On this month's cover:

NOTE-FROM-THE-PUBLISHER 12

Welcome to our MEN'S issue! Like a lot of women I have a pretty up and down attitude towards you dudes. I love the idea of one of you sweeping me off my feet with sparkling wit, effortless charm and the subtle scent of expensive cologne (think Harvey from Suits), however, on the other hand I think I am one of those women who somehow got infected by the 'only perfection will do' malady. Which funnily enough is a topic our very own Bliss Windlow covers in her article 'Let's Celebrate Men' this issue. There's so much in this issue that we hope will be of interest to the men of Second Life! We cover where you can go and play a proper game of golf (all dudes like golf, right?), motorcycle clubs (huge thanks to Turlaccor Custombikes), where to go to find a better standard of, ahem, adult activities, and lots of juicy fashion stuff for you too! We happen to be welcoming a male of the species to the Fusion team this month! Seth Diabolito is coming on board as our Marketing Director and has already made my job untold times less stressful. I may loosen the handcuffs eventually but I'm pretty certain this one is never being allowed to leave. Like, ever. We also welcome a new writer in the lovely shape of Jude Tatham who will be covering a plethora of material. Take a look at her first Fusion articles this issue! Enjoy this issue of Fusion, as always, it was put together with a great deal of love and care. P.S To my ladies, don't despair, next month will see our very first wedding issue, it's fair to say I'm kinda excited for it. P.P.S 'kinda', who am I kidding?!

let’s celebrate Men

hey are our fathers, our brothers, our lovers, our best friends and, around these parts at least, even our mothers. They are tall and short, buff and not, dark and blonde and serious and not.

They are masters, and partners, dragons and warriors, models and mentors, sexual gods, vampires, robots, cats, dogs, mythical beasts, sports heroes, characters in our role play, the gifted batteries for the giant penis. We love them, we hate them. We would not want a world without them. Even those who have hurt and disappointed us have taught us well. We learn about life, we learn about ourselves. They are sometimes our most important teachers.

14

Second Life gives us all a chance to take the character off the front of the books we read and make them into a reality. If you are lucky you find someone who has his book all mapped and you are intrigued enough by the new story to play. It can be

magic. Sometimes you find someone willing to be the character you want, stepping totally into the role. That is magic too. And sometimes, the whole thing overwrites itself into real life.

15

Magic unleashed. But it is a chance, a chance to find happiness in an arena not yet explored or defined, where maybe the people here are a little more willing to admit they are not as perfect, a little more accepting of imperfect others, a little disillusioned with the world, and a little more willing . . . to take a chance. And maybe the gateway to that is for you to let go of wanting the perfect ideal man and just be open to the man who, like you, is looking for a chance to just be himself, to explore new possibilities, to not have to be quite so perfect, in terms of magazine quality looks. Good men come in all sizes and disguises. Magic happens when we are willing to let go of the rules and are open to the possibilities. Because in all of us there is a master, a dragon, a warrior, a hero. They are qualities, not images. Let go of the images. Choose something real.

⋅ Let’s celebrate the men of Second Life ⋅

F U S I O N June

Perhaps the secret is in meeting the men where they are, in hearing their story, their role play. Perhaps the connection should be a blending instead of limiting them to play a character in our scenario.

j Grab the golf clubs and hit the green! i Aero Golf Club is a fully functional 18-hole golf course with beautifully landscaped surroundings. Kaja Ashland and Mikal Islar have done an unbelievable job on this sim. You need to join the group, get your golf clubs, and you’re off for a great time. Even if you’re not a golfer in RL, you can be the best in SL. Be careful of the sandpits and ponds! The course was created to be fun for the novice, yet challenging for the seasoned player. Around the golf course you will find a club house, practice putting green, and relaxing spots. You can rent a free kayak and paddle around the island as well. The club house also provides an intimate venue for socializing, dancing, and meeting other golfers. If you’re ever looking for something fun to do, this is definitely worth the visit! Come on by and swing away!

eather trousers, studded jackets, head bands, driving gloves, not to mention an array of terrifying tattoos adorning their bodies - it seems the brotherhood of the biker has found its way into Second Life. There is a wealth of bars, clubs, prim/ mesh motorcycle builders and of course stores, stocking clothes and accessories all tailored to the bikers out there.

and I wondered if this was for the men's benefit or their own. But on the flip side, the men like to show themselves off too, wearing sleeveless vests or often topless displaying their sculpted Deltoids and Biceps, emblazoned with skulls, roses, Celtic symbols and other impressive ink, so perhaps this is an all round celebration of flesh.

This week I have been checking out the best biker venues SL has to offer. Intricate prim motorbikes are parked outside bars and worn wooden or leather furniture emphasizes their disinterest in anything fancy or fussy. There are even campfires, tree stumps and outdoor settings, celebrating the bikers love of the open air.

