Nestled in a narrow but long valley, Tuzla is embraced by the slopes of Majevica at an altitude of 239 metres. Many sources of salt water determined the fate of this city. In the beginning, it was a soybean settlement from the Neolithic, and through prehistoric and historic times there was life here, making Tuzla one of the oldest settlements in Europe with a continuity of living.

PANNONIAN LAKES

Tuzla is the only city in Europe with salt lakes and the only city in the world that has salt lakes, swimming spots and beaches in its centre. The lakes are rich in mineral salt water, which is pumped from underground by salt wells. The salinity of lake water corresponds to sea water which means that it contains 30-40 grams of salt per litre. In addition to the pleasure of bathing in water, this water also has healing properties, especially in the treatment of infertility, rheumatic and respiratory diseases. The complex features beaches as well as designated areas for the children and fitness space. In winter, people spend time at the Pannonica Ice

Rink. The complex also has an Archaeological Park—a Neolithic Stilt House Settlement and a Geological Museum. If you would like to sail into the past for a moment to feel how people used to live or discover something more about the cultural values and tradition of the people who live in Tuzla and the rest of northeastern Bosnia, we recommend a visit to the Muzej Istočne Bosne Tuzle (Museum of Eastern Bosnia Tuzla). In addition, we recommend that you also visit the Muzej Soli (Museum of Salt), which is located within the company Solana Tuzla. It is also worth seeing the Međunarodna Galerija Portreta Tuzla (International Gallery of Portraits Tuzla), the Međunarodni Atelje (International Atelier) Ismet Mujezinović, as well as the Dom Književnosti (House of Literature).

THE EASIEST WAY FOR YOU TO SEE TUZLA AND ITS ATTRACTIONS IS TO GO FOR A RIDE ON THE TOURIST TRAIN WHICH TAKES PASSENGERS ON A TOUR AROUND THE CITY PARK FEATURING THE MONUMENT TO THE FIRST BOSNIAN KING TVRTKO I KOTROMANIĆ IN ITS VERY CENTRE, THE PANNONIAN LAKES AND ALL IMPORTANT SIGHTS IN THE CITY OF TUZLA.

IMPORTANT MONUMENTS

If you are wondering which important monument you should stand and be photographed next to preserve your memories of Tuzla, we suggest heading towards the City Park (Gradski park). In the centre of the park there is a monument to the first Bosnian king Tvrtko I Kotromanić. Apart from that, you must pose next to the monument dedicated to the great figures of Tuzla’s past, Ismet Mujezinović and Meša Selimović, which are located on the Tuzla promenade (Korzo).

ATTRACTIVE CITY SQUARES

If you head out for an evening walk around Tuzla, you will notice the youth that gather at the Freedom Square (Trg slobode), the largest square in B&H, where along with the music from nearby cafes, it is lively until the morning hours. Freedom Square is a place with cultural and historical monuments dating back to practically each period in history. With a cup of coffee, tasty sweets and the burble of the fountain, you will have a great time here. The tourist offer of the city was improved with the renovation of the Salt Square (Solni trg). Dozens of narrow, granite-paved streets, which are always brimming with life and youth, are dotted around these two squares.
