History on Display

History is BIG in South-central Oklahoma and if you love history, you better pack a bag; you’ll need to stay a while to see all of the great museums in the area. A total of eight museums are featured in the Fun Times Magazine You will find the usual and the very unusual. Plan ahead because they are all worth a visit.

Information on admission (if any), hours, and addresses will all be found on pages 20-23. We’ll give you a list here to get you started and a few high points of each; full exploration will be up to you.

ARDMORE

Greater Southwest Historical Museum – Pioneer days, early electric car, 1892 cabin, agricultural history.

Military Memorial Museum –War with Mexico thru Persian Gulf War, rare uniforms, weaponry, Fallen Soldier tribute.

WILSON (17 miles west of Ardmore) Wilson Historical Museum –Railroad and oil industry, Chuck Norris, area businesses, scavenger hunt.

DAVIS

Davis Historical Museum –Printing press, Native American culture, area geological formations, Fort Arbuckle model, African American Paratrooper, Territorial Room.

Local

Forgotten Wheels Museum –Vintage motorcycles, cars, trucks –wheels of every kind, military display, complete Hummer collection.

SULPHUR

Sulphur Historical Museum –Jail cell photo op, Platt Nat’l Park & city history, Indian Territory era, antique switchboard.

PAULS VALLEY

Toy & Action Figure Museum –over 13,000 action/pop culture figures, one of the largest collections in the world, famous cartoonist display.

Santa Fe Museum – Steam locomotive, vintage red caboose, pioneer days, school memorabilia, historical pictures.
