How acoustics work? Acoustics is all about sound and in this instance regarding ofice interiors. Sounds that are produced deteriorate from the point they leave the source. The decay period has to be as short as possible. To understand the principle of acoustics, we have created a small example below: 1. If you stand in a room and shout, the sound will leave your mouth, travel through the air and bounce off the hard wall. If you then create a second noise, before the irst noise has had time to die down, the irst and second sounds will conlict on top of each other. This creates what we all know as a loud, noisy ofice. 2. If you were to install acoustic panels in the room and repeat the process, you would notice the sound hits the wall but only a small percentage of the sound is bounced back into the room. The relected sound is reduced, as is the time taken for the sound to die down. So when you create the second sound the irst sound has disappeared and no sound conlicts are created, reducing the overall noise levels within the ofice.

Concentration and productivity is boosted. Although not visible to the eye, sound is a key element in the ofice. However, due to its non-physical nature it is often overlooked. If you had a leaky roof and a wet carpet you would ix the leak immediately to prevent further damage. Sound can be just as damaging as a leak, however the results are not physical or visual to the eye therefore get pushed aside or dismissed. If you dismiss acoustic distraction, your workforce will have reduced productivity and a higher distraction rate which all lead to an impact on the business performance and proits. You wouldn’t ignore a wet carpet so don’t ignore your loud ofice environment.
