What’s the timeline / process of you receiving a job through to completion look like?
Are all-white, handle-less kitchens a thing of the past? What coloured cabinetry is here to stay?
As I work for a residential builder the wider process of sign up, design, construction and handover typically takes 6-12 months. I am a small cog in a very large machine! In relation to my particular job, once a new job hits my desk, my timeline is typically a few weeks. During this time I research my client’s needs and put ideas together, meet with them for a full day to select all fixtures and finishes for their new home and afterward document all items required and source custom items if needed. During this time I am also their main point of contact for anything design related. - Janelle
I think there is still a time and place for handle less kitchens. Some people prefer the clean lines. For me, I love the charm a handle brings. It adds character. - Kate
This really depends on the scope of a project. It can range anywhere from a week to a few months. The most imperative thing for me is that I keep my clients informed on the process. - Kate
White never goes out of fashion! As for what coloured cabinetry is here to stay? Timber cabinetry will be around forever albeit in many different forms as the trends change. Navy blues I think will be a Hamptons design staple for a very long time. - Janelle There will always be areas where white handle less kitchens suit the clients well, however with the handle range being so much broader than it was a couple of years ago, There has been a big shift away from entirely handless Kitchens. Neutral earthy tones as well as contrasting black, white, timber and textures are here to stay. - Danny

“Cabinet lighting comes into most areas now to enhance the design aesthetic How much importance does cabinet lighting warrant within your designs? Has the advancements in LED lighting changed your views on how lighting can be used? Absolutely. I really never design any cabinetry without it. It just elevates the space. Also, the soft lighting is so beautiful at night. - Kate
Cabinet lighting comes into most areas now to enhance the design aesthetic and practicality. We often utilize them in walk in robes, bar areas and wine cellars / displays now, not just as the Image courtesy of Kate Vale Design + Consulting

Would you base your overall design / styling around a specific kitchen handle or are handles an afterthought? Generally the handles tend to be selected toward the end of the design but luckily with Furnware there are so many beautiful products to choose from, that I can always find something to complement the overall design. In saying that, on a couple of occasions the handles have been the starting point and directed the overall design. - Janelle
Handles are like the jewelery on the cabinets, and they need to work with the overall look so they
“Handles are like the jewelery on the cabinets” What are some Momo Handle ranges you’re loving at the moment? The Vann, Nick and Sirolos are favourites. The Otto and New Hampton offers a new take on the traditional cup style. Also can’t wait to use the Barrington and Lumi Ranges. - Danny
are very important to get right. High end kitchens often mean “splurging” on handles! - Bek In terms of handles, do you specify these? Down to the finish, size, style? Yes! Its all very important! The wrong size bar handle can look so out of place on a drawer or cupboard, and the finish/ shape can easily change the style of a kitchen in one easy selection! - Bek
My favourites for current trends is the Loreto, Otto and the Barrington! - Bek LOVE the Graf series, it’s my new favourite! Button has been a life saver on a few Hamptons jobs. Ferrara Lip Pulls are my go-to product for a more streamlined look. - Janelle I’m quite taken by the Emma, Montrose, Crosby, Barrington & Lumi ranges! - Kate

Do you just advise on styles / certain looks and how to achieve this or take control of the styling right down to the products bought? I advise and guide my clients on the selection of every colour, fixture and finish for their new home. This helps to achieve a cohesive look for the entire project. - Janelle
It depends on the type of client, some want to be heavily involved and others want the whole thing taken care of! I will work out what the clients style is before coaching them down the right path to achieve that style at the very end of the project.
“We love interiors and like to mix practicality and organisation” Besides Passion, what motivates YOU as a designer? I just love being able to see a clients vision before they can see it themselves, and helping them work towards the finished product as a team. As much as I have the knowledge and ability to pull it all together, its a very lovely thing to see the joy on their face at the end when they realise that this is their new home and its exactly what they had hoped for. - Bek
- Bek I like to take control of this whole process. That’s why I’m hired, right? I will select every item through to candles and table accessories. I also means I get to support a lot of small business whom create beautiful and quality products. Every item is scheduled with all information being sent to the client. Mostly I purchase on their behalf. Anything I can do to make the process easier for them. - Kate We collaborate with clients who know exactly what they want, as well as those who would like to be guided from our experience. We love interiors and like to mix practicality and organisation, with a bespoke aesthetic that suits the client’s taste. So we are often involved in every aspect right down to minor details. - Danny
I want people to feel joy, and enjoy the little things and moments. I truly believe a beautiful external environment helps to create and nurture a beautiful internal one. I want people to love the space they’re in and then be able to bring their best to the world. - Kate Chasing the satisfaction in creating environments for our clients that exceed their vision and expectation. - Danny Residential design is so personal to our clients and being on that journey with them is really special. I’m also a delayed gratification kind of person, so seeing a project through from start to finish is pretty satisfying! - Janelle
