Working from Home: How to Limit Distractions

Working from home requires the worker to design their workspace with efficiency and productivity in mind, as a badly designed workspace can have a negative effect on their output. It is important to position your desk so the TV is not in your line of sight, keep the room tidy, and ensure that any music is not too loud or distracting.

When working from home there are many distractions, and it is far easier to procrastinate than work with a determined and motivated mindset. Many workers now have to balance their work schedule with their personal life, whether it involves childcare, the school run, or doing housework.

Many workers find it useful to put their phone on airplane mode, which deters them from constantly checking for messages and updates throughout the workday.

In order to avoid procrastination, it is important to establish a clean and organised workspace, as well as removing all potential distractions. Some of the most common distractions during the workday include cooking and preparing food; doing the laundry; online shopping; cleaning the house; watching TV; exercising; and talking on the phone.
