STUDENT PRESIDENT

Syreet Kaur Thind

My name is Syreet, I am a first year Law Honours Student at Flinders University Since high school I have participated in numerous leadership roles, particularly in year 12 where I was the first SRC and Prefect of my school. Additionally, I held the title of an International Ambassador. Conducting such roles was prideful for me as through persistence I was able to make a 'change for the better' within the community

The biggest alteration I made as a prefect in High School was installing sanitary stations in all females bathrooms throughout the school building(s) The process was lengthy and required a lot of persistence as, I had to discover the potential provider, derive how much the government provided for female sanitation and collaborate with staff and students to install the stations However, the end result was worth it and I would happily do it again as it made life easier for uncountable students I am willing to put in the same amount of time and effort to initiate such a change in the Flinders community if I am granted a change

STUDENT PRESIDENT Nathaniel Winter

Some of the work I've done includes organising an International Student's Job Fair, bringing more funding for free period products, connecting FUSA with regional students, and bridging the gap between FUSA and clubs.

But the work doesn't stop there. We still have so much more to bring to the table That's why we need your help to keep making university life the best it can be

We’re FIRED-UP, but we need your help to spark the progressive change for Flinders University

In my course, I have encountered so many topics of mental health and student development. As an international student, studying at Flinders there are a lot of things I have come across While volunteering at Oasis, I came across various kinds of people and their experiences, which made me realize there are a lot of new challenges they face, some of which I have faced as well One of my strength is that I am very adaptable and a people's person As a first-year student, I bring new perspectives and developmental strategies I am very much interested in expanding various ways to improve mental well-being among students especially the new ones through various programs and digital platforms such as social media

Postgraduate Students Officer

Quoc Tuan Nguyen

As a dedicated postgraduate student, I am excited to nominate myself for the Postgraduate Students Officer position While I may not have previous experience in this role, my journey through both coursework and research has given me a unique perspective on the challenges we face.

Postgraduate study is a different world from undergraduate life We juggle research deadlines, teaching responsibilities, and often, professional careers We're not just students; we're emerging experts, future academics, and industry innovators Yet, our specific needs often go unaddressed I aim to change that

If elected, I commit to:

1 Advocate for increased research funding and improved access to resources, recognizing that our work contributes significantly to the university's reputation

2 Push for more flexible study options that accommodate our diverse responsibilities, including part-time and remote study opportunities

3 Advocate for the establishment of a mentorship program connecting postgraduates with industry professionals and academics, enhancing our career prospects

4 Campaign for improved mental health services tailored to the unique pressures of postgraduate life, including research stress and imposter syndrome.

5. Create a robust postgraduate community through regular cross-disciplinary events and workshops.

My fresh perspective is my strength I'm not constrained by past approaches but driven by a vision of what postgraduate life could be I bring energy, innovation, and a deep understanding of our day-to-day challenges

I'm prepared for the time commitment this role demands My experience juggling research, coursework, and personal responsibilities has honed my time management skills, preparing me for this position

By choosing me, you're voting for a voice that truly understands and will tirelessly advocate for the postgraduate experience Together, we can elevate postgraduate education at our university to new heights

Postgrad s Officer

Shubham

Nanda

Currently, I am a FUSWA secretary, MSW Course Representative and CEPSW College Progress Committee member I am well committed towards advocating for students' rights and is presently involved in the projects for the same for social work students by utilising my roles as a FUSWA Secretary and MSW Course Representative.

Being a postgraduate student myself, I recognise the intricacies and hurdles faced by postgraduate students alone Making sure that the university recognises all these challenges and responds to them in a best way and a student-centred approach is my primary focus Especially, life journey of postgraduate students are vastly different from one another which adds up to another complexity However, smaller things like this must be recognised by the university in order to deliver best services and education the student cohort A very general example that I observed recently and am currently working on with my colleagues It is that in our semester, we were not provided of any live lectures - neither online nor offline All we have is prerecorded in all semester topics This is not a studentcentred decision-making This does not provide students any autonomy and flexibility to pick what they prefer

This gives students no opportunity to ask questions in-person because tutorials are short with different objectives And there are many bigger issues too which remain unaddressed affecting postgraduate students. I believe that "change is not impossible, it just takes time and strategical actions to act upon it."

I hope to work more and in a better way by being a FUSA member now to be able to make use of support services and resources available for students effectively I am already feeling excited to be a part of FUSA student council and start working collaboratively with students for their good

I’m very proud of everyone who’s still managing to hold it all-together Believe me, I’ve been there

When I started my postgrad, I had panic attacks three times because of all the pressure Sometimes, we try to manage everything, but the anxiety and stress still creep in

We want to reach-out for help, but with everything in our plate, we just don’t have the time

That’s why I’m running for this position. As a postgrad-student myself, I want to be the bridge between FUSA and postgrad-students to bring more focus on wellbeing, academic-support, and careeropportunities

I know some of you might not even know what’s FUSA and what they offer for post-grad students I want to change that by advocating for programs such as online wellbeing-support, 1 to 1-academic support and job-shop events that can open doors for you

Being an international student myself, I recognise the unique complexities and challenges faced by international students alone Making sure that the university recognises all these challenges and responds to them in a best way and a studentcentred approach is my primary focus A very general example where international students are generally not considered is the design of topic content For instance, I have noticed many times so far that audio visual learning materials lack transcripts Consequently, some international students are unable to get the most out of the learning resources as they anticipated But there are other bigger issues too like culturally sensitive classrooms, etc which remain unaddressed affecting international students

I believe that "change is not impossible, it just takes time and strategical actions to act upon it "