I decided to strike up conversation with a few patrons of one particular bar I frequented, as I wanted to get a man and woman’s perspective of biker-hood and how SL catered for their needs. I was quite surprised by what I heard, which is that generally the SL biker life is a poor imitation to that in RL.

One thing I have noticed is that although women are a welcome sight at any biker bar or club, it does seem to be a man's world. Female flesh is often on display and the few women I spotted were sporting figure enhancing outfits, all in leather or denim, all distinctively biker-esque

Firstly being a biker is about taking to the roads and being free, but riding a bike in SL can get quite boring and due to prim limits there is little divergence between models and styles. For RL bikers the great outdoors is a huge part of who they are, but in SL there is little to no sim roaming,

they mostly prefer to hang-out at bars, But when all is said and done and the talking, dancing or messing around with similarities and differences between friends. reality and virtuality are compared, there is one common factor, something which When I asked about the impression people continually shines through and lifts up have of bikers, being criminals or trouble this way of life making it attractive to all makers and do they feel misunderstood, the brotherhood. Both male and female most said it wasn't an issue in SL and that bikers in SL feel that there is a strong family bikers kept to their own and didn't cause connection between their gang and other trouble. The controversial Gor sims with biker friends. That they look out for each their objectification of women seemed other, support one another and in some more of a talking point and even seemed cases this has even trickled into RL. That to offend some of my leather clad friends, element explains why the biker way of life and not just the females. This surprised me in SL is so popular, that the essence of this and made me think my first impressions world is to connect with people, to find were inaccurate. Saying that though, I am common ground and to be accepted, and surprised that they are offended at all as one guy I spoke to explained, in RL most at times, protected. Bikers and all who support them are a thriving community and with hit TV shows like Sons of Anarchy celebrating this unique band of brothers, these leather wearing, Harley riding gangs are here to stay. â–

F U S I O N June

gangs do not welcome women and prefer the company of men and riding the roads. Although part of a gang, there is also an element of solidarity and that is important for a lot of men. But in stark contrast in SL many bikers are in couples and enjoy hanging out with both males and females.

UNDER CONTROL

PART FOUR

Keeping Your inventory

by Auryn Beorn

Greetings everybody! In the previous article, we went through a lot of information and tips in order to help us when packing our inventory. Then it was mentioned that in this one we would talk about several ideas to delete items that have already been packed. So, let's go for it. The first idea is quite immediate: If you have packed an outfit that contains mesh clothes, and you don't plan on changing your shape often, then keep only your size and delete the rest. In the event you do change your shape, you can always rez the packed object, look for the outfit (here is where having used descriptions, as previously suggested, helps!), and extract a new copy of the size you need now. Continuing with this, we can go a bit further. Many fatpacks contain a box with each color, that we have to unpack one at a time. Those fatpacks will contain a copy of the alpha layers with each color. We don't need to keep a copy of the alpha layer for every color. We can just arrange our fatpack as the next image shows. 36

The same can be said for other items that are often contained in each color of a fatpack: landmarks, notecards, textures with the ad/photo of the product. Keep just one for the whole fatpack and only if you really need it. As for the landmarks, we don't even need one per fatpack copy. We just need one landmark per store.

37

landmarks, for example, using two notecards (e.g., Places to visit and then Stores), and then hit enter to create new lines, and start dragging and dropping landmarks from our inventory to the notecard. We can of course write down

F U S I O N June

Since we're on the topic, did you know that you can embed landmarks into a notecard? Notecards aren't the safest way of storing items, but for landmarks, they are good enough. So we can categorize our

headers to sort our landmarks within the notecard, and finally save it. Once the notecard is saved, we can delete the landmarks from our inventory. As a final step, to begin decreasing the number of items in inventory, we should purge the trash. But before purging trash, make sure there's nothing valuable in there! If you purge trash and remove something by mistake, LL will not be able to recover it for you. This last item is not related to sorting notecards, but it's also worth mentioning: Recently, embedding calling cards into notecards was also enabled. We still cannot store calling cards in boxes (the reason is technical), but we can save them in notecards and remove those we don't need. We'll leave it here for now and continue in the next issue. Well done so far! Enjoy your SL. â–

the D o s W e d i u t h D T o h e D i r t T a survey i h m e?' 'W by Jude Tatham

e all have our reasons to be here, for most it is about making a connection with others, having fun, indulging in fantasies and quite simply, to pass the time. But what are the things that keep us here and for many ensure we return day after day.

To get to know our male readers a little better, this female journalist embarked on a mini mission of her own to find out what our boys like to do in SL . My initial thought was the pursuit of carnal pleasures, but I was actually pleasantly surprised by the diversity of response. I spoke to 50 men, all from different walks of SL life, all of different ages, nationalities and sexuality to see what floats their virtual boats and makes SL their number one place to be. I went to bars, clubs, strip joints, secret sex societies, clothing stores, beaches, live music venues and role-play sims. Most men were open and seemed honest, although a few were afraid we might name them - anonymity being very important for many in SL. As promised I have not named anyone, this is a general sweeping survey and thank you to all those who participated.

