders looking for the perfect board to help then quickly improve in the park and on the slopes. This board was developed in collaboration with Sebastian Springeth, who is part of Funky’s Young Blood team. Sebi wanted a board which is agile, versatile, reactive, quick in hopping from one edge to the other, multipurposed, and able to optimize the rider’s skills… and so gun was born. Wood core, sintered base isospeed 7500, strengthened tips in kevlar and h20 topsheet make this the perfect board for all the riders which above all else, wish to improve. pag.21

The camber is tradition, and tradition must never be forgotten. Agronaut is the perfect board for all those who above all else, want to jump! This board has been tested on the steepest slopes, the biggest kickers and the iciest pipes. Fast, precise, & highly reactive, Agronaut was Nicolino Dioli’s board of choice used to nail the first ever triple cork in Italy! The Polar & Beech wood core substantially increments the pop, making this board highly reactive, while the vulcan snake antshock (a unique rubber inserted between the core and the top sheet) stabilizes the board by diminishing the vibrations. One of the most common problems with boards used for big kickers is the fracture caused by the strain applied to the nose and tail. In order to strengthen these areas, we have applied carbon steel patches apt to redistribute the strain onto a larger surface, thus minimizing the risk of fracture.
