History 1968-2022 Kappa League Mentorship Excellence Since 1968, the Los Angeles Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. sponsored a program known as “Kappa Instructional Leadership League” (Kappa League). Kappa League is a program for the educational, occupational, and social guidance of male high school level students. The Kappa League began at Alain Leroy Locke High School in Los Angeles and has grown nationwide across all of Kappa Alpha Psi. It is designed to help young men grow and develop their leadership skills in every phase of human endeavor. Through club-oriented activities, the membership undertook challenges and rewarding experiences which lead to the achievement of worthy academic, professional and vocational goals. Additionally, the Kappa League assisted in the development of outstanding social skills. The nucleus and primary focus of Kappa League revolves around the “Seven Phases” which are: 1. Self/Identity and Purpose 2. Training 3. Competition 4. Social 5. Health Education 6. Economic Empowerment & Education 7. College & Career

Welcome On behalf of the San Fernando & Santa Clarita Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Fraternity Inc. we welcome you to the 6th Annual Kappa League Culmination. This is a celebration of our Kappa Leaguers of whom we are extremely proud, especially our graduating seniors. Our Kappa Leaguers have worked tirelessly to stay connected to our Mentorship Program throughout this Coronavirus Pandemic. For the safety and welfare of everyone, our last two Culminations as well as all of our meetings for the past two years have been virtual. These young men have continuously exhibited a strong commitment to the Kappa League Organization, and we appreciate their time and loyalty. It is an honor and a privilege for us to have even a small hand in the tutelage of the young men as they transcend from Boyz II Men. It would be remiss of us if we didn’t thank the parents for trusting us to mentor their sons. We take this responsibility very seriously. Whether it’s a virtual or in personal activity, you have also sacrificed your time and we thank you. Now please sit back and relax as we celebrate our 2022 Kappa Leaguers! Sincerely, Brother Darryl Sims & Brother Billy Johnson Jr. Guide Right/Kappa League Co- Directors

Marcus Terrell Smith San Fernando, Santa Clarita Alumni Kappa Alpha Psi Marcus Terrell Smith graduated from the University of Arizona, where he received a BA in Linguistics and a BFA in Musical Theatre. The following year he was accepted into the Actors Studio Drama School (ASDS) at Pace University in New York City, where he received an MFA in Acting. During his time in New York, he performed in several Off-Broadway productions, then joined the national tour of Broadway’s The Book Of Mormon. After a three-year run with this phenomenal show, he moved to Los Angeles, where he diversified his talents as an actor in TV and film (NCIS: Los Angeles, Marlon, Brooklyn 99, Grey’s Anatomy, Netflix’s Little Evil, and many others). He has enjoyed opportunities to star in several theater productions, his latest as Coalhouse Walker Jr. in Serenbe Playhouse’s production of Ragtime (Atlanta, GA). Most of all, Smith is a world-builder and storyteller with an imagination that has compelled him to explore many genres and formats. He has written two Broadwaystyle musicals that he is both directing and producing entitled Accidental Joy: A New Musical and Pup! A Chew Story: A New Musical. Both have enjoyed rapturous audience responses in early previews. In addition, Smith has written several TV pilots and is currently represented by Creative Artists Agency

Speaker

Austyn D. Lee Gamma Iota Arizona State University Austyn Lee is from Santa Clarita Valley, California which is where he attended pre-school to 7th grade. After the 7th grade, he transitioned to the San Fernando Valley where he attended Chaminade and Heritage Christian School. Austyn was a student-athlete throughout high school who did his best to stand out in and outside of the classroom. In High School, he joined the first class of the SFSCV Kappa League in 2017 and became our first president in 2018. Austyn graduated high school with a 4.0 cumulative GPA at the top of his class and earned multiple academic scholarship offers. Austyn chose to become a Sun Devil and attend the W.P Carey School of Business at Arizona State University in the Fall of 2018. Austyn set a goal since the beginning of his college career to maximize his academic, professional, and social college experience. Some of his accomplishments and leadership positions throughout his college career include:

-

Serving as the Grand Board of Directors UG representative 34th admin President of the Black Business Student Association at ASU for two years Vice Pole march of the Gamma Iota Chapter 2020 Hillary H. Holloway Scholar ASU Dean’s List all four years Served as a Business Student Council member for the W.P Carey School of Business at Arizona State for two years

- Served on the W.P Carey School of Business DEI sub-committee - Served as the Chairman for the 2022 Black Professional Conference at Arizona State University

As these are just some of the achievements Austyn has, it is safe to say Austyn has maximized his college experience. Austyn has just graduated from Arizona State University two weeks ago with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and the second-highest honors Magna Cum Laude. He will be starting his full-time position with PepsiCo in Phoenix, Az as a Sales Management Associate. One of his lifetime goals has been to positively impact his surroundings, the black youth, and others at every step of his journey in life.

Youth of a Nation We are the youth of a nation When we speak you seem not to listen When we act you seem not to understand That we are the product of an environment that makes us question many acts of man We are involved in a program designed to develop our leadership ability, and raise our aspirational level. And yet we encounter some of the leaders today with wonder and mixed emotions. We are the youth of the nation, today. We shall be the leaders of the world tomorrow. Shall we learn what a leader is and stay from its mistakes when appointed? Shall we dwell on that a leader does and demonstrate yet another? We are the youth of the nation today, We shall ease the stigma associated with men processing good leadership characteristics. For we need not play dirty to win the role, nor to gain favor shall we lose our soul. We are the youth of the nation today. Watch our results and rest confident of your leaders tomorrow.