International Students Officer

Vanshika Bhaskar

Being an international student is a challenging journey, with unique dynamics and processes that can drain an individual’s mental, emotional, and physical energy We are constantly juggling being away from home, adjusting to a new culture, staying up-to-date with rules and regulations, and dealing with additional financial and social stressors Amid all these pressures, feelings of isolation and loneliness remain constant struggles, making it difficult to transition smoothly into university life

By nominating myself for the position of International Students Officer, my priority will be to become one of the most accessible points of contact for international students I also aim to instil a sense of cultural humility across campus and provide a platform for international students to receive guidance on their academic and financial needs

Although there are abundant resources available to international students, I have noticed that many lack the guidance and knowledge on how to access and utilize them effectively I am committed to making these resources more accessible and ensuring that the voices of international students are heard and acted upon

My primary motivation for seeking this role started with a simple question: “What are you doing about it?” From this, I aspire to be a voice of change and reason for all international students, ensuring that they feel supported and empowered throughout their time at university

Thank you for considering me for the role of International Students Officer I look forward to the opportunity to serve and advocate for the international student community

Let me be your voice in the student union to make sure all our concerns, will be effectively represented I am committed to a more inclusive campus, where events celebrating our diversity and building meaningful interactions between international and local students have become common

I have had many opportunities to participate in many teamwork activities and student clubs that gained my skills in communication and ability to contributee to group works From my point of view, student services such as mental health support, and extracurricular activities are essential for students improvement and development and these aspects are what I would like to promote if elected as International Students Officer.

"We must learn to live together as brothers and sisters or perish together as fools " Martin Luther King Jr

This quote has always inspired me to reflect on the true meaning of inclusion and diversity. As an international student and a woman of colour studying in Australia, I have realized the profound impact that a strong sense of community and belonging has on one's social and societal well-being This realization happened through my involvement in volunteering roles such as an international student mentor and Student Well-being Ambassador, I have had the privilege to connect with fellow students of colour and international students After my experiences, I found myself thinking that after all this time, many of us still continue to search for a space that truly reflects and represents our diverse experiences

The transition into university life in a foreign land, particularly for people of colour, is often marked by uncertainty, cultural misunderstandings, and isolation factors that have been normalized. But these challenges should not be accepted as the norm. I am running for the position of People of Colour Officer to address these issues by fostering a strong sense of community where students know they belong and can express their voices and opinions freely, without judgment

My focus will be on amplifying diverse voices in decision-making processes, balancing the creation of niche cultural communities with cross-cultural collaboration, and, most importantly, building a pathway where every student can experience the enriching university life we all envision

I hope to work more and in a better way by being a FUSA member now to be able to make use of support services and resources available for students effectively I am already feeling excited to be a part of FUSA student council and start working collaboratively with students for their good

General Council Member Mohamed Halai

I’m Mohamed, and I’m running to be your General Council Member Why? Because, like most of us, I’ve spent a lot of time balancing work, study, tutoring, and trying to remember what having a social life feels like – and I’ve mastered the art of juggling (well, metaphorically I’m still working on actual juggling)

Time management? Check I’ve had practice fitting everything into my schedule, including helping students as a tutor and working in retail – all while keeping my sanity intact (mostly) I’m confident I can contribute to the Student Council without losing track of my other commitments or, more importantly, my minimal sense of humor

What can you expect from me as a General Council Member? Well, I’m all about teamwork and supporting others Whether it’s helping the Council run smoothly, representing student voices in committees, or pushing for projects that bring positive change, I’m ready to step up I’m also really passionate about making our university more inclusive and sustainable – because who doesn’t love a bit of positivity and progress?

At the end of the day, I want to be that friendly, approachable person you can count on to get things done So, vote for me, and let’s make student life a little brighter (and more balanced) together!

General Council Member

I also have specific ideas for projects that I believe could benefit our student body I am eager to contribute to the initiatives that address student concerns and enhance campus life I understand that this role requires a significant commitment in terms of time and energy, and I am prepared to balance this responsibility with my other commitments, including my studies, work, and social activities My experience in managing multiple responsibilities and my dedication to student advocacy make me confident in my ability to fulfil the role effectively

My name is Caitlyn Williams, and I am running to join your next FUSA General Council with the Activate team! I’m currently studying a double bachelor's in computer and engineering sciences

AHey Flinders, I am Amy Eastham and I am running for General Council with Activate! I am currently a 3rd year student studying a Bachelor of Arts and have been legally blind my entire life

While at University, I have found many spaces inaccessible for people with a disability, which creates barriers for learning opportunities and pushes people away from their studies My goal as a General Council is to give a voice to people who are often overlooked by the university due to their disability If I was elected, I would take the time to listen and consult with the disabled and neurodiverse communities to ensure they are fully represented by their elected council

As a legally blind person on the autism spectrum, I understand the broad and intersectional issues that both people with visible and invisible disabilities face I have always had a passion for advocating for my community at flinders, often raising issues regarding accessibility when I encounter them and making a point of holding the university to account These personal attributes will help me to raise your voice within the university

If elected, my mission will be to ensure accessibility needs are better addressed by the university I will advocate for the University to improve infrastructure that assists disabled students to navigate the campuses and to improve resources provided by the university that often create barriers [MH1] I’m running with activate because I have seen how progressive, proven and accountable we are and believe I can continue that legacy

Serving on the General Council would allow me to advocate for students, support key initiatives, and ensure that the council remains accountable and responsive to the student body My commitment to learning, collaboration, and community engagement drives me to continuously strive for improvement I am passionate about contributing to a vibrant and inclusive campus environment where all students feel supported and heard

Even though international students contribute significantly to the broader Australian economy, most of their difficulties and challenges are tinkered on the edges I am nominating myself for candidacy as these issues have a direct impact on the student's overall experience and hinder them from achieving their full potential