40

The results are in!

41

10. Attending favourite DJs sets - 2% 9. Sports - attending SL football matches, NFL and roller derby - 3%

8. Gambling - casino, greedy and horse races - 4% 7. Exploring - new sims, old sims, interesting builds, replica cities - 6% 6. Relationships - spending times with loved ones or looking for Miss/Mr Right - 6% 5. Role-play sim - playing characters, emoting, etc - Gor, urban, medieval - 10% 4. Creating and building - mesh, clothing, buildings - 10% 3. Sex - stripping, escort, casual encounters, bdsm - 15% 2. Live music - 20%

1. Socialising and hanging out with friends - 24%

here does one go for some evening entertainment? That’s simple, to one of the best members-only adult themed lounges on the grid, Elysion. The owner and management team have created a beautifully decorated, dark and sensual place for adults to explore, indulge and simply enjoy each other and the surroundings. Members enjoy full and unlimited access to the sim, including rez rights. An array of events is offered every week to encourage community, social interaction, creativity, and excitement. It’s a plethora of artistic and sensual entertainment! All events are scheduled and posted for an entire month at a time. Information can be found through a schedule notecard in group notices, an event board at the entrance of Elysion, Flickr and Facebook sites. Friday night socials begin at 8pm SLT; it is a come-as-you-are social mixer held in The Luxe Supper Club. Saturday offers a themed Euro party at 12pm SLT and in the evenings; costumes are required for both events held in the Theater Event Room, with the events lasting from 3-5 hours. Sundays are open for monthly and special events which include live singers and RP events. A Burlesque show is held monthly in The Luxe Supper Club, featuring a variety of dancers. Bottom line, there is always an opportunity for something grand at Elysion. The sim itself is gorgeous, and you will need to visit more than once to find all the little spots that are placed perfectly around the area. The ambiance is warm and inviting, as well as sultry and sexy. There’s a certain grace about this place that doesn’t scream out adult lounge, but whispers it with class and style. If you’re looking for a place to explore a little deeper, this is definitely it. Let your imagination run wild and be free, there is nothing lacking at Elysion. ■

Sun, sandy beaches, cocktails, sea...that's a quick list of things that come to mind when you think about summer. Unless you have a sensitive skin like me and you want to add sunburn to that list. Now if you are unable to enjoy any of those things yet (like me), you can always get some "summer-y" eye candy from the various themed events and builds all around SL grid. Look at the bright side...no sunburn!

Sex Work by Bliss Windlow

went undercover in a sex club in SL once. I don't know why you call it undercover because the intent was to be butt naked in the spotlight. Also I was going to write about it for the magazine. Oh, and someone wrote it all over the SL bathrooms. OK that was me, so I am not blaming anyone else; failed shameless self-promotion.

Thank heavens for poles with all the dances programmed, and for super impossibly flexible avatars and sliders that could enhance and morph the body into whatever the customer wanted. I was great. Well, I thought I was great.

Everyone was dancing and awesome and naked with their perfect bodies. Some of them had the same perfect body as me. Damn them all. Even more frustratingly, no matter how many times you stab the other dancers, or where you bury their bodies, in SL, no-one stays dead. So then you create characters but if you choose 'biker hard ass chick' for the evening and the guy sitting at your table is dressed like a sheep, looking for ' Little Bo Peep', well you can't make leather ruffly and you aren't going to get to herd any sheep into any barn with a whip and a cattle prod.

I soon learned that there was much more I thought it was going to be pretty basic involved that just looking awesome stuff. I had my missionary outfit pressed and being naked with a perfect body. and ready. I thought I would do the 70

article and make a shit load of money Tip: Never give male friends money in a and be like shopping by day and leading strip club without peeing a wide circle a secret life by night. around them first to mark your territory. I doubt I will ever recoup the money I spent on costumes. None of them worked. I was good until they came off and then I was not sure how to carry the theme forward. It is hard to be a 'naughty school girl ' when your knee highs and white cotton panties are on the floor, you did the big finale, you are standing there naked and... nothing.

I was invited to attend the wedding a couple of weeks later, my best friend and Sensa SparkleBigTitts, but I was still feeling pretty bitter about the whole thing. The worst part was that my mother in law walked into the room while I was butt naked, spread eagled, looping around the pole. I tried to tell her I was just a pretend whore, and that it was for a magazine article, but she still carries spray sanitizer that she uses on her cat every time I pet her.

If a stripper strips in a strip club and there is no-one there who cares, it is incredibly sad, not to mention financially draining. It’s even worse when Sensa SparkleBigTitts on the next pole has lured the sheep over there and he is ‘baaing’ like an idiot while he claps his hooves. My ego was so shattered by the whole experience that it took a week of standing I ended up having to pay my friends to around in the noob landing point with come in and sit at my table. I gave them the men of the 'I have a 10 ft c**k' club to convince me I still had it. ■ money to put in my tip jar. 72
